I don't know but maybe if turning off pitch confidence does indeed turn it off, then the CPU will mix up pitches more. I think the CPU prefers not to throw pitches with low confidence.Comment

You're right, according to the description, it only visually turns off the meters. I wonder if it makes the CPU blind to pitch confidence so maybe with it off, the CPU will mix up the pitches more.Comment

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
I am really starting to think with confidence off the CPU mixes up its pitches a lot more.
Before with confidence on the CPU was basically throwing me fastballs, if I remember correctly I had 9 straight fastballs in various locations in one at bat.
Since turning confidence off I will get a 2-0 changeup that I will often swing and miss at, as I am thinking pre confidence off that a fastball just to get a strike was coming, which most of the time it was.
Now I am constantly trying to figure out what the CPU will throw.
By the way is anyone still using strictly default sliders anymore?Comment

Playing the same but all sliders default. If I was a little more patient though I'd earn a walk or 2 more. But right now I'm averaging 2 a game.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
I play at All-Star default across the board and find it better than any slider combination I've tested in terms of overall gameplay and balance. One concern was CPU strikes. I learned that I can't trust the in-game numbers to tell if the CPU is strike-happy bc they don't account for the swings I take at pitches that would have been balls. In compiling my own numbers using pen and paper, I learned the CPU was actually throwing a very realistic strike %. I also realized how many walks I was missing out on by swinging...about 2-3 per game, which is reasonable.Comment

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
Me too. I think its a two-pronged thing. 1) Don't pass up walks by swinging at balls, and 2) the total number of walks will increase naturally as I learn to take pitches, bc the pitch count will increase and CPU pitch confidence will decrease. I always tend to be of the belief that the game developers know better what they're doing than I do, and that they probably only include sliders because some people clamor for them. Sometimes I think they're nothing but smoke and mirrors for placebo effects in some titles.Comment

Re: How are people liking the default sliders so far?
I'm really tempted to just go back to All Star default. I am a "no left stick/no guess/auto baserunning/classic pitch" type of player. Basically I'm pretty hands off. Some may think it's boring but it works for me. I do use manual fielding but I'm even considering changing that to auto as I find that the computer probably gets about one hit more than me a game on average simply because their players make spectacular plays that I can never make on manual fielding..but that's a topic for another thread I suppose. Anyway, my main worries about going to total default are:
1. Too many hard hit balls with the solid hits slider being at 5. And I'm not just talking about base hits..I'm talking about rocket grounders to infielders and smoked line drives right at guys in the outfield.
2. Too many wild pitches/passed balls/hit batters with the pitcher consistency being at 5.
3. Too many guys getting thrown out going first to third with no adjustments to fielders arm.
4. Too many guys getting picked off flat footed....just standing there at first as the ball is headed over.
I'm pretty sure 3 and 4 are more engine problems. I've gotten the first to third thing somewhat toned down with sliders. I also lowered CPU pickoffs way down..but I think all that does is make them do it less which feels fake to me.
Most of my settings are default now anyhow, including contact, power, and fouls. I just don't really want to think about it much anymore, so either I'm going back to default soon or I'm just going to stick with what I have now...which isn't bad. I don't know though, there's just something "cozy" about having everything set at default.Comment

My only concern with all-star default is the amount of hits. Are you guys getting some games where both teams combine for 10 or fewer hits?Comment
