Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
I play with the Mariners and just took a series from the Yankees 2-1. Total runs scored for the series was 35-28. There is offense with these sliders, it just comes and goes in spurts like real baseball. I am almost at the All-Star break (I play every game) and I am currently hitting .306 with an ERA of 3.50. So obviously I am going to make some changes to bring down the average, but I play with pitch speed at 0 currently (because I am old and my reflexes are slow). After the All-Star break I am taking it back up to default.

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
some of us are noticing that this yr, in contrast to last, if you set the pitch speed at zero, you swing well ahead of a changeup too often. thus, setting it at 2 or 3 instead of 0 compensates it back, abeit the fast stuff is slightly faster.Comment

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
I played my first three games with pitch speed at 5 (default) and I really liked it, fewer solid hits because you can't just sit and wait fastball like you can with pitch speed at 0. I started a new franchise with the Reds and took the opening series against the Cardinals 2-1. I hit .247 with 6 hr's.Comment

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
I've been using your V2 sliders and so far I've enjoyed them for the hitting side of the game. I have been able to work the count more and have 47 walks through 13 games with 74 strikeouts. I have enjoyed hitting more than I did in V1 where the pitcher had incredible accuracy. The only issue I have is with the pitching. In V1 I thought it was way to easy to pitch with the meter and the ball went exactly where I wanted to a good percentage of the time. With V2, I'm having an incredible tough time with pitching and have given up alot of runs. When I spot the ball where I want it the ball doesn't even come close to going where I want it resulting in lots of meatballs. I just want to find a median where I hit my spots realistically. Could it just be the team I'm pitching with (Rangers)? Could I be on one of those streaks where nothing goes right? I noticed that you tweaked the user pitching control and consistency down one notch each. If this continues, what do you suggest I add +1 to, user control or consistency?Last edited by KiDLiQuiD; 05-31-2010, 06:09 AM.Comment

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
I use a mix of your sliders and default All Star, and getting great, varied results. Thanks for the all the help.
And a quick question for anyone using the sliders. Do you play with the pitching camera behind the pitcher, or from the catchers perspective? And if so, do you let the catcher call the game, or do you throw whatever you want, whenever you want? Thanks.Last edited by BenGerman; 06-02-2010, 02:23 PM.Writer for Operation Sports

I let the catcher call the game and 95% of the time, throw the pitch where he wants it. There are times I'll go with a different pitch/location if I don't like what's selected. I use the Pitcher view for pitching.Currently Playing:

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
Why does it seem like the CPU can hit any pitch no matter the location and I can't even get a double off a meatball with perfect timing. Those are my biggest gripes with the sliders.Comment

I see you have been banned, in any case as those with sense know, thats nothing to do with sliders.Comment

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
If I am going to play AA or AAA games would I need to adjust these sliders due to the lowered ratings?
I have read on here a few times that there needed to be two different slider sets depending on if you are playing in the majors. Just curious on everyone's opionions.

Re: *****The 'Perfect' Slider Set***** MLB 10 - The Show
Excellent work on the sliders.
I'd been playing on default and these adjustments are just right. I was initially skeptical about lowering solid hits, because I felt like I wasn't getting the hits I was working for on default and if anything, my solid hits should go up. Boy, was I wrong. The less solid hits leads to a much better variety of hits. Bloopers, ripped line drives down the line and flares occur much more frequently, and fall in much more judiciously, especially with the slowed down outfielders. The slowed down outfielders and the increased reaction time, IMHO, really allow a good defensive team to shine. I started a Royals Franchise and traded for Franklin Gutierrez and Alex Gonzalez in an attempt to build around pitching and defence in that huge ballpark. It's great to really see the team I'm trying to build in Franchise actually be represented on the field in the way I envision when I put the lineup together. Taking away runs and extra bases by having an outfield (Podsednik/Gutierrez/Dejesus) that's quick and rangy and seeing it actually pay off when other outfielders can't make similar plays is excellent.
I coupled these sliders (with one tweak) with a complete overhaul of how I play the game, and it's increased my experience10-fold.
- I changed my pitching view to Outfield and turned off the strike zone and vibration. Turning off the strike zone was a real game changer for me. I find I leave the ball over the plate far less frequently without it and combined with the Outfield camera, it's impossible to tell apart from an actual baseball broadcast. I haven't thrown one pitch since changing that didn't look like it made total sense to end up where it did when it left the pitchers hand. What's also great is that without the strikezone, trying to figure out what is and isn't a strike is amazing. I find myself pitching smarter now because I'm not looking for what is and isn't a strike anymore, I'm just worrying about location and the further back camera really helps frame the stances of the hitters. I took a no hitter with Gil Meche into the 6th inning recently. It was incredible to see what was called a strike when I officially entered "Oh look, he's throwing a no hitter" territory. The announcers even pointed it out. I walked 4 guys in that game but made some great pitches to get out of jams. It was broken up in the 6th, but all 9,000 people in KC gave a standing O.
- Offensively, I switched 'Guess Pitch' to No Feedback and the camera to 'Offset'. (No strike zone, plate coverage indicator off)
First and foremost, the camera. I didn't change it until I'd changed the pitching camera and saw the remarkable difference it made there. Offset gives a better view of the batter's stance, and adds a 3rd dimension to the strike zone that gives a better angle of the pitch. It's the same as the angle used when you view a game on 'Gameday' on MLB.com to follow along with the games. And with Guess Pitch, No Feedback not only gives the biggest bonuses, but it's also great when combined with the lack of a strike zone. There's no way to know you picked the right pitch or location aside from watching it like you normally would. I find myself only using Guess Pitch now when I've got a Power hitter with the count in my favour and I want to sit on something and rip it. The lack of a strike zone and lack of Guess Pitch response or PCI have really helped with my patience at the plate. I'm not looking at the dimensions of the strike zone and hacking off anything that look like it might nibble the edge. I'm looking for the ball in the area I want it, and not hacking at anything else unless there are two strikes. Good hitters counts have led to my increased line drive %.
- I changed pitch speed to 3.
I just read a little chatter a few pages back about lowering pitch speed and it's been the trick for me. Combined with the different camera angles, you get just an extra fraction of a second to identify pitch type and location. I found that instead of foul tipping a lot of fastballs, I'm now slapping them the opposite way with my speed guys or straightening them out to power alleys with better hitters. This isn't to say I'm striking out any less. With a bad approach, or just a guy having a bad day at the plate (struck out 4 times with Dejesus tonight) the lowered pitch speed can be lethal. A good pitcher who knows how to mix speeds is very noticeable and can dominate. Jorge De La Rosa had me in fits with how much he mixed in his curve and slider off his fastball.
Really great sliders for a really excellent game. I'm hooked.Toronto Sports Fan
