I said it does not have a significant effect. It still affects it, but not by very much, because you controlling the PCI minimizes the effect of a smaller PCI.

On everything default I'm hitting the ball quite hard but its almost always at someone, i get like 2 hits a game. But i rarely strike out and I'm on rookie hitting. What should i adjust? It really can't be me so much cuz everything is hit, hard, at a player.
Sounds more like you are just unlucky. How many games have you actually played?

With regards to sliders, I would start by decreasing fielder speed and reaction. Setting them both at 3 should be fine for now.

      Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders

The main post has been more or less updated. Has anyone played around with the Stride Difficulty slider yet? I haven't used Analog hitting much. It's not a very ambiguous slider, but in particular I'd like an objective confirmation on whether increasing the slider makes things easier or harder for the batter.

Is there any other useful information someone thinks I should maybe add?

        Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders

I've been testing Stride Difficulty as of late and here is what I've found.

If you put the slider higher, negative penalties are higher and more severe. What I mean, is the timing window is decreased (on 10 rather than 5), making your PCI smaller and your contact will suffer due to this. You really have to be 'perfect' to get the rating. It isn't as exact as it should be but there is a difference between 5 and 10. On 5, the gap is so large, you really don't think about your stride. On 10, you have to.

As many have said, great write up!

In my games, I play on All-star and have the hits and runs right where I want them for both myself and the CPU, but I am having difficulty getting strikeouts for my pitcher. I am only averaging 1 or 2 a game. From what i have read in this post i would want to up my up my Control slider a notch or two? If this is the correct move, would that decrease the amount of walks my pitcher allows?

No and yes, in that order.

For strikeouts, it's tough to answer based on that information alone. Yes, technically speaking, increasing control will increase K's, but by how much? That depends on what's going on in your game right now. If you are already locating your pitches decently, increasing control will just be icing on the cake, and will do more harm than good (to your walk numbers, for example).

If for whatever reason you are missing your pitches a lot right now, then control probably is the right solution for you. It depends on how you feel about your accuracy at the moment, and what your current ball-to-strike ratios are.

Again I don't have nearly enough information, but here's the first solution to pop in my head, for each of the pitching interfaces. Go with the one for whatever control scheme you are using.

Analog requires the most drastic changes - I use Analog and currently I'm playing with CPU Contact at 1. I'm not saying that's an ideal number, I'm actually just testing stuff, but the fact I'd venture so low should speak for itself. I'd probably just recommend Contact to 3, and maybe drop Timing 1 point.

The other interfaces are on MUCH better ground.

Pulse requires a very subtle change of -1 Contact, if that. You could probably +1 your Pitch Control, if you're like me and not the best (read: too lazy to try) when it comes to timing the pulses.

I haven't spent much time playing on Meter, but the first thing I noticed is that the meter itself is somewhat difficult. Obviously I didn't spend time trying to master it, but I think if I used it I would probably leave Contact and Timing at default, but increase Pitch Consistency 1 point. If you are pretty good with the meter yourself, increasing Pitch Control instead is probably better - still, just go with a 1 point increase.

I've spent even less time on Classic (I haven't even played a full game on that thing yet). Throwing strikes is tough though, no question about it. If I had to make a slider change I'd probably go with Pitch Control +1. I got to try playing with a +2 increase in my limited time, and I definitely felt like that was too big of a change. Again though, the words "small sample size" can't be stated enough.

Sorry i didnt give you enought the first time through.

i use the classic pitching because i do miss my spots which i have found is nice for getting more walks than i do with the analog or pulse, when i use those methods and get into a 3-1 count its too easy for me to make sure i throw a strike. with the classic i feel like i can try to make sure i throw a strike but its not guarunteed i am going to get it.

it is a little hard to get the CPU to chase out of the zone but it seems like rarely does the CPU ever swing and miss at a third strike that is in the zone.

the average for the CPU is right where i want it so i aws affraid to move the contact slider but read your descriptions of the sliders and thought maybe Control wuold be the answer.

How would upping Control by 1 and lowering Consistency by 1 equal out? would that just cancel each other out or could it get them to swing and miss more but not have me put the ball exactly where i want it everytime i get behind in the count?

Again I'd need to know your ball-strike ratios, or at least your observations on them...
The gist I'm getting is that you aren't having problems with control right now? Then I believe increasing Control won't really do it. Increasing Control increases your chances of making a good pitch. If you are already making good pitches, you haven't really changed much.

On the other hand, if your would-be strikeout pitches are frequently missing, then Control is definitely the way to go.

What I'm also thinking is that you might need to re-evaluate your pitching strategy though. -6 strikeouts per game is a big deviation... are you building the confidence in your pitches properly? Setting them up?

                  Re: Explanation of Gameplay Sliders

Cleaned up a few things, and added an explanation for Stride Difficulty, as well as added a bit to the Pitch Consistency explanation:

------- Stride Difficulty: This slider affects Analog users only. This slider affects the effect your stride has on your swing. This slider works similarly to the Timing slider, just in the reverse way. Increasing ONLY this slider will give you less leeway in timing your strides. Increasing ONLY this slider will decrease batting averages and home run totals, while slightly increasing strikeouts and missed swings.
In summary, Pitch Consistency basically affects how frequently a pitch misses its target, while Pitch Control affects the average distance by which a pitch will miss. In basketball terms, Pitch Consistency affects your shooting percentage, while Pitch Control makes the difference between a shot that hits the rim, and an airball.
Thanks to ILiveforThis for clarifying how the Stride slider worked.

For more user strike outs batting, would I just do contact lower? Or would I also throw timing down as well?

Either or. Both work. If your strikeouts are way off I'd do Contact... if it's only a minor disparity, timing will probably cover it.

Does fielder arm strength affect stolen bases? My problem is that when I have the steal ability set at 4, I cannot steal a base for the life of me. It drives me crazy. However, when I adjust the slider to 3, the CPU never throws me out, which also bothers me. I currently play with fielder arm strength at 3. If I were to bump fielder arm strength to 4, would that affect the amount of stolen bases or does adjusting the fielder arm strength slider have no affect on stolen bases?
