Re: TNK - 2012 Realism Sliders Thread

Well. I've been giving these sliders a run in my Redsox Franchise. I'm 8-10, and last in hitting in the american league. #1 in striking out, and least amount of walks. I try to have patience, but most of my hits are hit right to the fielder or a dribbler. I get about 6 hits per game, but have not had a game where I broke open and had a multi run inning. My pitching isn't too bad, but I generate no offense. Maybe these are not the sliders for me.

I've been thinking the same thing. Also playing with the Red Sox. Having the same exact issues your having. Bullets right at fielders, weak dribblers or weak fly balls. Not striking out a lot and I'm able to work 2 to 3 walks per game. I think in 6 games I have 2 home runs. I'm currently 2 - 4.

I tweaked human timing at 7.
Speed fielder at 1 and reaction at 1 also, change many and you Will enjoy many kind of different play.
to balance all i put cpu contact to 3, and cpu timing at 6. The rest is like TNK's sliders. If people make to much strikeout, i don't, can tweak cpu timing at 7.
I played 3 games all with different situation, a game Was played with many hits like 12 for team another with only 4 per team.
Maybe now its possible also to let cpu at zero in score CUZ i think is really impossible either.
Another thing that speed at 1 it fit perfect For me, is that the game field seems more bigger like in reality is.
First Time When i played the game and after watched a real game, i felt like the field wasn't even bigger where outfielder stay, but smaller, due to the fielder's reactions to high showing the player already in place. Now i repeat is perfect and field size match perfect the real one.

I must agree with your points about the fielders getting to the ball very quick. The parks seem much bigger when you slow the outfield down. Now if I can only solve my hitting woo's.

I'm really liking the sliders, but am having one issue as of late. When pitching (meter), it seems that when I miss my desired location (target), the ball just seems to gravitate to the middle of the plate. Its to the point that almost half my strikes, are belt high in the center of the plate. Needless to say, I'm getting pounded. Would you suggest I bump control, or consistency? Or maybe one bump each?. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm thinking its consistency for both Human & CPU need to go up a bit which is why everyone is seeing these comebacks and close 1 run games. Right now it seems like you give up a home-run, the pitcher goes into a shell and never returns. Got 4 runs off Roy Holladay in 1 inning, he didn't seem dominant at all while my no namer did just the same.

TNKNGM - Thanks for these sliders. Been having really great games with these. Low scoring, blow outs and even a few extra inning nail biters. Over all game play feels really great and wins/loses don't feel cheap.

BTW I lowered Foul frequency by one tick as I was getting a lot of foul hits (as an RTTS pitcher and a hitter, now I strike out more because I am a really bad hitter - as I should be, instead of extending the at bat with fouls LOL)

Just finished my first "comfortable" franchise game with these sliders. Guess I just have to give them more time.

                    Playing as the Red Sox.

                    Beckett dominated this one.

Didn't hit any homeruns but did have 3 doubles and a triple.

Myself I have not experienced anything unusual with these sliders, I like them for my style of play.

I trust that if TNk is pretty good at adjusting things when they need to be adjusted, so I will wait for his feedback. I believe that people make small adjustments to meet their style from time to time.

As for the pitching, comebacks, ect....is that not baseball? Now if it happens all the time, then maybe its you, but here are some suggestions that I have done to help.

-throw different spots...call timeout visit the mound...have bullpen ready, ect. If the pitcher is off he is off, so you need to try and adjust. In real games, pitchers and batters have bad days.

-If it is happening alot, try to adjust the ratings for certain players, which is probably a better idea then to change the slider.

Again these are my thoughts, I dont' consider myself much more than an average player. thanks TNK I enjoy all the work.

Timing timing timing timing timing! Can't stress enough the importance of timing. Most hitters generate more power and consistency by hitting early and pulling. If you hit perfect timing, you are going to go Out towards center...the deepest part of the park. You will either fly out Or double, but that's about it. Learn to hit early and late and you will generate more singles and home runs.

Also, narrow your strike zone to only a section of the zone. If you are looking to pull, aim in the inner 2/3 of the zone and swing early. Opposite field aim four out 2/3 and swing late.

No better feeling than actual having control over the direction of your hits

Everything seems to be going perfect, but I might need to bump up base stealing back to default. I'm 1 for 10 after a handful of games, and when I go, it's typically on a breaking ball with a speedy runner (Bourjos or Aybar). I don't expect to be perfect and hopefully it's a base-stealing slump, but I even had trouble with exhibition games all of March.

Kind of wished they kept auto base-stealing so I don't have to worry about it, because I need to completely focus on hitting.

Man, I was cruising along in this game until the 7th inning. I knocked out Tim Lincecum in 2.2 innings of work getting 9 hits, 2 walks, and 6 runs off of him. I was also pitching a damn good game with Roy Halladay. I was leading 9-1 when I decided to pinch hit for him in the 7th inning since I had such a big league. I bring in Jose Contreras (just activated from the disabled list) to pitch the 7th inning. Inning started off good with 2 strikeouts, but then he completely imploded. Proceeded to give up 5 hits and 5 runs. 3 of those runs were on home runs by Emmanuel Burriss and Pablo Sandoval. It was getting pretty hairy there at the end of the game. I had a 9-1 lead that turned into a 9-7 lead. Jonathan Papelbon closed it down for his 4th save on the year.

                              TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

TAMPA BAY RAYS @ BOSTON RED SOX
GAME #9 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Matt Moore vs. Felix Doubront)

The Rays and Red Sox play game 3 of this 4 game set in the rain on Jackie Robinson Day and both teams will send their young lefty to the mound as Matt Moore pitches for Tampa against Felix Doubront for Boston. The Red Sox got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Darnell McDonald hit a ground rule double over the head of Zobrist in RF for a 1-0 lead. Doubront was on early as he had not allowed a base runner through the 1st 3 innings. The Red Sox made it 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd as Dustin Pedroia launched a solo HR into the monster seats. Tampa had runners at the corners with 1 out in the top of the 4th but Doubront struck out Pena and Scott back to back to get out of the jam and end the inning. The Rays got on the board in the top of the 5th on an RBI single to RF by Jose Lobaton to score BJ Upton who doubled, Doubront got Zobrist to ground out to end the inning with Boston leading 2-1. Kelly Shoppach & Jacoby Ellsbury singled to lead off the bottom of the 5th, Moore got Pedroia to ground out for the 1st out but the runners moved over to 2nd & 3rd with 1 out. Adrian Gonzalez fought off some tough pitches and put the ball in play as he grounded out for the 2nd out but got the RBI as Shoppach scored to make it 3-1. Kevin Youkilis followed with a RBI single to score Ellsbury and extend the Sox lead to 4-1. Doubront was delaing and set down the side in order in the top of the 6th, picking up his 8th K as he fanned Pena looking to end the inning. The Rays got to Doubront in the top of the 7th as Jennings bunted for a single, Upton doubled and then Sean Rodriguez delivered a single up the middle to drive in 2 runs, cutting the Boston lead to 4-3 and knocking Doubront out of the game after 6 and 1/3 innings. Boston manager Bobby Valentine turned to Matt Albers out of the pen and he got out of the inning as Rodrgiuez tried to steal 2nd and was thrown out on a great throw by Shoppach for the 2nd out, Albers then struck out Lobaton looking on a back door curveball to end the ining and the Red Sox still had a 4-3 lead. The Red Sox would use a walk to Pedroia, a double by Gonzalez and a walk by Ortiz to load the bases for Cody Ross with 1 out. Ross hit a chopper down the 3rd base line and the only play Longoria had was to go to 1st for the 2nd out but Ross would get the RBI as Pedroia scored to make it a 5-3 game. Darnell McDonald would fly out to end the inning and send the game to the 8th with Boston leading 5-3. Mark Melancon pitched the top of the 8th for Boston and he retired Zobrist, Keppinger and Longoria in order. The Red Sox were set down quietly in the bottom of the 8th by Fernando Rodney and we would go to the 9th with Boston turning to Alfredo Aceves looking to close it out for the Red Sox. Aceves struck out Pena to being the 9th, Luke Scott followed with a fly ball to CF that Ellsbury caught on the run for the 2nd out and Jennings grounded out to end the game as Aceves pitches a 1-2-3 9th for his 3rd save of the season giving the Red Sox a 5-3 victory.

                              * The Red Sox have taken the 1st 3 games of the series and look to sweep the 4 game set tomorrow as Daniel Bard takes the mound vs. Jeff Niemann in the annual 11am start on Patriots Day in Boston.

                              * Felix Doubront was excellent as he struck out 9 Rays hitters in 6.1 innings of work on the mound

                              * Alfredo Aceves has pitched in 3 straight ballgames and will not be available for tomorrows game.

Getting my *** kicked on these so far, but I really think the CPU Manager Hook is too low. Although the pitchers I have been facing have been winning, in 4 consecutive games, the CPU has let their pitcher throw 125-145 pitches and go well beyond the empty energy bar. Most of these pitchers appear gassed in the 6th or 7th, and they keep pitching through the 8th, and usually into and through the 9th. I turned it up a notch and hopefully will see pitchers getting pulled with 100+ pitches in just 6 innings. Maybe not pulled immediately, but they shouldn't be left in, especially with large leads. Let the bullpen finish the job.
