Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

Curious as to what teams you guys are using? Cause with the braves I sometimes get a rocky/bad start but the bullpen has been nothing but lights out.

The only thing I would like to see more of is strikeouts from Kimbrel, but nobody in my pen has even allowed a run so far.

TNK - BOSTON RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #2 of the Season - Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees

Pitching Matchup - Clay Buchholz vs. Hiroki Kuroda

      * Boston got back to back singles from Ellsbury and Nava to begin the game but Dustin Pedroia would ground into a 6-4-3 double play to bring up Mike Napoli with Ellsbury on 3rd and two outs. Kuroda got out of the jam by getting Napoli to ground out to end the inning. Clay Buchholz set the Yankees down in order in the bottom of the 1st and we were scoreless after 1 inning.

      * The Red Sox got singles from Middlebrooks and Victorino and Jackie Bradley drew a walk to load the bases for Jose Iglesias with one out in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Iglesias swung at the 1st pitch he saw as Kuroda grooved a fastball right down the middle and Iglesias lined into right center for a 2-run double that gave the Sox a 2-0 lead. Jacoby Ellsbury followed with an RBI single to CF to score Bradley and make it 3-0 but Iglesias was gunned out at the plate for the 2nd out. Daniel Nava grounded out to end the inning but the Red Sox pushed across 3 runs in the inning and had themselves a 3-0 lead.

      * The Yankees had two men on with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd but Buchholz would get Eduardo Nunez to chase a nasty curveball out of the zone for the final out and the Red Sox had a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.

      * The Red Sox got a 2-run HR from Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the top of the 3rd as Kuroda left a sinker up in the zone and Salty drove it into the RF stands to increase the Sox lead to 5-0.

      * The Yankees had two men on base with one out for Robinson Cano in the bottom of the 3rd. Buchholz and Cano had a great battle as Cano fouled off some tough pitches with 2 strikes before Buchholz finally ran a cutter in on the hands and got Cano to pop out to Iglesias at Ss for the 2nd out of the inning. Buchholz threw 3 straight changeups low and away to Youkilis before coming back high and inside with a 95 mph fastball for a big strikeout to end the inning and we would go to the 4th inning with Red Sox leading 5-0.

      * David Phelps replaced Kuroda on the mound to begin the 4th inning as Kuroda had a rough 1st start of the season going just 3 innings and allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits. Jose Iglesias laced his 2nd double of the game with 1 out and Jacoby Ellsbury took a fastball the opposite way for a 2-run HR down the LF line to put Boston up 7-0.

      * Buchholz was the recipient of a pair of nice plays by Iglesias at SS in the bottom of the 5th to retire Gardner & Suzuki and the score remained 7-0 after 5 innings of play.

      * Shawn Kelley Kelley took over on the mound for NY in the top of the 7th and pitched around a lead off single by Daniel Nava to keep it a 7-0 game.

      * Lyle Overbay drew a lead off walk to begin the bottom of the 7th. Buchholz would bounce back to get the next two batters before Brett Gardner lined a ball into the gap for an RBI triple to get the Yankees on the board and cut the Sox lead to 7-1 with two outs. Ichiro Suzuki ripped a groudball to Napoli at 1st base and he would flip to Buchholz who beat Suzuki to the bag for the final out to end the inning and we would go to the 8th with Boston leading 7-1.

      * Andrew Miller replaced Buchholz on the mound for Boston to begin the bottom of the 8th inning and he received a rude welcome as Robinson Cano took Miller's 1st pitch deep for a solo HR to RF to cut the lead to 7-2. Miller would get the next two batters as he fanned Youkilis and got Hafner to ground out before Vernon Wells crushed a solo HR to straight away CF to make it a 7-3 game. Miller would stay in the game with the lefty Overbay coming up and Miller struck him out with a high 97 mph fastball to end the inning and send the game to the 9th inning with the Yankees trailing 7-3.

      * David Robertson came on to pitch the top of the 9th and Iglesias reached to lead off the inning as Robertson misplayed a chopper back to the mound. Ellsbury sacrifice bunted Iglesias up in to scoring position for Daniel Nava with one out. Nava put a charge in to a fastball but Gardner caught the ball on the warning track in CF for the 2nd out and Robertson would get Pedroia to ground out to end the inning.

      * Andrew Bailey would come in from the Boston bullpen for the bottom of the 9th with a 4 run cushion as the Yankees came up for their last at bat trailing by a score of 7-3. Eduardo Nunez grounded out to Pedroia for the 1st out. Chris Stewart popped out and the Yankees were down to their final out. Bailey struck Brett Gardner out on a 95 mph fastball to end the game as the Red Sox win 7-3 to improve to 2-0 on the season and will look for the sweep tomorrow as Ryan Dempster makes his Red Sox debut against Andy Pettitte.

YES - I either manually injure guys or just stash them in Single A on their teams with the intent to manually put them in the lineups at the appropriate times.

(For Example - I'm going to put Jeter on the Yankees after a couple weeks and I'll add in Teixeira and Granderson after a month)

As for handling injuries and moves throughout the season - if a guy gets injured in the game....I make the necessary move for the other teams.

I also check the transactions every day here and make the important moves that I want to have in the game

I just started a franchise with the A's (with a handful of trades made). I'm off to a really frustrating start so far through 5 games. Pitching, in general, has been good, but it's the hitting I'm struggling with. The team batting average is close to last (.243 I think), which is realistic for the team I'm using. The problem has been hitting with runners in scoring position (.166). It seems like every time I have runners on base I get nervous and my plate discipline suffers. I guess I'll just have to work through it. Sliders are playing very well so far, though. Thanks for all the hard work, TNK!

Yeah - that's a matter of you needing to bear down and hit better with RISP.....sliders can't fix that.

We are all guilty of it at times......you just need to settle down and make sure you swing at good pitches to hit in those situations

I'm playing game #3 of my season right now......and I've chased ball 4 at least 3 times already in this game.....all 3 were with a full count so I am trying to protect but I need to be more patient.

People always complain about walks in this game and think it's a slider issue, but the walks are there if you are patient. The hits & runs are also there - it's just a matter of being patient and being a better hitter

TNK - BOSTON RED SOX FRANCHISE

Game #3 of the Season - Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees

Pitching Matchup - Ryan Dempster vs Andy Pettitte

              * Shane Victorino doubled with 1 out in the top of the 1st but was stranded on 2nd as Andy Pettitte froze Mike Napoli with a 2 seam fastball on the inside corner to get out of the inning.

              * Ryan Dempster pitched out of trouble in the bottom of the 1st as Cano doubled but was stranded as Travis Hafner grounded out to end the inning and there was no score 0-0 after 1 inning.

              * Pettitte got into trouble in the top of the 2nd as Jonny Gomes doubled and Jackie Bradley Jr singled with one out to setup runners at the corners for David Ross. The Red Sox took the lead as Ross hit a groundball to Youkilis at 3rd base but Bradley was running on the pitch and Youkilis only play was to get Ross at 1st base for the out as Gomes scored on the play to give Boston a 1-0 lead. Pettitte struck out Iglesias looking to end the inning on a questionable 3rd strike call with the count full.

              * Dempster pitched out of trouble in the bottom of the 3rd after Gardner beat out a double play ball and got Cano to ground out to Iglesias to end the inning and we would move to the 4th inning with Boston leading 1-0.

              * Mike Napoli singled to lead off the top of the 4th for his 1st hit in a Red Sox uniform. Will Middlebrooks was up next and he drove a high fastball from Pettitte that just cleared the wall at the 399 foot marker into the Red Sox bullpen for a 2-run HR to make it 3-0. Jackie Bradley singled and stole 2nd to move into scoring position with one out. Pettitte left the game in the middle of the next at bat against David Ross with an injury and David Phelps was summoned from the pen to take over on the mound and struck out Ross swinging. Jose Iglesias singled to setup runners on the corners but Phelps would get Ellsbury to fly out to end the inning.
***Pettitte is day to day with back stiffness and will not require a DL stint

              * Dempster was having control issues and the Yankees had runners at the corners with one out in the bottom of the 4th. Ichiro Suzuki put a charge into a ball but Victorino was there to make the catch on the warning track but Kevin Youkilis would score to make it a 3-1 game.

              * Boone Logan took over on the mound for NY in the top of the 7th and issued a 4 pitch walk to Ellsbury to begin the inning. Ellsbury was thrown out trying to steal 2nd on a perfect throw from Cervelli. Shane Victorino was up next and worked a full count, Logan grooved a fastball over the plate and Victorino hammered it 405 feet for a HR to CF to increase the Sox lead to 4-1. Adam Warren came on for Logan and gave up a double to Pedroia before getting Napoli and Middlebrooks to ground out to end the inning.

              * Junichi Tazawa came on in relief of Dempster to begin the bottom of the 7th and was greeted by Lyle Overbay who lined a solo HR into the RF stands just inside the foul pole to cut the Sox lead to 4-2. Tazawa got Cervelli to ground out for the 1st out and then Gardner singled to bring the tying run to the plate in Robinson Cano. John Farrell had lefty Andrew Miller ready in the bullpen and made the move to Miller to face Cano. Gardner was running on the 1st pitch as Miller threw a 97 mph fastball outside and David Ross made a strong throw to 2nd to get Gardner for the 2nd time in the game for a huge 2nd out of the inning. Cano ripped a hard groundball down the 1st base line but Napoli made a terrific diving stop and flipped the ball to Miller covering 1st just beating Cano to the bag for the final out of the inning and we would head to the 8th inning with the Red Sox leading 4-2.

              * David Robertson took over on the mound for the top of the 8th for the Yankees and issued a lead off walk to Jonny Gomes. Jackie Bradley followed with his 4th hit of the game as he singled to give the Sox 2 men on with nobody out. David Ross failed to give himself up and popped up the sacrifice bunt attempt for the 1st out. Jose Iglesias flew out to CF for the 2nd out and Jacoby Ellsbury hit the ball hard but it was right to Vernon Wells in LF for the final out of the inning as Robertson gets out of a big jam.

              * Koji Uehara came on to pitch the bottom of the 8th for Boston and got Youkilis to fly out for the 1st out. Uehara struck out Travis Hafner on 3 pitches to record the 2nd out. Vernon Wells was up next and Uehara threw him 4 straight splitters low and away before coming up and in with a 2 seam fastball to get Wells swinging for the strikeout as Uehara sits down the 3, 4, 5 hitters in the Yankees order in dominant fashion to send the game to the 9th with Boston leading 4-2.

              * Shawn Kelley struck out the side in the top of the 9th and the Yankees would come up for their final at bat in the bottom of the 9th trailing 4-2 needing 2 runs to avoid being swept at home to open the season.

              * Boston would turn to their closer Joel Hanrahan with a 4-2 lead for the bottom of the 9th looking to complete the 3 game sweep of their arch rivals. Ichiro began the inning with a ground out to Napoli at 1st base for the 1st out. Eduardo Nunez flew out to Bradley in LF and the Yankees were down to their final out. Lyle Overbay worked a full count and fouled off several pitches before finally grounding out to Pedroia at 2nd base for the final out as Hanrahan pitches a 1-2-3 9th to record the save as the Red Sox win 4-2 to complete the sweep and improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Red Sox open the season with a 3 game sweep of a Yankees team that is depleted by injuries to start the season. This is not the Yankees lineup that the Red Sox can expect to see for the rest of the season but it's still good to start the season on the right foot. Boston will face a tough test in their next 3 games as they travel to Toronto to face a loaded Blue Jays team and the Red Sox will send Felix Doubront to the mound in the opener against Josh Johnson

Re: TNK - 2013 REALISM SLIDERS

Played my first game with these sliders tonight. I've been using All-star default, but I was impressed with these sliders.

                Braves 5 10 0
                Mets(Me) 1 4 0

Each team walked twice, which was nice to see. Braves struck out 9 and Mets 7. Braves had 67% strikes and Mets 68%. Santana threw 109 thru 7 and Hudson threw 93 at 62% thru 6.2 innings. Hudson had me no-hit thru the first 4 innings so he was dominating early, but still threw enough balls.

I used Timing hitting and Classic pitching. Will try these out more and also see how they are on the Vita. Thanks!

TNK, a question about pitching. Once my pitcher starts getting remotely tired it is impossible for me to put the ball anywhere near where I want it to go my control just disappears. It looks like you tend to take your pitchers out a little earlier (85-90) pitch range than I do if they are pitching well, atleast in the 3 season games you posted.

My question is would you tend to error on the side of caution with the pitch counts? I would think a pitcher would be able to make it to around 100 pitches if pitching well but it seems like if I try to push to that I usually lose my control and in turn the lead. How much does pitch confidence have to do with this as well. If im walking a lot of guys but not giving up runs, i'm guessing that my command will suffer even more when im getting tired.

I thought about bumping up pitch control but want your opinion first.

I'm playing as Braves. 1-1 so far.

4-1 win. Uggla 2 RBI double in 7th getting the lead/win for Hudson, who had 6 Ks. Heyward with a solo hr in 1st. Kimbrel 2 Ks in 9th for save.

2-1 loss in 11 innings. Venters got the loss. Maholm had 5 Ks. Chris Johnson solo hr for my only run.

So I've been getting strikeouts from starters and pen.

Wow. Just played another game in my A's franchise and my woes with RISP continue. Led off the inning with a triple, then HBP, then BB, so I have the bags loaded with no outs. Then I choked, as usual, and struck out THREE times in a row. I'm almost proud of myself for not breaking the controller after that one. Anyways, I'll keep working on my plate discipline and swinging at good pitches to hit. Also, is anyone having any trouble picking up curveballs? I'm using the hitting view from page 1 of this thread, and I think it's really good, but I am having a tough time recognizing curveballs specifically. A lot of the time they seem to be hangers waiting to be crushed and then they bounce in the dirt. I understand that they break quite a bit, but it truly looks to me a lot of the time that they are starting out above the strike zone and will land right down the middle, but then they drop out of the zone. I don't really have trouble picking up any other pitches, so I am curious to know if anyone else is experiencing this.

I had trouble at first but there more i saw the more i learned. It is a tough pitch to pick up. kind of like the slider tailing away, but they are hittable and fun when you get a hold of one

TNK, how do you post box scores like that. Also, should these sliders still be okay with Timing and Classic?

Idk why but with these sliders, I can't get a hit for the life of me. Just used my Astros against the Mariners and Felix Hernandez. He pitched a shutout where I had 4 hits. So I decided to drop down to Veteran hitting difficulty. The next game against the Twins and Vance Worley, he pitched a shutout with 3 hits. Now I know the Astros aren't a really good hitting squad, but come on now. Lol Pitching was perfect and I really enjoyed that part, but I can't hit at all for some odd reason. On previous games, I would destroy pitching on any difficulty.

                                Hm. Weird.
