So true... too many people get in a single mind set and never adjust, it almost makes me wonder if they are even basing their sliders off of what occurs on the field in the game or what they have in their head.
Need some expert advice .... Is Solid Hits at 1 or 2 not high enough?

The latter i would suspect.
As i said, the game certainly has changed in regard to Solid Hits, and absolutely for the better.Comment

Everytime I was about to say something, I read the next post and someone beat me to it...
By far the most obvious effect you see by varying Solid Hit slider is the fraction of line drives. When you increase SH slider, you will see more line drive hits. And line drives tend to become solid base hits more, effectively raising batting average.
So I'd increase this if you feel the game produces too many fly balls and ground balls and need more line drives. Doing reverse for an opposite effect.I'd have to agree with Nomo. I lowered solid hits to 3 starting last year--mostly to yield a wider variety of hits, loopers, etc. While that seemed to work well, this year I've been much better about tracking my stats (and as Nomo predicted) I was seeing too low a line drive%, and most noticeably, just too many popups and little choppers in front of the plate. So I started by upping solid hits one setting (back to 4) about five games ago, and I'm already seeing better results. Line drive% is about where it should be, and most surprising to me, was I'm still seeing a good number of the hits I was hoping to, bloopers, balls dropping in front of OFs. So it's a small sample set, but the trend certainly looks good. I'm not sure if it's the updated physics, but I think lowering solid hits this year may not be as necessary as it probably was in the past (that's just speculation on my part).Couldnt agree more with these two fine men.
It seems to me that a lot of slider makers have literally defaulted back to the previous setting in previous games of "oh, one of the first things i have to do is destroy solid hits right down to 1/2" - simply not the case anymore.
In years past, solid hits on default would result in balls being lasered everywhere, with little sign of bloopers, choppers and the like - that too is not the case anymore.
I have it at 4 and see a nice balance, but im almost certain default would be just fine too.
Games changed folks
So unless you incorporate Super Mario Sunshine into your sliders, it doesn't make any sense to incorporate MLB The Show 2011, either.
Edit: And though it's been stated already, there's nothing I'm more sure of than that Solid Hits has a significant effect on batting averages.Last edited by Bobhead; 04-02-2013, 05:51 PM.Comment

Re: Need some expert advice .... Is Solid Hits at 1 or 2 not high enough?
I'm confused this year with the sliders for "human". I've played with the reds for about 10 games and the rangers for 12 games on all star with solid hits at 2 clicks, contact all the way down to 0 and power at default and I'm seeing 10+ hits a game. I feel like that's low for solid hits but I'm still seeing too much success. The easy answer would be to move up to Hall of Fame but when I do that it's the exact opposite, hardly any hits and runs....and when I go to HOF I put sliders at default.
I guess maybe this year I'm going to have to live with a higher batting average which I hate to do but really there's no other alternative because HOF is just too hard for me.Comment

Re: Need some expert advice .... Is Solid Hits at 1 or 2 not high enough?
When I built the slider set for myself this year, I lowered the Human Solid Hits to 3 and the CPU solid hits to 4.
But again, this was based on a lot of other sliders that were moved, and that is why I have these set the way I do.
I wrote a piece a while back about how all the sliders have to work in conjunction to on another, and that by moving one, you could affect countless others.
One of the things you have to be careful with is how the hits are married within the fielding. So if I have my fielder speed, jump, and fielding setting all jacked up to ten, even a screaming solid hit with the Solid hit slider at 5 would seem like it was too slow, as related to the speed of the fielders chasing the ball.
So when I slowed down the fielders, and their defensive attributes, to something that resembles a more accurate portrayal to real life, I needed to lower the Solid Hits setting, so that when utilized with the fielder's speeds, the hits were more realistic.
So, the point is to not get too caught up in the slider settings of XXXX or YYYY, as those settings may trigger a whole other host of problems if not used in harmony with other sliders that are dependent on the way another selection the game.
The balance between, and the symbiotic relationship thereof, is what makes the slider game so difficult.
