Because pitchers never give in, this is the majors everyone can hurt you. Now if it's a pitcher that's different, although I've been burned badly giving into them as well. Why give him something over the middle of the plate even if it is the bottom if the order?

No matter what settings you go with, if you continue to aim at big middle parts of the plate your walk numbers are going to remain fairly low. I just don't like sets that force you to throw walks, aim at the corners up down left right if your on that day they'll hit and you'll be good if your not they'll miss and your confidence drops and more and more miss then your having a bad day.

Anyway make the adjustments you feel makes it better for you, just remember walk averages aren't as high as you think be sure to google them for a reference. They should range from 2-4 but 2 or 3a team is the average game.

It's not walk nessacarily, i've been getting a couple a game. It's strike/ball ratio... But you are right about the corners and just finished the first inning and saw a nice amount of balls, mainly due to that fact that every pitch was aimed to the corners or off the plate.

Yeah it's really just about getting it kinda close, because walks will never be exact on this game. Reason bring every player approaches every at bat whether on the mound or in the box differently.

However in the game you control them all, therefor they all have your approach. But yeah I'm sure if you really focus on aiming at corners your ratio will be much better. I had the same problem and went from set to set trying to fix it when I came across a very helpful post that talked about this and how it was how and where you were aiming that was the problem. After really focusing on it I realized it was the case and I've walked more and thrown more balls inn general because of it.

Just finished up my game. Won 3-0, Kenndy went 8.0 gave up 5 hits 0 BB and 7 K's, as a team we threw 68% strikes, which almost perfect. Kennedy threw 93 pitches in 8 innings but i pinch hit for him the 9th, which is the only reason he didnt finish off the game. Felt very good and right, thanks for the tips on the corner pitches.

Re: HighCmpPct's I've been "backpacking" sliders

Ok so inhave been using a modified version of armours slides.. So I thought I would give these a try ..played roughly 10 games with them and the one thing of note i am really not liking is that every pitcher i have faced no matter if it's the # 5 guy or the ace they ALL are Greg Maddox hitting the corners!

Now i usually try to shoot for at least 15 pitches per inning out of the opposing pitcher but that ir extremely hard to do when the 1st 2 pitches that as a general rule i take end up putting me down0-2 on almost every batter

And before u ask yes I do occasionally 1st or 2nd pitch swing , but mostly at stuff in the middle. Now i get strike throwers like c.c. And medley. But 1st year rookies picking the corners like Wayne Gretzky and putting me down 0-2 pretty much every time? Come awn...man!

Also i had to bump up your solid hits slider, waaaay too many what should have been hits end up being dribblers that don't make past the outfield

Do what works for you man as far as the solid hit slider, personally I'm not having that problem I get plenty of hits a game.

Not really sure what to tell you about the pitching. I usually take the first pitch as well and then watch till I get a strike if the first pitch isn't a strike. I'd say I average at least 2 full counts a inning that's ten pitches right there.

I'll take note of it my next game and post the results.

Just had an awesome game. O's vs Tigers, I won 4-1. We had 10 hits, they only had 3. The crazy thing is, this game was scoreless after the 2nd inning. In the first, Miguel Cabrera hit a homer. After being held hit-less in the first, my O's went on to score 4 runs on 6 hits, thanks in large part to Manny Machado's 2 RBI double/

Re: HighCmpPct's I've been "backpacking" sliders

Just finished a great game! Started my 3 game series against Toronto with the O's 3rd in the AL East, 6 games behind the Rays and 3 behind Toronto.

Early on, this was a battle between Manny Machado and Jose Bautista, as both were 2-3 off of a solo shot. But whereas Machado cooled off throughout the game, finishing 2-5, Bautista kept it up. My pitcher Chen went 7.1 innings but left with a no decision with the game tied 4-4 due to Jose Bautista hitting his 2nd HR of the game (2 run HR).

I brought in Troy Patton to finish out the 8th. 2 games back, Patton was pitching great so I left him in to close the deal but he gave up 2 runs in the 9th to give us the loss, so I was cautious about leaving him in too long this game. So while I did leave him in for the 9th, I pulled him right after the first out, with 1 man on base due to walks. I'm now up 5-4 thanks to a solo shot by Navarro. Slightly off topic, but Navarro had been killing for me over his last 10 games, but had gotten injured which put him out for 2-3 weeks, and was basically just coming back, seemingly just as hot as he left.

Anyway, insert my closer, Jim Johnson. His first assignment: Jose freakin' Bautista. The good news is that he didn't get a 3rd HR on us. The bad news is that he got a sac fly that led to the runner on first getting to 3rd (the guy was a fast runner). Encarnacion comes in next and gets a single which gives ties it at 5 with 2 outs. Jim Johnson was hurt on that last pitch, so I put in an ICE COLD Darren O'Day, and he closed out the inning. 10th inning goes scoreless, fast-forward to the 11th, with O'Day still pitching.

Our bats go on fire for the 11th inning, as JJ Hardy (who I swapped spots in the line-up with Matt Weiters a few games back and really seemed to improve his game as a result) hits his 2nd homerun of the game, a 2 run homer that drove in both Hardy and Davis with only 1 out. Next up is Matt Weiters, who maybe wants that 6th spot in the line-up back, showing what he can do as he hits a solo shot on the 1st pitch which makes this an 8-5 ballgame. We end the inning, and O'Day closes it out for the W.

The game finished with 14 hits for the O's and 12 for the Blue Jays
Doubles by Davis, Weiters, and Cabrera.
Homers by Machado, Hardy (2), Wieters, Navarro, Bautista (2) and Lind.
RBIs by Machado, Davis, Hardy (4) Wieters, Navarro, Bautista (3), Lind and Blanco.

Sorry for the long post lol.

Sounds like a great game, yeah Batista and Encarnacion have giving me trouble in my yanks chise to. Edwin has 18 HRs on the season and has hit 8 of them against me lol.

Re: HighCmpPct's I've been "backpacking" sliders

Chris Tillman made it to the 9th inning 3-2 count, just struck out Jose Bautista (usually the one who kills me) with my O's with a 1-0 lead. I thought I was in the clear, and Encarnacion hits a solo shot out of the ballpark, out of the general area, hell, out of Earth's orbit. But it was all for naught as we loaded the base thanks to 2 walks and a single in the 10th inning, and scored 2 runs, winning 3-1 and sweeping Toronto.

Thanks to that sweep we are now 2nd in the AL East (still technically tied with Toronto, but ahead because of division wins). 4.5 games behind the Rays and we have a 4 game series against Cleveland (2nd in Central), and then a 3 game series against the Yankees who are last in our division, all home games. Then we (finally) have a day off, followed by 3 game series with both Chicago (4th in division) then the Yankees again, all road games. Finally we come back home to deal with Texas and Toronto again as we head off to the All-Star break. Pretty easy schedule IMO, hopefully we'll get ahead of TB.

Re: HighCmpPct's I've been "backpacking" sliders

Just played a great game against the Mets in my Yanks chise!

So it was a tight battle all game as we go into the bottom of the ninth tied at 1. Ichiro and Vernon Wells both grounded out to start the inning and with Thome coming up it looked like we were headed to extras.

Somehow Thome managed to work a 3-1 count, so I had the power swing revved up to try and end it but a curve missed low so Thome worked the 2 out walk.

Well with Thome's speed rating of 2 I decided on a pitch runner, now I wanted to use Musty (Ronnier Mustelier) to pinch hit for Youkilis who was up next and horrible against RHP but with him having a speed of 60 over Ben Francisco's 50 I used him to run for Thome and Francisco to hit for Youkilis.

So I take the first pitch with Francisco as I almost always do and it misses, so after that I decide to wait for a strike. I set the controller down as the next pitch misses for ball 2 and the next falls in to make it 2-1.

The next pitch is a fastball that I ripped with Francisco the other way into the right/center gap and to the wall. I never hesitated sending Musty around third as because he was on first the slow down around third base didn't happen. The relay to the plate was close time wise but a fair bit up the third base line and Musty slid in to home to give us the walk-off 2-1 win!!!

So awesome, felt so proud about my managing skills after that! If I had pinch ran with anyone else on the bench they wouldn't have been fast enough, and maybe no other pinch hitter gets the hit.

Also Robinson Cano extended hits hitting streak to 17 games, which has helped bring his average from the .240's to the .300's.
