What the contact slider actually does

Not sure if you guys found this out yet, but the contact slider doesn't make it easier to make contact. What it does is it effect how hard the ball is hit once you've made contact. I found this out because I was really struggling at the plate on All-Star and upped the contact slider a lot, but I wasn't getting anymore hits and was still striking out a bunch. However, when I did make contact, I would always hit a line shot somewhere or hit a hard grounder.

Hmm, then what would power do?

With the testing I've done I feel like the CPU contact slider does make them more likely to make good contact with a pitch... almost as if it increases the size of their virtual bat... I've got my CPU contact bumped way up over the power setting for them and I havent noticed any significant difference in the depth and power of the hits... just a good difference in the number and difficulty in striking them out.

I'll play a game with them maxed and a game with them zeroed out and see what the difference is...
I creating Ryan Langarhans and put him in the braves roster, but not only my entire braves roster changed but other teams roster changed too. Why is that. Now if the braves or other teams trade or sign players, there will be no point for chsnging it. If u don't have online like me, u be sad too.

Wouldn't the two theories go hand in hand???? If it's easier to make contact, then of course the contact you make is going to be more solid. The "sweet spot" is bigger, thus allowing the ball to travel faster and farther. You're both right.

I've just played 2 games with User contact at -10 (or the lowest possible setting) and I'm making just as much contact when I had it set a +10. I'm just getting a much better hit variety (liners, choppers, bloopers, everything).

                cowboy,

You are correct. That is why I posted in my sliders to turn down the contact slider for both user and cpu. The hits will still come, but there much more varieties of hits(choppers, gappers, seeing eye singles, shots down the line.

The power may need to increase a bit, but the contact slider should be DOWN from default.

That's a good find, I never thought about adjusting that. After playing MVP I realize that the hits in MLB always seem too sharp. So turning down the contact might help. That way when you do actually make good contact then you can still hit HR's etc.. But hopefully I'll see some more dribblers. Like I've never seen pitches go to the pitcher, they are always way past the infield it seems.

Wondering if there is a slider to stop so many of the web gem catches as well.

Hmm, I just tried this out. And you might be on to something. I did notice a more variety of hits, not to mention fewer amazing diving catches. Seems the lower contact causes groundballs to be hit more softly, allowing the fielders more time to make the play standing up. I saw 5 gappers hit, 2 hits shot by the third baseman, and a couple of infield hits. Good find indeed.

At first, I was skeptical. There was a total of 8 strikeouts in the first two innings, and I began to wonder if that was due to the contact slider. But the K's calmed down, and both teams ended up with 10 hits. Good game.

What was your contact set to? I'm about to experiment with it right now and Ill get back to you. I'm also thinking of editing the rosters so all the pitchers accuracy is down.
