    Re: 2015 Yankees OSFM

My BA handbook came in the other day. I'll try to post some notes on the Top 30 for the Yanks in the next day or so.

They include projections and possible position changes, rankings and some scouting reports.

Yankees signed Mat Gamel today. He will need service time if included in the set.

Okay, so one thing I do every spring training (at least when I'm working on OSFM) is take vids of the stances/motions for players that need to be created. This year I thought I might make them into gifs and post them here for everyone who is working on the set. They're not fantastic quality, but hopefully would be enough to give us a good start.

            Re: 2015 Yankees OSFM

            Baseball America's Top 30
            1. Luis Severino, RHP
Projects as plus-plus fastball and touches upper 90s (94-97) and can hit 98 and 99; changeup could also be plus-plus, putting it among the best in the majors; slider still needs work as it's about MLB average. Fastball-change combo draws comparisons to Pedro Martinez. Projects as Yanks No. 2 by 2018, behind Tanaka. Still working on his control, but he is on his way to the Bronx.

            2. Aaron Judge, OF
Expected to be in Yankees' lineup as early as 2017 as RF. Best outfield arm in the organization at above-average. Also the org's best power hitter. Projects as first-division regular (think Ian Desmond-level of player). Top of the scale raw power; has drawn comparisons to Giancarlo Stanton for power and batting stance. Average runner, played center field at Fresno State. "His tools are what scouts look for in a right fielder."

            3. Jorge Mateo, SS
Has impressed when not injured, suffering broken left wrist in 2014; had hairline fracture in left arm in 2012. Speedster with top of the scale speed (4.00s home-to-first time). System's best runner. Excellent chance to stick at short with plenty of range and plus arm. Aggressive hitter and base-stealer. Free-swinger and needs to refine plate discipline. Reminds scouts of Jose Reyes.

            4. Greg Bird, 1B
Yankees' first baseman of the future. Should take over for Mark Teixiera after his contract. Not very athletic, but can hit with the best of them. Best pure hitter in the system, and has some power, projecting 18-20 homers in the bigs (maybe more in Yankee Stadium). If he can stay healthy; he's dealt with back spasms even after shifting from catcher to 1B full-time. Below-average runner. Should be a solid MLB-avg. player in the mold of Daniel Murphy.

            5. Gary Sanchez, C
Has slipped since being the organization's top prospect las year. Potential to hit .280 with 20-25 homers in the majors. Arm ranks among the best (between 1.84s and 1.74s to second). Still working on blocking after leading Eastern League with 17 errors and 10 passed balls. Could be the catcher of the future as first-division regular, but also might end up as a DH-type. May have been passed as a backstop by Luis Torrens (see below).

            6. Ian Clarkin, LHP
Could be a No. 4 starter, or an elite set-up out of the 'pen. Three-pitch lefty with a fastball in the low-90s with some life; best secondary pitch is his change, which grades as plus (better than above-MLB-average). Also throws big-breaking curveball in the 70-72mph; has added a cutter.

            7. Rob Refsnyder, 2B
In the conversation as future second baseman. System's best hitter for average. A second-division regular projection. Still learning second base, but sprays pitches all over the field. Also has enough power for double-digit homers. Fringe-to-average defender. Reminds scouts of Daniel Murphy as a right-handed hitter. Think Matt Dominguez-level ability after fully-baked.

            8. Jacob Lindgren, LHP
Had a changeup and curve before moving to the bullpen as a junior at Mississippi State. Sinking fastball reaches 92-94 and has a power slider in the mid-80s that ranks as best in system. Has trouble with control, which can be the difference between being a closer or set-up man. Expected to pitch in high-importance innings.

            9. Luis Torrens, C*
System's best defensive catcher, despite moving to the position from the infield. Advanced blocker and has plus arm (1.85-1.94s to second). Should hit for average and may grow into some power down the line. Gap power right now. Could be team's catcher of the future with Gary Sanchez slipping last couple of years. *Will miss all of 2015 with shoulder surgery.

            10. Miguel Andujar, 3B
Profiles as solid-average regular at hot corner. Best tool is plus-plus arm and makes plenty of plays at third. Still working on reads on grounders though. Above-average defender if he continues to improve. Has a future at third with a bat that goes with the position. Should have at least average power, but struggled last year with lefties (.461 OPS). Aggressive hitter, but has adjusted to off-speed well.

            11. Eric Jagielo, 3B
Struggled defensively over the last few years, prompting some to suggest a move to 1B in his future. Power is at least a plus (18-20 homers) after hitting 16 fingers despite missing a month at Class A Tampa. Is a below-average hitter though, striking out often.

            12. Bryan Mitchell, RHP
Profiles as a No. 4 starter-type (think Mike Leake) with power-starter body. Can hit 97, has a power 12-6 curve in the high-70s to low-80s. Has also added a cutter in the low-90s and most say it's a plus pitch (better than above-average). Can lose command once in a while. Should at least be useful out of bullpen, but Yanks expect him to start.

            13. Tyler Wade, SS
Smooth, athletic defender and has just enough arm for the position. Lots of line-drive contact, an above-average runner, but needs to work on base stealing (33 SB, 14 CS in minors). Not a lot of home run power, but has doubles power.

            14. Manny Banuelos, LHP (Atlanta)

            15. Abiatal Avelino, SS
Good combination of offense and defense, is at the top of the developmental chain. Split time with Wade until quad injury. Hits to all fields, but not much power. Holes in his swing and has plate coverage and pitch recognition problems. Excellent range at short, but reactions aren't good. Arm is a plus. Good base stealer (84% successful).

            16. Tyler Austin, OF
Dealt with nagging wrist injuries in 2013. After getting healthy and lowering his hands at the plate, started hitting for power again. Defense, speed, and arm are all average. Could be an everyday outfielder if his power comes back completely (hit 16 homers in 110 games in 2012 at four levels).

            17. Jake Cave, OF
Can play all three outfield spots, but spends most of his time in center. Has average range and arm strength. Everything except power (below-avg) is at least average. Is getting to be a better hitter for average. Plays similar to Slade Heathcott, but just a notch lower (also doesn't have the injury history).

            18. J.R. (John Ryan) Murphy, C
Has already spent time in the bigs, could be Brian McCann's backup this year, but still has options. Arm can struggle getting to second at times. Should be an average-level player in the majors, with average baselining and defense. Good bat with some power (doubles mostly?)

            19. Austin DeCarr, RHP
Fastball sits around 90-94, but has hit 96. High 3/4 arm motion, has a hard curveball in the low-80s (11-5 break) that is his out-pitch. Working on his change which is in the mid-80s.

            20. Ty Hensley, RHP
Still recovering after he was attacked over the winter holidays by a football player. Unrelated to the attack, he's already had surgery on both hips and had a shoulder irregularity. Throws 96-97, but sits around 90-93. Has a 12-6 curve in the mid-70s. Still working on a changeup.

            21. Thairo Estrada, SS
Great reactions at shortstop already, despite being just 18. Has above-average arm and range at short. Scouts say he's a plus defender (think Robinson Cano's defense). Should make contact, but has below-average power (could eventually hit 10-12 homers as he fills out). Has had some injury history.

            22. Angel Aguilar, SS
Range is solid at short, and hands are above-average. Also an above-average runner (6.7s 60-yard dash). Starting to add power with strong hands and wrists. Has a leg-kick at the plate.

            23. Leonardo Molina, OF
A plus runner with a 4.2-4.1s home to first time. Also an above-average center field arm. Should add more power to his 6-foot-2 frame. Turning 18 in July, still a ways off from being ready, but could be an average major leaguer.

            24. Juan De Leon, OF
Another big, strong outfielder, De Leon has premium power and is improving approach at the plate. Could move to a corner OF spot with above-average arm. An average runner right now (could slow down as he fills out).

            25. Dermis Garcia, SS
Will likely out-grown shortstop eventually, could move to 3B then, or OF. Has soft hands to play in the infield. Plus-plus power and big time arm in the field. Drawn comparisons to Twins' Miguel Sano at same age.

            26. Jose Ramirez, RHP
Mid- to upper-90s fastball with life, and changeup has late fade. Injuries have hurt his development and his control. Inconsistent breaking ball.

            27. Ramon Flores, OF
Above-average knowledge of the strike zone, but needs to develop power to move from AAA because he's a corner outfielder defensively. Hits for a decent average (.271 career in the minors).

            28. Jose Pirela, 2B
Pirela is in camp this spring, competing with Refsnyder. Good hitting approach and is versatile (played ever position except catcher/3B last year). Grinds out at-bats, has good power (.441 slugging in the minors). Could be a utility guy.

            29. Vicente Campos (was Jose Campos), RHP
Changed his name in offseason. Had Tommy John in 2014; before that, had a 91-93 fastball with life, a changeup at 82-84 and a downer curve in the mid-70s. Curveball looks more like a slurve at times. Turns 23 this year, but still has potential. Needs to make up for lost time if he wants to make it as a back-end rotation guy.

            30. Mason Williams, OF
How far we have fallen. Was the Yankees' top prospect back in 2013, his power disappeared, not a great attitude all the time. Defense and running are above-average when he cares. Bail-out swing has sapped power. Now might be a fourth outfielder, rather than an eventual replacement for Jacoby Ellsbury. Would need to really rebound to regain elite prospect status.

Just doing this for fun because I am bored. But I think that would be my list. I can't decide, which guys to cut out. I am thinking they may release one or two more guys. May have missed one or two guys too. Do you guys have a working list yet? You can put 90 total in the game for each team right?

Solid list if you ask me. Just a few things though:
                    1. Lindgren will likely be at AAA if not in the major league pen to start the year
                    2. I think its safe to assume Romine will be dealt pending some kind of miracle at the plate
                    3. Torrens is out for the year with that shoulder injury if you want to be uber realistic

This is the list we're working off of currently: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=172123610

I love to have other opinions and suggestions, so please chime in if there are people that seem to be missing or if you don't agree with any ratings or potentials.

Lastly, now would be a great time to really finalize the workflow as much as possible. We really need help with faces for the new guys and help with stances and motions. There's also room for people to help with ratings/info and equipment (og236 has already volunteered to help with equipment).

Couple of Ratings I can confirm

Chase Whitley, John Ryan Murphy, and Austin Romine are all 65 overall.

Yeah Torrens is out for the year . I think they are going to put Lindgren at AA for a few more weeks. But they could start him at AAA. They are tossing around the idea of keeping him up with the Yanks but I just don't see it happening. I do believe they are going to trade Romine as well if they can find a taker.
