Re: Pitch Edits 2015 Discussion Thread

when these are finished I will gladly take some time out to input them into a Roster for ya'll - lemme know if you want to help to escalate things when Jeezy is done!

but anyways, very excited for this spreadsheet coming out! improves gameplay significantly! the piss-poor job that SCEA does with their pitch selection for 90% of the players out there keep me from playing a 'chise as well, heck buying the game yet.

I'll throw the edits in either a Hybrid roster or OSFM depending on whatever comes closest to the old V4 (full minors, corrections, appearances, attributes, pitch edits).

Does anyone else think the split change should be added? More pitchers use it than the Vulcan. There needs to be one that has about the break direction as the sinker. Jake Odorizzi was dealing last weekend against Yankees with a split change that was taught to him by Alex Cobb. He was facing Tanaka who also happened to be pitching really well. It showed the difference in a split change and a splitter. Tanaka's splitter was diving straight down, while Odorizzi's split was diving late at about an 11 to 5 angle. They could also add a straight change that broke straight down and make the regular change have some armside fade.

I do not like the new RFB. It should break the same way it did in last years game. A RFB is a 4 seamer that runs, mostly because it is thrown hard. Matt Harvey, Gerrit Cole, and Max Scherzer have 4 seamers that run quite a bit.

I also think there should be a 12 to 6 slider added. Though it is typically more like 1 to 7( for a righty), the point is it has more vertical than horizontal movement. Again, Harvey and Scherzer have sliders like this. A great video to demonstrate everything I've said is Max Scherzer's 2013 Cy Young highlights on YouTube.

I think there should be a double analog diagram that allows you to control pitch break. Somewhat like the diagram that comes up when your changing certain facial features on a CAP. For example, the left stick would control how much the pitch breaks while the right stick would control the direction of the break. Say you choose a change up; the left stick would control how many "yellow arrows" the pitch gets, while the right stick would let you move the "yellow arrows" from straight down or slightly cutting all the way to almost completely horizontal. This make the real life pitchers much more unique. I also wish they make some type of delivery creator. So you could choose your exact arm angle and customize other mechanics. There are quite a few of the deliveries that are pointless because the ball comes out of the hand unrealistically. Veteran 50 is one of many. IMHO, Pitching is the only aspect of the game that isn't on par with the rest of the game as far as realism.

                Hey Sean,

I was just wondering how you figure the "Command" & "Move" numbers in your Pitch Edits? Not sure if you have a simple or easy answer but was curious to know.

I looked at you spreadsheet from last year and compared it to Brooks, I get the "Velocity" & "Usage" components just not sure where/how you get the other 2?

                Thanks for the help!

Re: Pitch Edits 2015 Discussion Thread

Another thing that would help pitching. There are three "bars" for each pitch: velocity, control, break. I think there should be another one that has "early" on one side and "late" on the other. This would dictate when the pitch actually begins to break during it's flight to the plate. This and the something like the analog system I talked about in previous pitch would every pitchers pitches unique. This greatly increases the realism of the game.

Has anyone got a PM from Sean lately? He hasn't posted anything in the last couple of weeks. I've never used his pitch edits but really want to this year. I am willing to help in any way, but just wanted to know if he was heads-down working on the spreadsheet or if there are some things we can do to help him out.

Re: Pitch Edits 2015 Discussion Thread

So, while we wait for more comprehensive pitch edits, I took a look at the biggest thing that bothers me in the game: the ridiculous gap in fastball/changeup velocity.

Using Millenium's 40 man OSFM, I went through every P in the game (>65 OVR or B/A POT) who had a differential > 8 MPH and looked at their pitchFX data via Brooks. If the differential was off by >3 MPH I figured out what their ratings needed to be for realism. There were 168 pitchers I found with significantly screwed up FB/CHG ratings. Of those, only Mike Morin and Kyle Crick had faster changeups than they should have had. Not sure how SCEA got it wrong in one direction ~99% of the time. Some guys were off by 8-9 MPH on their change.

There were another 32 guys without pitchFX data with big differentials (>10 MPH) that I think are mostly OSFM additions. Finding reliable velocity info on prospects is tough - is there a good central source? I think most of these guys should probably be toned down as the differential will only grow as their ratings progress. If they've truly got all-world changeups, that's different.

There's probably some more 60ish C POT guys with 93 MPH FBs and 77 MPH CHGs floating around but I think I caught the vast majority of guys who are likely to see MLB innings.

In any case, here is the sheet in case anyone else wants to tone down this particular problem:

When you guys do these edits do you use just the 2014 season, or do you like a 3 year average?

I prefer this year. Shelby Miller for example has a totally new style that has him 3-0 so far. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/201...thod-of-attack

I know Sean takes from the last year with full reporting. For example, I don't think Ricky Romero has pitched in two years. He takes the info from that year.
