These questions always seem to come up. Hopefully we can get some good ideas here and make this a good searchable thread for the future.
In past years I used an OSFM Opening Day roster as a starting point, and manually injured all the players who were out for opening day. I added the players to the DL for the team I was controlling, and let the CPU handle the other 29 teams. I encountered a few problems with this approach: it took a long time for the CPU to add them to a DL, and it took even longer for the CPU to promote their replacements to the 25-man. Plus, it left some teams with 32-35 players on their "40-man" rosters.
This year, especially with my limited playing time, I am just concerning myself with opening-day players out for the entire season (plus players possibly out until, say, August). Should I continue using the above approach or, since the list of injured players will be much shorter, should I edit my roster before starting Season Mode to simply remove these players from the 40-man and promote suitable (or accurate) replacements? (i.e. circumventing the whole "injury" situation)
Again, my goal here is to have 100% accurate 25-man rosters, and "very close" 40-man rosters containing no players out for the entire season. Does that make sense?
