Best way to approach "out-for-season" injuries

IMPORTANT NOTE: I PLAY SEASON MODE, NOT FRANCHISE. SIMPLER MANAGEMENT, AND I ONLY HAVE THE 40-MAN ROSTER TO DEAL WITH.

These questions always seem to come up. Hopefully we can get some good ideas here and make this a good searchable thread for the future.

In past years I used an OSFM Opening Day roster as a starting point, and manually injured all the players who were out for opening day. I added the players to the DL for the team I was controlling, and let the CPU handle the other 29 teams. I encountered a few problems with this approach: it took a long time for the CPU to add them to a DL, and it took even longer for the CPU to promote their replacements to the 25-man. Plus, it left some teams with 32-35 players on their "40-man" rosters.

This year, especially with my limited playing time, I am just concerning myself with opening-day players out for the entire season (plus players possibly out until, say, August). Should I continue using the above approach or, since the list of injured players will be much shorter, should I edit my roster before starting Season Mode to simply remove these players from the 40-man and promote suitable (or accurate) replacements? (i.e. circumventing the whole "injury" situation)

Again, my goal here is to have 100% accurate 25-man rosters, and "very close" 40-man rosters containing no players out for the entire season. Does that make sense?

I think this is such a stupid goal anyway. Why do I want to face the Mets without Wheeler? Or the Rangers without Darvish?

Especially when they are players that only missed a week or two to start the season and then played the rest of the season.

Great examples for your statement there. Cause wheeler and Darvish are out for a week...

        Well sure.

But if I play with the Cubs, why do I want to play the entire season without Denorfia?

        That is dumb.

Just put all the players in the lineup. If someone gets hurt, they get hurt.

Why would I want to play without star players?

…because it's always made sense to me to start the season with the exact same situation as Real Life™ and see how things play out from there.

I'm not a big fan of starting a season or franchise with the "everyone's healthy" approach, mainly because that's never happened.

          But, hey, that's just me.
