55, Thank you so very much for doing this...
I have done the Tigers and have been doing the other teams as I play them just because I love the way the game plays so much better after the edits.
With there being over 700 pitchers in the game though, there is no way in hell I would ever get through all of them.
I am patiently awaiting for you to be done, and at that point, I will start a new 'Chise.

Thank you 55 and thank you WTNY for putting together such an awesome excel file to edit these pitchers with. The game is now heads and shoulders better than it is out of the box.
      Cheers!

The pitch that I normally see from Felix goes almost straight down. For reference, the pitch we're both talking about has an average velocity of 89.68 mph, 6.21 inches of arm-side fade (way less than the average circle change) and only 1.32 inches of backspin (a full 7 inches less backspin than his 4-seamer).

Felix's pitch actually matches up quite nicely with Tanaka's splitter in both velocity and movement: Tanaka's splitter that nobody really questions is actually a splitter has an average velocity of 87.16 mph, 5.08 in of armside fade and 1.69 in of backspin.

Certainly if you want to look up a picture of Felix gripping the pitch, you'll see the familiar circle change grip, but it moves more like a splitter.

I don't want to venture too far out into the wilderness and just go crazy with reclassifying my reclassifications on Brooks' reclassifications of PITCHf/x data, but if a compelling case can be made...
I agree. That's what I meant by replicating a pitch in game despite it's in game name. For me though, this year, they seamed to have taken away the fade on splitters and they kinda just drop. However as I said before I wasn't trying to insult you with your choices, I just kinda think Brooks labels stuff a little odd. One of my most compelling examples is Colon. That guy throws a filthy 2 seamer and he has for a very long time. Despite that, according to Brooks he throws a sinker and a fading 4 seamer with average movement with mediocre movement. I could be wrong, and I probably am, but I'd bet my left nut that he definitely throws a 2 seamer and it has a lot of movement.

Played some more today...still in love with your control ratings. It's so fun to see a pitch in a harmless situation go 9 inches off course and all of a sudden you are in a small jam. I was scared seeing 20 control rating, but in all honesty it's the best rating adjustments I've seen in a sports game since years ago when one of the OS guys decided to knock slider movement down to around 20 or so.

I take it you decided to go with WTNY's spreadsheet instead of questgav's?

I've edited around 15 teams myself, but left out some pitchers that I'll never use or face anyway. My eyes hurt and I was starting to talk to myself. . So more respect for your work! Keep it up!

Thanks a lot 55, I think all just wait then before backdating, that way I don't have to enter the pitch edits, because I know I wont be able to live without the pitch edits

I take it since you started over then you grabbed Ridins V2.1 where he fixed a couple duplicates?

                  1. Yeah, I originally classified Colon's "sinker" to a 2-seamer because of the pronounced arm-side fade vs the modest sink. It rated out as having 94 control and 69 movement. His 4-seamer moves less, only a 45 movement relative to other 4-seamers. One of the oddities about Brooks that I mentioned in the FAQ is that it lists ONLY "sinker" and no "2-seamer" although it might specify a 2-seam grip for a tiny minority of pitchers. The way to fix that is to go by "sinkers" that move more horizontally or more laterally and reclassify some to 2-seamer depending on that.

                  2. It's strange because I was also a bit skeptical of the really low movement/control ratings for some guys, but these edits play great and makes me think that perhaps some of the stock ratings were done randomly? What I'm thinking is maybe if it's a "name" pitcher, they just make it a high rating and if it's not, they give a lower rating. I'm sure SCEA has a system, and who knows..it could be amazing..but if there IS a system that SCEA uses for the stock pitch data, I haven't been able to figure it out yet. And, moreover, it doesn't seem to match well with current PITCHf/x data.

I played a quick counts game, pitch counts were awesome. I had Hutchinson of the Jays at 85 plus pitches in the 4th inning.

All of this sounds awesome WTNY, I just hope you keep a list of the changes you've made (Kluber, Felix) so that we can enter it into our franchises as we go along if there are more.

Yup, I honestly believe some of them are totally random. No pitcher can pitch with that accuracy that often. With your edits, I see amazing results. Outstanding work.

Almost halfway there. I work nights on Friday and Saturday but will have around 5-6 hours each day to work on these. I am off all day Sunday though so whatever is left by then will get done. I'm still way on schedule for these being done before June so don't sweat it, guys!

Come hell or high water these will be done by Sunday evening.

So awesome. Hutch has struggled getting past 5 innings and these edits replicate that.

The Google doc in the original post is being maintained. It already has those changes in it. I also updated Syndergaard who got in another 100 pitches or so with his start yesterday. Better to have a 400 pitch sample than a 300 pitch sample.
