I'm confused about what the "career stat" glitch is and what work-around, if any, is needed if we're using the V2.0 rosters.

I've read some posts talking about the need to manually play the first game of the season (St. Louis @ Pittsburgh on April 3rd) to avoid some sort of stats glitch, but I'm not sure I understand what's happening.

Can someone explain to me what the "career stat" glitch is and how to avoid it when starting a new franchise? TIA.

The "career stat" glitch is what was being fixed for this OSFM V2 release. If you looked at some player cards in the V1 release (Aaron Nola and Maikel Franco, to name just two), you would see completely incorrect career stat numbers. You won't have to worry about it if you draft the OSFM V2 when it's released.

As far as the whole "manually playing the first out of the first game of the season (St. Louis @ Pittsburgh)", that's a fix for a totally different bug -- namely the "crediting all players with the first homerun of their career when they hit one" bug. That's been a glitch in the game for several years now, and it doesn't happen all of the time. But just to be safe when starting a franchise, play the first out of the first game of the regular season. Just bunt the ball with the first batter or something, and once the out is recorded (or all three outs of the first half-inning, if you wanna be SUPER-safe), just sim to the end of the game. You should be fine.

Thank you for the link in your post. I'm probably going to do the same as you. I just want to make sure I understand. The players you have in bold need to be added to that team, and the names not in bold stay. Right?

Players in bold were on the 15-day DL (still on the 40-man roster) on Opening Day.

Nationals signed SP Jaron Long and put him in AA. He was in last years OSFM but not this year. Not sure if you have time to still include him.

I don't even know if these are out yet, but how do you search for rosters by a specific name in the roster vault?

You have to use the filter in the name column and look through it alphabetical.
