Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator

Alrighty, I'm a Calculator Noob, so bear with me a little bit, but I have a couple questions just to make sure I'm doing this right.

I was going to use the calculator for some minor league ratings on some guys who didn't make it into the Hybrids, and just to make sure I was putting the right stats in from the spreadsheet, I checked one of the MLBers from the Hybrid 1.1 compared to the spreadsheet (in this case, Didi Gregorius) and the numbers were a little off.

At first, I thought it was because the Hybrid 1.1 ratings would be due to the the fact that the first run of the Hybrid didn't include this season and I feel like I remember reading that the updated calculator would include some of this season's performance, but it doesn't match either or the three-year span or the 2016 suggestion. For example, my roster shows Didi have 71 for contact vs. both lefties and righties.

Spreadsheet has 74/65 under weighted, 76/55 over 3-year span, and 69/96 under 2016. Am I doing something wrong here?

I noticed this too. I think it's because this version is what will be seen in Hybrid 2.0. This implements adjustments made after 1.1 was released. If it's any consolation, it pretty much evens out. Some are better, some are worse but there is a slight different in ratings between the Hybrid and what we see in the calculator.

Remember though when you calculate out make sure:
      1. There's a batting hand
      2. If you manually import stats, your best off closing (no save) and reopening the calculator
      3. Use the main Weighted numbers to match what's in the Hybrid.

(In the OSFM Yankees thread I'll post the Yankees I've done)

Good to know. I also noticed some of the minor league hitting stats are off, which isn't the end of the world by any stretch, but I'm curious if there's a reason or just a couple that are off. I'm only having to do stats for a handful of guys who are far enough away that they'll probably never sniff the majors anyways.

I haven't added a specific place to put your own ratings. But what you could do is use 2013-16, pick a batter or a pitcher, and put the stats in the correct tab.

Just don't save it. This will mess us the ratings for real players. Just save two versions would be what I would do until I implement the feature.

Yep. Ratings calculator was updated in the time encompassing V1 and 1.1 of Hybrid. It was as we moved along in the project and found some issues that I then found the major areas I needed to improve.

So this is important to understand why I released this version of the calculator is to allow those that don't want to wait for V2 of Hybrid to input the ratings themselves.

I certainly think you'll want to download Hybrid V2. It'll be a huge step up, but this gives you the option of starting your franchise now.

Do you mean off between the calculator and Hybrid? And if so, they should be lower on the calculator than in Hybrid V1.1. Let me know specific players and ratings as well.

                Thanks!!!

I'd like something that just tells me salary for this year going forward and how much is left.
I'm pretty sure spotracs has the option to get the salaries for players for each year & not just current salaries or total contract numbers. I may be thinking of another website but I thought it was spotracs. Thanks.

Can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong? To download and use microsoft excel it costs $99. Is there a cheap version? I just want to use the excel to open the calculator.

I haven't tried it, but you could give Open Office a shot. That has an excel like program that might work.

So it for sure doesn't work in Google docs?

I tried Google docs and Google sheets and both said upload error when I tried. I have had no problem using Google for any other spread sheets (eg Scott's equip edits). What program are you using?

Ok. got it to work with OpenOffice. Now I just need to find a tutorial. Every value has a question mark?

Type in a player name. Is values are not coming up, then it sadly doesn't work in there either.

This is a pretty large file with tons and tons of formulas and data. You may simple be out of luck if you don't use excel. I apologize for that, but it's just the nature of large spreadsheets like this.

Scott's spreadsheet doesn't really have formulas. It's just data. This is massive amounts of data and massive amounts of formulas.

I wish they would add a player/roster editor on the community site that could be uploaded to the community rosters. It would make this some much easier for you guys. Another sports franchise had create a team on a site and I think roster editor so I know it can be done.
