Yes, that is correct. I know there are a couple other free versions of Excel but can't think of the name off hand. You could search for that too if you don't want to spend the money on excel. Sucks Open Office doesn't work. Maybe the SumIf formulas don't work in there.

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
Hey, Game I'm a little confused with these. Just got this working on excel and was messing around with some Yankees prospects. Montgomery, for example, his pitching repertoire doesn't show up. Also, I wanted to add some of his stats for this year because he is starting for the Yankees. How would I get about doing that? add the 17 stats to 16 and the 16 to 15 and so forth? Thank you for providing this awesome work for us, free of charge too!Comment

Only pitchers with Pitch Fx data will have their pitch repertoires. Maybe one day they'll start doing them for minor league pitchers too, but not unless they are big name guys.
As for adding stats, I guess what I would do is open the pitching tab and just put the stats in for one of the seasons. Then see what the numbers come out to and season to taste. It's extremely early to be looking much at 17 numbers, but it's why I left those tabs available to be edited. You can input whatever numbers you want.
Just keep in mind when you do that, you'll destroy the formulas. So save a separate, unedited copy or just don't save.
Hope that helps!Comment

Originally posted by proofInThe MarginFirst of all, I'd like to say that you guys are my new heroes! I just found these hybrid rosters and they're excellent. I can't wait to start a franchise.
I was playing with the ratings calculator last night and noticed that Tyler Wade's season splits (vs. Left and vs. Right) didn't match baseball reference. His season stats matched, only the splits differed. Was this a function of not having enough time to delve into minor league splits or is this an error worth correcting? I also noticed the same problem with Jorge Mateo. I imagine there are more with this issue.
I plan to correct the Yankees prospects before beginning a franchise. Would you like me to post the errors I find as I do it?
On another note, I recently ran into an article on FG with home to first times for 2016 and 2017. The article only discusses a few players but there's a link in the article to a spreadsheet containing all qualified players. I don't know if you gys are interested in using it or if you already use that information for your speed ratings but I figured I would share it regardless. I haven't made enough posts to have links in my posts but if you google "fangraphs home to first" it's the first link.
Thank you guys for all of your hard work! This made my day off awesome (and much less productive).
Yeah, sadly there is not a good place to get minor league splits in bulk. I have yet to find a good way.
So what I did, which isn't perfect, is I estimated that about 25% of ABs are against lefties. So that percentage goes to lefties and 75% to righties. Then I took the general average that most right handed hitters hit better against lefties, slightly, but left handed hitters are much better against righties, and switch hitters have better context vs righties but more power vs lefties.
This is just generally how it happens.
So basically the ratings are right but if you find out a right handed hitter is actually better vs righties, then just flip the ratings. Give the vs L rating to his vs R rating and vice versa.
The goal was to still get the player within a range of his true ability.
Thanks for the kind towards and the suggestions!Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
Originally posted by proofInThe MarginThanks for the detailed explanation, TheGame. I simulated 5 seasons last night to get a feel for how the players developed to determine if I wanted to make any tweaks or not to some prospect's rankings. I really liked the way the stats played out over the course of a full season and found the development curve very realistic. The results were much better than the ones you'd get with Sony's ratings. Thank you guys again for putting this out there!
On a less positive note, I think I found a minor glitch in the calculator. About 120 switch hitters are listed with the character 'B' instead of 'S'. The calculator appears to treat these players as lefties when it splits their minor league stats up. Moncada and Difo are both listed as 'B' and have platoon splits like a typical lefty would. It seems like any minor league player whose Bat column is left empty is also evaluated as a left hander. I noticed this when trying to determine why Tito Polo had reverse platoon splits despite having no MLB stats for the calculator to base it off of.
Sorry if you guys are aware of this already or if it's intentional. I just thought I'd share in case it was a bug. I promise I'm not trying to nitpick your calculator! It's a great tool and I really appreciate you sharing this with us!
HUGE help!!! Thanks!!! [emoji120]
Definitely something that I will fix and get re-uploaded, maybe as early as tomorrow depending on how early my meeting ends in the morning.Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
I'll post this here as well. Sorry about the delay on getting the fixed version uploaded, but I've been a bit unmotivated.
An upload/download glitch is occurring with the Hybrid roster, and we've lost at least 10+ hours of work. It's been very frustrating and defeats the joy in doing this.
Point is does anyone have any clue what could be causing this?Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
So I finally managed to load it up on a new excel (thanks to my wife's new laptop for work) Comparing it to the ones I have now... fielding's definitely way better but noticed nothing on the minor leaguers which is the ones I need.
Noticed the formulas are hidden, I like to compare formulas from some creators and combine into what I think is the best for my own calculator. Few things I'm liking from yours are the walks/strikeouts. I've always found the strikeouts being so low but with yours I'm actually seeing some 200 strikeouts from the right players. That was never the case before.
I do wonder what do you use for clutch ratings and baserunning aggressiveness. I'm happy with my steal numbers but I find the base stealers are always too good, hardly ever find them with double digits caught stealing but seeing a bit more with your stealing/baserunning.
So if you're willing to share formula (even thru private as my calculator is my personal use), I'd love to see what u use for fielding, clutch, discipline/vision, baserunning, oh yeah and bunting. The rest I'm good with. Didn't really go thru with the pitching as I'm satisfied with the pitching aspect of my calculator.Comment

Re: The Game's Community Ratings Calculator
Mainly freezing problems but other problems like glitching other players with big arms/small legs, etc. This goes for games on PS2 & XBox 360(past gen) though & not on current gen consoles like PS4 & XBox One.
Also, some games if an editor was overused it would cause glitching issues but we know that's not the case with The Show because we have no editor for this game unfortunately. I sure hope you guys can get it figured out because I am really looking forward to V2 of Hybrid if you all can make it happen. Thanks.NCAA- GO VOLS
