1) To lay out some guidelines for roster building to guide folks like me who are casual baseball fans but not necessarily the most knowledgeable or hardcore fans.
2) To invite discussion about how MLBTS players build their rosters to fit specific philosophies, budget constraints, etc.
I like baseball but am not a lifer. Managing a full 90 man roster has always seemed really intimidating to me, and the off-season especially was often difficult to manage because I didn't have a solid macro-level view of how I was building my 90 man, 40 man, and 25 man rosters.
I created a basic layout in Evernote outlining basic guidelines for filling out a 90 man roster and crafting your 40 and 25 man rosters. I use the Dodgers, so this is an NL-based model.
My hope is that this model will help users navigate their re-signings during the off-season.
I'm going to add some salary-related stuff to this post as well to help users figure out how much of their salary should be distributed to the various subgroups of players on the roster at the MLB and MILB levels.
