    MLBTS Roster Architecture

This post has two main intentions:

    1) To lay out some guidelines for roster building to guide folks like me who are casual baseball fans but not necessarily the most knowledgeable or hardcore fans.

    2) To invite discussion about how MLBTS players build their rosters to fit specific philosophies, budget constraints, etc.

I like baseball but am not a lifer. Managing a full 90 man roster has always seemed really intimidating to me, and the off-season especially was often difficult to manage because I didn't have a solid macro-level view of how I was building my 90 man, 40 man, and 25 man rosters.

I created a basic layout in Evernote outlining basic guidelines for filling out a 90 man roster and crafting your 40 and 25 man rosters. I use the Dodgers, so this is an NL-based model.

My hope is that this model will help users navigate their re-signings during the off-season.

I'm going to add some salary-related stuff to this post as well to help users figure out how much of their salary should be distributed to the various subgroups of players on the roster at the MLB and MILB levels.

    Re: MLBTS Roster Architecture

Single A I only carry one catcher, I also try to carry one at each of the 8 everyday positions in Single A & 7 pitchers (5 starters, 2 relief). I notice there are only 12 spots allocated on the Single A in this chart, instead of 15, unless my math is bad.

EDIT: There also appears to be 26 men on the 25 man rosters in MLB, AAA & AA fwiw

Hey buddy. Have you had the chance to look into this part yet? It's been about a month since you posted the information about distributing the 90-man breakdown so I wanted to ask if you've had time to look into the salary situation for MLB & minors? Thanks again buddy.

This is still in the plans. I've just been buried the last month with a family move/new house situation and a publication deadline at work.

Once my publication deadline is met (today), I'll have time to pursue a few fun side projects like the salary analysis.

I'm using OSFM rosters, so my contract analysis will only be valid for users of those rosters. Even so, the general ratios should be applicable to other roster sets.
