Okay perhaps "expected to return" is a loaded word for some players. Greg Holland as an example. He was in MLB 16 and yes he missed the entire 2016 real world season recovering from his Tommy John surgery. But even though he has yet to see any 2017 Spring Training game time, he is there training with the club and it sounds like he will have a good shot at still making the opening day roster. But he won't be in the game? Why can't the game makers monitor Spring Training and do an release day roster update for these sorts of players who were previously already in the game and are expected to make the various 25-man squads.
There are a few reasons for this.

    1. SCEA Can't just add a player that has been in previous games in. He must be approved by the MLB and MLBPA first.

    2. Greg Holland missed all of the 2016 season while being a Free Agent. He wasn't on a 40 man roster or on a Major League DL. He lost his status with the MLBPA. That is how it works in baseball.

    3. Doesn't matter if he's expected to make the 25 man roster he still has to play in a Major League game then submit his paperwork to MLB and MLBPA to become a member then he can be added to the game once it's been approved.

Rules with baseball are different from other sports. That's what it really boils down to.

Re: Missing Players in MLB 17

As a Rockies fan, it irks me that the possible closer I will want to use in my MLB 17 Season games will not be available until weeks after the real world season begins and an official roster update is made. But I understand your explanation. Thanks ...

What is sorrily missing for years now in the MLB The Show game is the ability to import a non-created player into an existing Franchise or Season file. Sure we can import created players, but now that the game is planning on using player vs player career stats in the game presentations, it makes little sense for me create my own Greg Holland vs deferring when I start my Season and waiting for a roster update for him to be in the game (assuming of course that his comeback is a successful one). Then again will a returning player such as Holland even have historical data created after an official roster update. I would like to think the answer is yes, but are we sure that it will?

Someone will likely carry over a franchise from 16, export him from that, tweak his appearance a bit if need be, and upload him to the vault anyway.

In past years I have used the create a player approach either from my own attempts or the hard work of others. But this year I would like to get the SDS player vs player history stat presentations if they exist for someone like Greg Holland, which once again why wouldn't they exist? So I don't actually see the need for importing a player from MLB 16, at least as a long term solution. I have a modified OSFM 2017 roster set right now (one of Sookiebunny's rosters) and I can use the skill attributes from Sookie's roster set to create my own player in MLB 17 and try my best at creating the likeness of stalky white guy with a scruffy beard. I am a Season MLB The Show player, not a Franchiser. So carrying over Holland's career stats is not that important. Plus I would only need this player for a couple of weeks on a Season file I would clearly restart anyway once an official roster update is released contingent on whether or not Holland is actually successful with his comeback attempt. If he fails, there is no need to worry about it.

With the Rockies there really is only Holland, Diaz and Brown. Diaz won't be back until May or something like that and there are plenty of comparable relievers to fill his shoes and I don't think Brown will be making the opening day 25-man roster. So it could be worse. There are a lot of teams that are effected more with this missing player thing-a-ma-bob than the Rockies. Plus the issue effects Franchisers way more than Season players. I am only concerned because Holland could be the Rox closer and if he is I want him on my team whether or not he is from SDS or a create a player.

You know every year since 2012 when I discovered this game, I always have the best intentions of playing all 162 games mirroring the real world calendar in my Seasons. But every year when the dog days of summer set in, I begin to burn out on the need to play a game almost every day and resorted to CPU vs CPU games to get me into mid to late September when the interest in the game picks up again. Six weeks ago I wasn't even going to buy the game this year. LOL ... but all the improvements to MLB 17 look too good to ignore. So I tell myself, this year will be different. This year the dog days will not burn me out.

          LOL ... right ... sure ... have another ...

Thanks guys ... this is an unfortunate situation regarding the missing players, but the contributors of this thread did a great job identifying who will be missing for each team ahead of the game's release so that it won't come as a shock when the guy(s) we thought would be in the game are missing.

If you're going to do it that way, why not use the import from 16? From what I've heard, all the stories and info they say about the player remains in the game.

At least in Sookie's rosters in MLB 16 Holland is not a created player, so he can't be exported and then imported. Unless MLB 17 has changed, only created players can be exported and then imported.

He will be a CAP when you carry over your franchise into this game though since he doesn't exist in the 2017 game. That's the point of this thread. To keep track and to carry over the players that won't be in 2017. Not create them from scratch haha

I guess there is some confusion on my end as to exactly what we can and cannot do with players and rosters. I am under the impression that the only time you can export a player is when they are created players. I did find a Greg Holland in the player vault (uploaded about a month or so ago so I did not take me too long to find him). I downloaded him, import him into a test roster and yes he is exportable from this test roster. So I should be able to start a new Season or Franchise file with this test roster, carry it over to MLB 17 and export/import Greg Holland into my MLB 17 Season. Thanks to the person who created this Player in the player vault, he saved me some time. But the player vault is a bit of a nightmare to navigate since you can't seem to be able to search by the player's name. It won't be easy to find all the players listed in this thread.

Edited: just sorted the player vault by owner name and I see that ShowTyme15 has uploaded a bunch of players. Looks like I might be able to add more players to my test roster thanks to ShowTyme15 hard work. Muchas gracias mi amigos.

-Start a franchise in MLB 16
                    -Fire up MLB 17
-Carryover franchise from MLB 16 into 17
-Holland will be a CAP in MLB 17 as he is not in the game. He will have his stats, service time, unique stories that the announcers talk about, etc.
                    -Export and save him
-Import him into the roster set you want to use

There is a very good chance someone is going to do this on day 1 release so you can probably just look for him in the roster vault in MLB 17 when it comes out.

Does someone know if Josh Hamilton has a 50/50 chance to appear on the game.

What I don't get is, why can't the devs make a bespoke face for a player, get his photo in, have his name in the commentary, etc. when it becomes legally allowable for them to do so? They could then add these players to the roster updates. The CAPs just don't cut it.

Tell me about it I hate the robot commentary if they are not added in, Hamilton is a perfect example, there was one year Mike Olt wasn't even in there as a option. surly they can make it hidden commentary. knowing that a player is gonna be in the game.

I HOPE Thames is a option for Audio or when you play the brewers your gonna get 'number 5' comes up to bat everytime.
