Re: The TrueSim Roster Project: MLB 18
Right, WTNY did use 60/50/40, I forgot because just about everyone in the majors had a 50 rating. I kinda jumped from him using 50 to me using 0. Honestly, using the 40/50/60 from his roster produced some of the finest baseball I've ever played.
If so, I am not so sure about this. Clutch in this game augments ratings, and if a player already has a great rating that will produce a good statistical season, he will become better than that, leading to a virtually unstoppable force late in close games, even moreso if the pitcher is not at the elite level the hitter is.
I think what the often rotating and usually star-studded cycle of least-clutch players illustrates is that great players do not perform better in clutch situations, they are just better players, and that mathematically, if a player's outs over the course of a season align to always be in late game situations, the illusion of non-clutch comes forth."The designated hitter rule is like letting someone else take Wilt Chamberlain's free throws."

So if I understand right, this means that the better a hitter is, the better his clutch rating will be?

Clutch has a very minimal impact, and since the argument is that clutch doesn't really exist, in a statistically reliable and measurable way, I wanted to make it less of a factor.Comment

If what I'm looking at is your latest roster in the link above, Ohtani has no control or movement rating for his pitches. Also, for Ohtani, you have him with 3 pitch types, but he also has a curveball, though not thrown much a sinker/2-seamer.Comment

I'm waiting to update his pitch repertoire as late as possible. The pitch edits there are just from his MLB debut, so they aren't completeComment

What I did was neutralize clutch entirely so that it's about matchups, rather than the clutch attribute.

If the Clutch rating is minimized (or even neutralized), you and I will have a long and fruitful lifetime of roster interactions.

Ok, I must have misunderstood, which is why I asked. I wasn't sure I was on the same page but that clears it up.

The 40/50/60 method (or the 0) is a very interesting take on it. But one I feel gets screwed with my progression. Do we know how they use the rating in game?Comment

Interesting. I agree clutch is a lot of noise over the signal, but my take was that the best hitters in the clutch were mostly the best hitters, and used overall hitting as a (heavy) regression point.
