Re: The TrueSim Roster Project: MLB 24
Just out of curiosity, how are these new pitches being rated/scored? Meaning how does your team evaluate what goes into adding new pitches and what the ratings are? I checked the Fidelity Rosters, and Greene's new pitches weren't even added, so it made me wonder how these ratings even get implemented. Thanks!Comment

Out of curiosity how did the Sweeper being a pitch, but not in game, change the way some players were rated? I'm sure it's not much of an issue for guys that only through the Sweeper, but there's some that throw a Sweeper and Slider and they have two drastically different speeds and breaks.Comment

So, I adjusted the calculations and instead of strike and whiff percentages, they use the per 9 ratings. What determines pitch break and control now are:
-Career groundball percentage if a pitcher's primary pitch is a sinker
-Overall strikeout rate and walk rate instead of on a per pitch basis
-Home runs allowed rate
-How often the pitcher throws the pitch/where it falls in their arsenal e.g. pitch 1, pitch 2 etc.
-For relievers, the first two pitches in their arsenal are given more weight. Most relievers only have 2 great pitches. The elite relievers may have 3, but most guys out of the bullpen don't have an effective 3rd, 4th, 5th pitch, so you'll notice the dropoff when you're controlling them or playing against the AI. Playing Out of the Park Baseball gave me that idea.
This allows us to update pitch repetoires at any time without problems. That's why we were able to add Greene's new pitch and Strider's curveball pretty easily. With the old system, maybe we would have been at the mercy of sample size issues, but not so with the new one.Comment

Years ago, I made a calculations for pitch break and control using Brooks Baseball's strike and whiff percentages. I thought the results were ok, but often, it felt like the results were a bit disconnected from the per 9 ratings.

Lol! Meh. As a Reds fan (only cause of Griffey Jr.), raised in Wisco, I'm going to debate that statement. And, I hope it's not true. Lol. Too bad the game got delayed today. Definitely going to be a good season!Comment

Why is Dansby Swanson not higher on the defensive rating? I know that gold gloves aren't always a good indicator, but he's been given two in a row. He's usually in the conversation for elite defenders at that position.Comment

Defensive Runs Saved by Season:
2023: 18
2022: 9
2021: -7
His arm is also accurate, but not overly strong compared to other infielders.
But his fielding (77) and reaction (78) are both plus-plus. Feel free to up him if it bugs you.Comment

That makes sense. I forgot he had that bad year in 2021. I knew how arm wasn't the best though.Comment
