His speed is actually awful per savant this year FYI. 6th percentile at 24.4 MPH.

For reference: Justin Turner, Matt Olson, Ozuna are all faster than him this year.

Vision is lower across the board and K/9 is higher. This is to correct sim stats.

Not sure about power honestly. We have curves that rate power so guys slug in sim what they do IRL.

I’m not surprised by that, but it’s not because he can’t run, it’s because he purposely isn’t running hard unless it was close play or an XBH. Your rating isn’t wrong for him because he rarely runs hard anymore due to injuries, but he just ran out a double on a line drive that was hit just next to the LF the other night where the other guys you listed would’ve stayed at first.

So he can run, but only when he decides to turn it on.

Yep! It’s like an Acuna situation. He can hit 30+ feet/sec but rarely does anymore due to his knees.

I'm still stuck on the fact that Justin Turner is faster than him...it boggles my small mind.

Two years of constant core/groin injuries will do that to a player. Ask them both to sprint though and Marte would be so far ahead of Turner, and then probably get injured again.

Statcast actually only uses the fastest runs to adjust out the times they aren't giving it all, so it's pretty funny that he measures that slow.

It makes sense because he never runs to first and he had a lot of ground outs last year. If he could float to first, he would.

The interesting thing about Marte is how precipitously his speed has dropped from last season to now. He was about league average last year (27.1) and now 24.1.

I wonder if a part of the drop is sample size; season is young. But his legs may truly be shot as well.

                      1. Why are the rating so drastic in this roster?

                      2. Where is Oscar Gonzalez of the Padres?

                      3. Acuña's speed rating is way too high

                        1. Read the OP for understanding on how we derive ratings

                        2. He was replaced for a Top 30 prospect.

This video from the STL broadcast sums up what I’m talking about.

He’s definitely slower, but if he was that slow, he wouldn’t be standing at second on this hit. You can see him running pretty quick around first and then slowing down into second since he got in easily. Any of the guys around him on the statcast chart would’ve had to slide or stayed at 1st. Most of his other ABs are like the below one:

So he does have speed still, he just rarely shows it because he’s usually grounding out to 1B.

I mean, this is anecdotal at best. I think in The Show, it's best to rely on the data to get generally realistic outcomes over the course of a 162 game season. Nothing could stop you from role playing your intended scenario by changing the numbers yourself, though.

Completely agree. Just pointing out why the numbers seem odd for a guy that was one of the fastest on the league a few years ago. The numbers should stay the same because it helps the sim stats become accurate. I play as the Mets so I’ve already tweaked it myself for now to help with him stealing a few bases.

Speed has no affect on sim stats FYI. Marte has 15 steals and 1 CS for me thus far with 1 speed.
