I've only played 3 games since upping contact to 7. In 2 games against the Royals I struck out 9 and 7. Against the Phillies I struck out 10. And I listen to catcher 100% of the time and just tap x.

Why do you just tap x rather than hold til the vibration

If you hold until the vibration you will be using more power on the pitch. This causes energy to deplete faster and command/control of that pitch to decrease.

What PhilliesFan13 said and to just keep it simple. I also use auto fielding and auto throwing to avoid human error (I'm 52 years old and still addicted to the game). Same goes for hitting - just tap x. Auto baserunning, no stick. Love it!!

do you guys stick to timing hitting or use directional?

i use zone and am thinking of switchig to timing. Dont like how all my hiters have the same weakness due to my skill level i rather their ratings play a bigger factor.

do you guys still hit hr's at a decent rate? is there a variety of hits?

The set was developed using Timed/Directional hitting.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 16 Timed/Classic Simulation Sliders

I am seeking some advice. I started playing the 2016 season, but as usual, I tinker around so much with rosters and attributes that I hardly finish seasons every year. So this year I planned on simming 10 years of my Tigers franchise. I put everything on Auto, but after a few seasons I got an alert saying that the Tigers won the Bryce Harper lottery. I simmed one more season and decided that I wanted to start playing. I have to when my team signs Bryce Harper, right?

Well after 12 games, my team is 10-2 and I am starting to wonder why I am doing so well. I use these sliders to the T, except I bumped foul frequency up one for both sides. I am going to list my teams stats and hopefully you guys help me determine whether I am doing fine or I need to tinker a few things. Keep in mind that this team wasn't built by me, so I didn't manipulate my 30-team control to acquire such a strong team.

The Tigers are ranked 5th. They have: 1 bar in Speed, 1.5 bars in Defense, 2.5 bars in pitching, and damn near full 4 bars in Contact and Power. Currently, after 12 games, the Tigers have 63 runs scored and 20 runs against.

                    Batting order:
                    1. 2B - Daniel Murphy (82) - 52 AB, .327/.386/.442/.828, 6 2B, 1 RBI, 9 Runs
                    2. RF - Bryce Harper (96) - 50 AB, .360/.429/.740/1.169, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 16 Runs, 4 2B
                    3. 1B - Miguel Cabrera (99) - 47 AB, .362/.434/.638/1.072, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 11 Runs, 1 2B
                    4. DH - Adam Lind (78) - 38 AB, .289/.349/.474/.823, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 7 Runs, 1 2B
                    5. LF - Justin Upton (83) - 46 AB, .348/.400/.696/1.096, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 2 2B, 8 Runs
                    6. CF - Charlie Blackmon (83) - 42 AB, .286/.333/.500/.833, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 1 2B, 1 3B, 6 Runs
                    7. 3B - Nick Castellanos (79) - 43 AB, .279/.295/.419/.714, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 1 2B, 1 3B, 3 Runs
                    8. C - James McCann (79) - 32 AB, .219/.286/.250/.536, 2 RBI, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 Runs
                    9. SS - Jose Iglesias (84) - 37 AB, .135/.135/.162/.297, 3 RBI, 1 2B, 1 Run

                    Pitching:
                    SP - Anderson Espinoza (90) - 3-0, 20.1 IP, 21 SO, 1.77 ERA, 0.79 WHIP
                    SP - Tyson Ross (88) - 3-0, 22.0 IP, 21 SO, 0.41 ERA, 0.73 WHIP
                    SP - Jordan Zimmermann (87) - 2-0, 15.0 IP, 17 SO, 1.20 ERA, 0.60 WHIP
                    SP - Michael Fulmer (85) - 1-1, 14.1 IP, 18 SO, 1.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP
                    SP - Daniel Norris (81) - 0-0, 14.0 IP, 20 SO, 2.57 ERA, 0.71 WHIP

                    RP - Matt Boyd (72) - 0-0, 1.0 IP, 1 SO, 0.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP
                    RP - Justin Wilson (76) - 0-1, 3.0 IP, 5 SO, 15.00 ERA, 2.33 WHIP
                    RP - Mario Hollands (75) - 0-0, 2.2 IP, 3 SO, 0.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
                    RP - Fernando Salas (74) - 0-0, 5.0 IP, 3 SO, 0.00 ERA, 0.40 WHIP
                    RP - Charlie Furbush (79) - 0-0, 2.2 IP, 3 SO, 0.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP
                    RP - Bruce Rondon (77) - 0-0, 5.2 IP, 11 SO, 1.59 ERA, 0.53 WHIP
                    CP - David Robertson (85) - 1-0, 3.1 IP, 5 SO, 0.00 ERA, 0.30 WHIP

                    Rankings:
Hitting - 2nd in BA, 17th in ABs, T3rd in Runs, T5th in Hits, T16th in 2Bs, T9th in 3Bs, T3rd in HRs, 4th in RBI, T14th in BBs, 1st in SOs (by 34), 3rd in SLG, 4th in OBP, 4th in TBs, 19th in PAs
Pitching - 1st in ERA (by 0.08, then 0.89), T2 in CGs, T3rd in Shutouts, 1st in Hits Allowed, 1st in Runs Allowed (by 2, then 15), 1st in ERs, 1st in HR Allowed, 1st in BBs Allowed (by 10), 1st in Ks (by 3)

These stats all look great. I am of 3 teams sitting at 10-2. One has a team ranking of 2nd and the other 19th. Do you guys think I am just having a hot start like this years Cubs, or do you think I should do some tinkering with the sliders. I feel like my pitching has been too good, especially the lack of walks. I am not really far and away in any category, except BBs Allowed.

I try to run a sim franchise the best I can, and advancing to 2020 was my way of letting the game happen and not worry too much about whether I feel like my franchise is running pretty close to real life. I figure that I can't really add my two cents in to what attributes should be in the future. This hot start had me worried, though, and any advice about whether I should play it out a little more, do this or do that would be appreciated.

Sorry for the long write up, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible while seeking advice. Thanks in advance for taking the time to assist me.

I too am on the same boat, but with way more sample size. One game after the all-star game, 92 games in, my Dodgers are DOMINATING with a record of 64-28. Just beat Arizona and Greinke 5-0 for my 5th win in a row and 6th shutout in the last 10 games. Kike Hernandez just extended his hitting streak to 19 games. Here are some of my stats:

64-28 1st in NL West. 2nd placer 13.5 games back. 2nd best record in MLB is at 58-31

                      Team stats:

                      Batting
                      BA: .271 (2nd)
                      HR: 119 (1st)
                      RBI: 405 (3rd)
                      BB: 277 (19th)
                      Strikeouts: 480 (1st)

At the same time, the game has become so easy for me, most of the time it isn't fun anymore, and so I think, what's the point of going on LOL. I try to play as SIM as possible. Pitching on the corners and being patient on the plate. I guess I just wanted to put that in here and if there's anyone who can give advice or suggestions, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I mentioned this to KB in a PM but I seriously wonder at times if the only reason Im even having success with Clayton Kershaw is because his rock solid h/9 rating is producing more outs vs hits when it comes time for that random generator to kick in that makes the decision on contact being a hit vs an out.

Ive seriously considered putting both back and merely raising the contact slider 1 at a time until I get the results I want, watching Kershaw throw fastballs in the opposite batters box gets a little ridiculous and I get it no matter how long I press the button to pitch.
I have a similar issue. W/ pitching controls as in the OP, I dominate no matter who I use, and I've got a very large sample size to work from.

With KB's settings, I find that I walk way too many batters with Kershaw. Like, many times more than what's realistic. I pitch all his starts in my Dodgers franchise. I can get his ERA more or less in the ball park, but the walks are atrociously high.

I've had similar issues, with the cpu not being able to generate any offense. I've only changed three sliders below, and have seen a reasonable uptick in the cpu's run production.

Try my 4 con 1 cons setup and then play with the contact settings like kb says, I am seeing similar results to what you are looking for..again sounds like I am using different rosters than everyone else so that could be part of it. But worth a shot no?

Yeah I've got the same problem, just wrapped up May where I went 21-7 for the month, my overall record is 37-16 and I'm 8.5 games up on SF and Arizona. My pitching is stellar, my hitting is coming around now thanks to a few adjustments as I hit .259 in May which is a considerable uptick from where it was after April but the CPU literally cant hit. I've got CPU Contact at 7 currently with Power at 4 and Solid Hits at 5 and may have to raise contact to 8 but Im sure that will bring on other problems like lack of striking the CPU out now or now an overly inflated batting average. I had power at 5 but then the CPU became a HR fest, 1 of my lone losses, when I watched Curtis Granderson launch multiple pitches over the fence while driving in 6 against me. I'm at the point where I feel like I'm devoting more time to tinkering with sliders then playing but then again winning every game isnt fun either so not sure what to do at this point.

Agreed, not sure what it is but Kershaw has terrible control and it was the same on last years game. I watch as he misses his spot by a huge margin time and time again and I see it even when I merely tap the button to pitch which is supposed to be the most accurate I thought. Its like Im either stuck with classic pitching where guys miss their spots to a ridiculous level or I change it up and go to something like meter but then I probably hit my spots much easier, no middle ground that Ive seen so far.

It's probably Classic more than anything else. Though, I have a disparity between BB/9's...I don't walk as many with Sale's 90 BB/9 as I do, say, Alex Reyes and his garbage BB/9 and Control.

The middle ground might be Pulse. Yes, there's some user input, but it's not as much as Meter/Analog and there's still some randomness in location, even if you hit the timing on a small pulse circle. The size and speed of the pulse circle varies depending on confidence and ratings.

Played my second Pulse game this afternoon - give up 8 hits, 5 runs in 5+ innings with Taijuan Walker. He walked a couple and had a handful of K's.

I think the difference between Pulse and Classic is Pulse is "truer" to ratings. Classic has the "oops the pitcher failed" moments that I think tend to manipulate ratings. Pulse seems to have less of that and pitches are hittable because they end up in hittable spots or the batter executed.

Of course, it's small sample - I've only had 2 1/2 games in Pulse (about to play another), but it's interesting.

Pulse will be as far as I venture. But I figure Classic with higher control is basically Pulse...with the risk of side effects. So figure I might as well try Pulse.
