For manual stealing, are you typically taking the L1 extra step?

Depends on the pitcher, baserunner, quirks, situation.

      Lots of factors

On the steal with Martin I didn't and with Dyson I did. I get a little paranoid to take that extra lead and do manual stealing as if they throw over, which they are more prone to do when taking that extra step, I don't know if they will even retreat back to the base since I'm holding L2 at that time and if I release L2 I assume the runner will take off for second and get caught in a run down.

I've been doing auto steals and always steal with the extra step but it does result in too many pick offs. I like the idea of manual stealing as the jumps on automatic are horrible and it's impossible to get a stolen base with a guy that has a bad steal rating.

They actually go back on pick off attempts while you are holding down L2.

            Try it out.

Manual stealing is the way to go on 17....no doubt. And I agree Chef....I like the mini game you have to play to get steals this year. It really makes it more of a simulation to me. But there is an obvious issue with auto stealing this year.

The jumps are so bad so often. It is cringe worthy.

I don't get picked off a lot with that extra step but typically as a general rule if they throw over because I took that extra step I won't take that extra step on the next pitch.

Yeah the jumps guys get are horrible and it's across the board. I've got Jarrod Dyson who has 98 speed and 99 steal and even he gets miserable jumps most the time using the auto steal method just tapping L2. Basically I'm going to manual steal and not take that extra step with anyone with above 80 speed and if I wanna press my luck and steal with someone below 80 I'll try and take the extra step and manual steal that way.

On an unrelated note how's your franchise going with Seattle? I'm 11 games into June and between May and June I've gone a combined 20-19 after going 17-9 in April. The injuries have caught up with me a bit and my pitching isn't as effective as it was early on.

I'm 25-30, just split the 4 game home/home series against the Rockies. I had a horrible stretch when I was adjusting to classic pitching HOF but now that I figured out pitching, my bats have gone cold. I just lost a frustrating but amazing game in the 14th inning where, funny enough, Dyson was picked off when he entered the game as a pinch runner for Vogelbach. I have a feeling I'm going to go on a run now that I figured out pitching but my hitting is always pretty weak. Cruz has 25 homers and 67 rbis, Cano, Seager and Segura have also hit a good amount of homers and been good but I get absolutely nothing from Martin, Zumino, Motter (after a hot start), or Valencia.

I realize injuries are a big part of the game and can determine a team's success in a given year, but I don't want injuries to ruin "my" game. I leave injuries at default for both sim and games played. I also have a "house" rule that the maximum injury for all players is 3-4 weeks. If a player gets an injury for longer than that (both MLB and minors) I go in and manually remove that injury. I started this a few years ago when I was heading in to Fenway park with my Yankees and Ortiz, Pedroia, and I think Ramirez were all out with 6 month+ injuries. I want to play against those guys. I do the same with trading. Yes, guys get traded, but I want to play against the teams with their current rosters. So I play with trading turned off.

Martin is hovering around .250 for me and has been all year. Motter was actually above .300 but there is one thing I do that most probably don't. Whenever SDS releases an updated roster I go in and manually edit all the players that changed, for good or worse, so they have a chance at matching what they are doing in real life so Motter went up and so did Gamel. They didn't go up significantly but they did go up. Like I said, good or bad I do it, and Edwin Diaz and Seager actually went down a little. Zunino was out for awhile so he has very few AB's under his belt so can't comment on him and as you know Cruz, Cano and Valencia are all injured.

Believe it or not I struggle with Minnesota having gone 0-4 against them. Sano had a ratings increase in one of the previous roster updates and his increased ratings really show, him and Dozier seem to hit me and hit me hard a lot of the time. Keep me updated if for nothing more to compare how we are doing.

Side note, after trading that dumpster fire Chris Heston back to SF and with Iwakuma on the DL I called up Cody Martin and Ariel Miranda. Last game Martin made his debut against those same Twins and was stellar going 6 innings, surrendering 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 7 and walking none. However the offense was nowhere to be found outside of a solo HR from Seager and we lost 4-2. You still throwing Heston out there and if so having any success?

Gonna stream a game now, (37-28) Seattle at (31-32) Minnesota. Sliders are identical to OP other then pitch speed is at 7/9.

Question Armor...... I set up my 30 team with CPU having auto scouting, but it appears every team is either auto scouting or manual scouting. Am I over looking something? I want the Indians to Manual scout and the other 29 teams to auto scout. Is that possible?

Simply make sure your CPU Franchise profile has everything except lineups set to auto.

It is a visual bug....do not tough those on/off manual auto buttons on those tiles. Leave them alone.

As long as the profile you have assigned to the other 29 teams is set to auto....you are fine.

Oh ok. Had me worried there for a second lol. Sorry, new to the whole 30 team thing. Do I want to leave the default profile on CPU and then switch to my Play profile when I am at the controller select screen to play my game? Thats the last question, promise. I really appreciate the help, thanks.

I will say something that is driving me absolutely crazy is the CPU putting in non-catchers in the 8th and 9th inning when they do double switches. Literally, three or four games in a row they have done this. Most recently, the Braves put in Danny Santana in for the 8th and 9th after a double switch because they already used Kurt Suzuki as a pinch hitter. I know they have James Loney and Sean Rodriguez on the bench but they use the catcher. And literally, just about every single pitch is either a passed ball or a wild pitch because the ratings matter this year. Anything in the dirt, forget it. I play honest and if I get somebody on base, I won't advance but the immersion is just killed for me when they do this.
