It's funny how my team plays better when I sim vs when I actually play. If I simulated more games I'd probably be in first place instead of lagging behind. I did win my last game against Baltimore 6-5 in 13 innings but the offense is still gutless power wise. It's very weird as my offense resembles the CPU's early on in the season and their mirrors mine from then, now I'm hitting doubles but nothing in the way of HR's where as I started the season mashing the ball. Now I simulated a game and Nelson Cruz hit 2 HR's, in my games played he lofts easy fly ball outs and pop up's galore, kinda weird that I can't drive a pitch belt high when playing but when simulating apparently he has no problem driving the ball.
This is just a suggestion, and i am not saying that it's something that is a must,but...

For games that you are playing, increase Human Power for 1 and/or Human Solid Hits for 1, if you are having trouble with HR and you believe it's not reasonable.

      Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Sli

I might have finally cracked the case on my struggles. First off, let me say that playing this game while tired is a recipe for disaster, all day yesterday I was exhausted and I was late on everything and just couldn't do **** lol, you'd think something like this would be so obvious but apparently not for me. Second, I turned preview hot zones on so I could go into an AB with an idea of where I wanted to pitch and where to avoid instead of just guessing and boy did it make a difference. I also had to come to grips that I was throwing far too many strikes trying to avoid walks and in turn leaving too many pitches out there to be hit. I played Baltimore with Sonny Gray on the mound, sliders identical to the OP and went out and shut the Orioles lineup down outside of a Alvarez HR in the 7th off of Gray as he tired. Sonny Gray was able to throw 6.0 IP, 2 ER on 4 hits, 5 K's and 4 BB's. Another thing I did was call my own game ignoring the catcher 100% of the time which allowed me to keep my confidence relatively manageable in all my pitches so when I found myself in a couple jams I could still throw my entire repertoire of pitches. This was most noticable when Gray got himself into some trouble in the 4th loading the bases with no outs. Thankfully I had solid confidence in his changeup (which is his 5th pitch) and after getting 2 strikes on Chris Davis I used his aggressiveness against him and threw a changeup away and out of the zone watching him roll over into a double play. Pedro Alvarez would come up and hit a lazy fly ball to the OF and turn a bases loaded nobody out situation into 1 run surrendered and inning over.

Biggest difference was turning those hot/cold zones on to preview so I could enter each AB with a strategy and ignoring the catcher 100% of the time as he tends to get repetitive and wants to throw the fastball constantly which hurts two ways as it causes his secondary pitches to drop in confidence and makes me more predictable in the end. That was easily the most enjoyable game I've had pitching in the 122 games I've played on this years game. It felt good to finally figure out what was causing my issues. I don't expect every game to go this way, and I'm sure I'll have games where I just get murdered but having a plan of attack for every AB makes a world of difference. Lastly, the bottom of the lineup which always seemed to get me for a big HR as of late went 0/12, again, having a strategy makes a world of difference.

Thanks to everyone who offered help and read my rants as I tried my hardest to get to this point. It feels good to be able to finally identify what the issue was and fix it.

I certainly agree with your comment about playing while tired or distracted. If I'm not wide awake and focused on every pitch I'm in big trouble. And when this happens I tend to exit the game and start over. And then my OCD kicks in and I have to start my franchise over because now I feel like I cheated. For this reason I've only played 3 games of my franchise. Now I have to have a nap before I play and make sure I'm mentally prepared before I play. Almost feels like work!! Sometimes I wish I didn't love this game so much!

I find saving and quitting mid-game to be a great boon when I know I'm playing poorly. Gives me the mental rest I need (sometimes for days lol) without any cheating. Starting doing it when I made the rule for myself that whatever happened, happened. I could not restart or redo anything, ever.

Yes, I need to discipline myself to start doing this - save the game and walk away the second I start feeling tired or losing concentration. I'm getting tired of playing the same series over and over and over again! Thanks for the tip

I smoke a cigarrete in the balcony in the 7th inning stretch! Works wonders!

Well since making the adjustments I mentioned before I believe I'm 3-1 after wrapping up a 4-2 win on the road at Tampa Bay. Hisashi Iwakuma was actually solid this game (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 Hits, 4 K's, 3 BB's) and the bullpen danced around problems but managed to escape. Were it not for a Kyle Seager grand slam I'd have had little offense, as it is he had 3 hits and my team had a total of 7 so he accounted for most my offense. Drew Smyly looks to close out the series, problem is Tampa Bay hits LHP pretty well as they rocked Paxton the game before last in route to an 8-5 loss. Thankfully Smyly has better control and doesn't pitch like he's blindfolded. I'll stream that game as well once I get done making lunch for the kids.

As a team we sit 66-58 and 5.0 GB in the division and 2 GB in the wild card with 38 games left to be played.

Not what I wanted to hear, as crazy as that sounds. I got the game tuned really well between Armor's sliders and my new approach so hopefully nothing big is changed or altered.

                        Hello all.

Heading back from Cooperstown NY tomorrow and will back into my Show Yankees Franchise.

I don’t expect the patch to be anything that will alter our game negatively.

I am in Show withdrawal!!! I had an XBOX 360 in the home I had rented for the past 7 days.....and have been falling in love with NCAA 14 again. No doubt I am firing that bad boy up as well when I get home.

But I can’t wait to resume My 2017 Yankees Franchise as we continue to pursue a post season berth in the second half of the season.

Probably changing to hitting since it's been a big compliant lately. Just my guess.

Always used your sliders this year, but never used your presentation settings...I input them in, changed a few things to my liking, and wow. Super great feeling to the game with your settings. Played as the Mariners against the Tigers. Paxton had a shaky 3-run 2nd inning but Cruz homered to lead off the bottom of the second to make it 3-1. Then in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Dyson had an infield hit, stole second, advanced to third on a sac fly, and scored on a Heredia base hit to make it 3-2. I didn't score again until the bottom of the 6th, where Heredia singled, Cano singled, Cruz grounded into a DP (moving Heredia to 3rd), and then Seager singled Heredia home. After my bullpen shut things down in the 6th, 7th, and 8th, Cruz hit his 2nd home run of the game to take the lead. Diaz came in and was electric, striking out the side for the save and the win.

                            Notable Stats:
                            Heredia: 2-4, R, RBI, SB
                            Cruz: 2-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
                            Seager: 2-4, RBI,
                            Dyson: 1-3, R, SB
                            Zunino: 2-3
                            Paxton: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 8 K
                            Zych: 2 IP, 4 K
                            Vincent: IP, H, K
                            Diaz: IP, 3 K

                            Cabrera: 2-4
                            McCann: 1-3, BB, R
                            Avila: 1-4, 2B, RBI, R
                            Mahtook: 1-3, HR, R, 2 RBI
                            Verlander: 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO

Super clean game, different presentation settings honestly made such a huge difference, and most importantly, I had fun. Great set of sliders here!

I've been having a fantastic time and now that I've got the pitching figured out and know how to pitch on HOF things have really come together. I took 2 of 3 at Tampa Bay and then swept Atlanta. I was cautiously optimistic but realized I had played the bottom feeder in each league and the next series at NY would be a better barometer of what I had and hadn't figured out. Well my team remained hot as I've won the first 2 games of the series by scores of 4-2 and 3-1. The first game Iwakuma was injured in the first inning and the bullpen came in and pitched well allowing my offense to make headway and get a lead that Diaz would close out. The next game I was finally able to throw a complete game with Drew Smyly, only took me approx. 130 games to finally pitch a complete game. Smyly was in total control giving up 1 run on 3 hits and had it not been for a mistake pitch to Matt Holliday that he blasted for a HR it would have been a complete game shutout.

I've now won 7 games in a row and sit at a healthy 70-58 on the season. I'm tops in the wild card race and have managed to close the gap with Houston down to 1 game for the division. The Yankees on the other hand have started fading just a bit. They are still within 4 games of the wild card but they were leading the division not that long ago.
