    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

Coming home to the friendly confines of Yankee stadium off a glorious 3 game sweep of the reviled Boston Red Sox, the Baltimore Orioles bitch slapped me.

    Final

    Orioles - 8

    Yankees - 0

I could not get balanced vs Kevin Gausman as he tossed 8 shutout innings in route to the win.

Michael Pineda lasted all of 4.1 innings yielding 5 runs with 3BB and 5K. He just did not have it.

Sit tight folks. I really want to lock in some things in regards to errors and stealing bases before this next update is final.

    After this one.....we are set.

Also Josh and I are testing CPU Hook at default!!! Yep you heard that correctly. The rationale and final results will be revealed as soon as we get a good enough sample size.

i got positively whooped on by the jays 7-2.... i squandered a bases loaded opportunity when it was 3-2 to take the lead but Longo grounded out to end the inning. I am still getting used to classic pitching!

Armor, what is your method with classic pitching... do you just press the button, do you hold it down? just need some insight.

also, i though i would hate auto fielding but i love how fluid it is especially with the clean screen. just throwing is alright in my book lol

          Wuz up BZito,

Check out the OP and read my clean screen pitching approach as well as JoshC1977's thoughts and approach (we basically play the game the exact same way as well as Marino whom I chat with every year before the season starts as we gather data with the game out of the box).

It is a feel thing, knowing your pitchers repertoire, how long to hold certain pitches in certain situations, when you know they have their great stuff, good stuff, normal stuff and lousy stuff.

Very Strato-Matic dice roll like approach with classic pitching and directional/timed hitting. The game is a serious table top baseball gamers dream playing this way.....and the auto fielding and manual throwing take it to the next level. Manual throwing still keeps you totally engaged in the game but the auto fielding is glorious to watch unfold and purely ratings driven with the proper slider adjustments to get that separation of elite guys, very good guys, average guys and below average guys in every phase of the game (pitching, hitting, fielding, throwing, running).

I know some of you are seeing some power shortages since the patch but I definitely didn't see it in the game I just played. 5 homers combined in a 5-3 loss. Trout hit a 3 run shot to right against me that barely got 5 feet off the ground and just cleared the wall. All my runs came from solo homers.
Also I feel the thing with the bat sound is it's way too loud in comparison to everything else happening on the field. It just needs to be quieter and a little bit of echo. Does it sound off and a little dumb? Yeah, but it doesn't change the way the game plays which is amazing with the sliders the way they are right now.

We are pretty excited right now as we hone into and finalize what we feel will be a final slider set that will give you a truly balanced game Not only for just hitting and pitching (which we feel is perfect now) but we are oh so close to getting errors and base stealing locked down!!

A few more games and I will roll out my final set.

                V4 is forth coming.

I will also give some of you suggestions for the smallest tweaks id needed.

Everyone plays different and has different levels of skill pitching, hitting and also on the strategy of how to steal successfully.

Stealing is no joke and takes great strategy and skill this year in knowing the counts, the pitcher, the quirks, the runner.

                Trust me.

What you said about stealing is completely true. I was playing yesterday versus the Rays and in the bottom of the 9th down by 1, I got a walk with Ellsbury who is by far the best stealer on the team and thinking "well, i can easily steal second here on the first pitch" he got a terrible jump because I became impatient lol.

Next day with Ellsbury on 1st I decided to take my pitches and steal when the opportunity felt right ( in the 4th pitch of the AB with the count 2-1) and whadda you know? He stole second.

I love it because I feel that in previous versions you could just steal in the first pitch and get it done right away but in this years game it's way more difficult.

                  Right on man.

Now I do notice the jumps are more difficult. I am working on a slider cocktail to balance it just a wee bit more. But nothing that will take away from the entire strategic and cat and mouse approach.

But I love it this year. It is no longer "easy" and practically automatic.

The ones in this thread with the only adjustment being my timing at 6 instead of 5.

I may have to increase human contact. I have been shut out again but I work the counts and I get good timing but everything is just weak contact. It's frustrating. I shouldn't be shutout in 4 out of 13 games. Other than that the sliders play great. Just only so many times I wait for a fastball down the middle get good timing and it just be a little pop up to infield.
