Man, I just don't think these are going to work for me. I love the polished feel of them, and I have always enjoyed your clean screen approach, but I'm finding a couple of areas that just aren't right. It can't be sample size, as I've been using these for a couple years now and have had the same findings through 25-30 games so far this year.

The biggest thing is that I cannot strikeout enough, I read pitches too well, and I make contact too easily. I'm averaging 3-4 strikeouts a game, and most usually come in the later innings when I've lost focus. Every time I see a strike, I swing at it and usually put it in play. This keeps my strikeout numbers down, as well as the CPU pitch count. In my most recent game, I took a total of two strikes and only struck out twice. When their pitcher was pulled in the 8th, he only had 60 or so pitches.

I decided to bump pitch speed up to 8/10 to create more of a challenge, but I only seemed to read pitches better. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I don't want to abandon these sliders, but some of the numbers from my games won't fly when I start my franchise.

The last few years, I've had similar issues. What I do, is manually lower the plate vision rating of my players, by 15. While not an ideal solution, it does seem to do the trick.

If I was you I would bump the timing slider down one notch. See I suck and would strike out a lot so I personally bumped it up one notch. I am able to hit the ball better now but I still strike out.

            Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

As mentioned in my prior post I was facing Verlander and figured I'd leave the sliders as is to see if first pitch strike percentages were an issue when facing an actual SP worth something. I decided to mark down the first pitch strike percentage for every pitcher Detroit threw out there just to see and the results, at least for this one game, showed me that this wasn't an issue.

            Justin Verlander - 14/24 (58.3%) - 61.5% Career
            Anibal Sanchez - 2/3 (66.7%) - 61.4% Career
            Blaine Hardy - 3/4 (75.0%) - 62.3% Career
            Justin Wilson - 2/3 (66.7%) - 59.7% Career
            Francisco Rodriguez - 2/3 (66.7%) - 57.7% Career

As you can see that wasn't an issue at all. The CPU managed to throw a first pitch strike 62.2% of the time which as I understand it the strike frequency slider only dictates how many strikes are thrown early in the count. I don't necessarily know what constitutes "early" so I only tracked first pitch strikes.

Having said that Verlander still put too many pitches over the plate and was bailed out by balls being hit right at guys instead of dropping for base hits. His final stat line was 5.0 IP, 8 Hits, 3 ER, 2 K's, 1 BB so nothing spectacular and was able to dodge giving up a lot of runs thanks to timely pitches as his BAA was 0.348 which is pretty terrible.

Any ideas how to raise the CPU average without it effecting anything else drastically? The CPU is hitting 0.227 off me with a BABIP of 0.256 and both are extremely low compared to MLB averages. The thing is they aren't striking out too often and they are only 1 hit per game off the MLB average but I have a hard time believing 1 extra hit every game would lead to a jump of 26 points in average which is what they would need to get back to the MLB average of 0.253. I'm not walking them enough but thats the biggest glaring issue but I don't see that having any effect on actual batting averages either.

EDIT - One thing I've always noticed with this game, and its been like this for years, is the less energy I put into a pitch the worse the CPU offense becomes. Ever since I started literally tapping the button for any pitch that a pitcher had low control in I've basically neutered the offense. In the last 3 games the CPU has scored a combined 3 runs while going 15/90 (0.167) while the SP's on the mound were Chris Heston, King Felix and Iwakuma. In the past I basically had to force myself into putting more effort/energy into pitches as the more I put in the more potent the CPU offense became. Anyone else notice this at all?

Oh boy, I appreciate SDS's efforts, but I hope they don't mess with gameplay here. Thanks to Armor and this thread this game is playing wonderfully for me right now.

Oh man, Armor, I don't know what you did with this newest version but I'm loving it.

I'm getting killed! I was playing on Hall of Fame for hitting and pitching cause I use Zone and Meter and both were way too easy before. I had to drop down to All-Star, but I'm still getting crushed.

Before pitching felt like a breeze. I'm talking walk Jordan Montgomery out to the mound and be afraid you're gonna end up with a complete game shutout. Two games into my fantasy draft chise, I had David Price on the mound first game and my pitch count got out of control. The Astros were stringing together hits on me and actually getting some rallies going and scoring runs that way (not just with homeruns).

Second game I sent out Harvey and 3 innings in he's given up 9 hits and 6 runs. My pitch count was like at 30 for the first inning. He's at like 70+ now after 3, but he's not going back out for anymore. Kendrys Morales took him deep last inning for a 3-run line drive homer over the left field wall.

I shouldn't underestimate this Astros lineup either and I won't for any of our remaining games. With Rajai Davis leading off, if he gets on he's stealing second. Then he has LaMaheiu behind him and Brandon Belt behind him. One of those guys is getting a base hit and scoring Rajai. Then the big man Morales behind them... ah it's looking like a nightmare.

I'm just happy that I have to actually fear hitters. I used to be afraid I'd get through every inning 1-2-3. This is a whole new game now.

Hopefully they modify/revert some of the physics. Because hit variety is way worse since the patch.

They said they based the physics/impact on actual round objects this year sphere<->cone and it seemed true before the patch. But after the patch it is just simply not shows this in game.

Anyway if they haven't altered the physics why the Power have to be changed/upped?

Ball physics aren't something they can just turn on or off - it'd take more than a patch to completely change how it works on a fundamental level. And the power argument doesn't make a ton of sense. It's like saying that adjusting the power/solid hits sliders restructure/disable the physics engine. They just modified how far the ball would travel on certain hits, but you shouldn't notice a change in hit variety.

Yeah? And how do you know that?
A simple/little change in the impact physics makes a trajectories instantly eg. flatter. Or they simply went back to the 16 version. So I don't know what are you talking about.

Anyway my opinion that after the patch the game is simply flat.

I played quite a few games yesterday and the ball still had its curve so to say when hit. So I haven't noticed any change either for what it's worth.
