Exactly this! I'm in the middle of a 3-game series with the O's. I won the first 2. Minimal walks, little scoring from them. Game 3, my starter had given up 4 walks by the 4th, and 6 runs. Zone, pitch marker, all that off makes a difference. Give it a shot.

Admittedly I do keep the part on that shows me which button is which pitch, because I'm very bad at reading the catchers signals. That said, I find myself paying no attention at all to confidence, so that helps too.

Thanks again. But my 55-year old eyes can’t see the catcher’s signals very well (or at all), so I need the API turned on. Does it give me THAT much of an advantage? I can certainly try turning the strike zone option off to get rid of that square. I’ll try to play another game tonight. I didn’t save my game 3 when CC pitched to a 4-1 victory. I’ll play that game tonight with everything but the API

      Thanks agsin

I came home from work as this pitching thing is really bugging me. So I started game 3 of the series agsin with CC on the mound. I used your exact gameplay options with the exception of the API on and I don’t warmup relievers. After a few pitches I turned on the pitch display option. CC did give up 2 runs in the 1st inning but I held the Jays scoreless for the next 3 innings. I just simmed my at bats as I wanted to focus on pitching. To be honest, I think I need to turn the pitching ball marker back on as well. While I had a decent amount of success without it, I didn’t like the feeling of “guessing” where my pitch was going to go. So I’m planning on turning API, pitching ball marker, and pitch display to on and everything else the same as you have it. Does this give me some kind of advantage?? I hope that’s not the case as this is how I feel is the best setup for me. I’m thinking of starting my franchise over with this setup and hoping I get a nice variety of games and actually lose some as well.

Thanks again for your help, Armour

I have to be in the worst slump I have ever been in in this game. I only have 26 hits in my last 8 games. I need a slump buster. Team average now down to 257 from 279. Wowwwwwww

I have this very annoying and frustrating notion that whenever I make a change to my settings I need to start my franchise over again. Which is why I’ve never come close to finishing a season.

After reading your post about broadcast view and trying it for myself, I realized that I HAVE to use this pitching view going forward because it is simply amazing. As I posted earlier the first few games seemed to make pitching too easy, even though all that I changed was camera angle. When I used the zoom camera view from behind the plate I had games where I gave up double digit runs and I feared the big hitters. My first few games with broadcast view I didn’t fear anybody and just dominated over 3 games to a point where I thought I have to go back to my previous camera angle, where I know I can dominate some games, but also can give up a lot of runs. I just didn’t get why changing to broadcast and listening to the catcher 100% of the time made pitching so easy and almost taking the fun out of the game

So I took your advice and tried the clear screen as you suggested. To make a long story short, I just couldn’t do it - I couldn’t get used to it. Maybe it is too tough for this 55-year old guy. I was pretty discouraged actually because I love this game - it is practically the only hobby I have. I couldn’t understand how simply changing pitching angles could have such a difference in my game play. Or maybe Severino, Tanaka and CC were just in a groove, as you suggest, and they will have rough patches in the future.

So I’ve spent the last day and a half experimenting and tinkering with gameplay options and I think I’ve finally found settings that I feel comfortable with to start my franchise over again

I want to use broadcast view but can’t handle using a clear screen. So I need to keep API, pitch select display and pitching ball marker turned on. What I have turned off is strike zone and swing/pitch info. Hopefully this setup works for me.

Yes, I’m overthinking things, but I just want to make this game fun for me. Where I get a good variety of games - where I have games where I get crushed, low scoring games and games where I get blow out victories. I want to feel challenged and feel like I’ve earned my victories. Hopefully I’ve found my sweet spot. I do play on HOF and use your exact sliders. If you are interested maybe I’ll post my results after my 4-game opening series against the Jays.

Thanks again for your sliders and game play advice.

Question- when you work on your slider sets do you do so in "play now/exhibition" games -OR- in Franchise Mode?

I worked on mine in exhibition mode, but then seem to get a different type of feel when I play in Franchise Mode, which has me personally frustrated.

Many thanks for your feedback / help!! (I look at other slider sets and the comments to help me see what others are seeing and value this thread and all the time you put into your thoughts & responses). Thanks!!

Well had a chance to play Game 1 of my new franchise with these gameplay options. Severino was dominant again in a 4-0 Yankees win. He needed 90 pitches to get through 7 innings. He gave up 4 hits and racked up 10 strikeouts including the first 4 hitters of the game on 12 pitches. Jays did threaten in both the 6th and 7th with 2 guys on base in each inning. Robertson needed 11 pitches to strikeout the side in the 8th and struck out 1 more in the 9th for a total of 14 strikeouts against 1 walk. Turning off strike zone and swing/pitch info made hitting more challenging for me as well but I liked the clear screen while batting. I will see how Tanaka does in Game 2

Game 2 was another shutout win for the Yankees as they beat the Jays 2-0. Jays managed 7 hits and struck out 10 times.

I think I have to go back to my behind the plate zoom camera for pitching. But for the life of me I don’t understand why changing pitching angle to broadcast has made pitching so easy. Maybe it’s because I use the API, ball marker display and pitch selection? Do these gameplay options cause this? In this game the Jays had runners on 1st and 3rd in the 4th inning work nobody out. Then Tanaka strikes out the next 3 hitters. Then I bring in Betances in the 8th. He gives up a walk, single and walk to load the bases with no body out. Then the next 3 hitters go pop out, strikeout and groundout. Chapman comes in in the 9th and makes quick work of the first 3 hitters he faces to end the game. I love the broadcast view, but in 6 games I’ve played with it I have 3 shutouts, allowed 1 run twice and 2 runs once (2-run homer in 9th)

Crazy to think I was down 3-1 to Cleveland in the ALCS now that I'm up 3-0 in the World Series vs. the Giants.

What's even more unbelievable is what was almost our downfall– pitching– has been a strength.

                    Game 1: 5-1
                    Game 2: 5-3
                    Game 3: 7-0

It helps that the offense has woken up a bit as well. Pretty much everyone is hitting at this point after some early postseason slumps. Looking to wrap this up before it goes back to New York, although it would obviously be cool to win it at home, so it wouldn't be the worst thing to lose the next 2. I just don't see that happening the way we've been playing.

Burgess, just to float an idea for ya. I use broadcast with everything turned off. So, no strike zone, no ball marker, no API, no pitch selector...and just as importantly, turn off vibration. Basically, when you aim your pitches, you do it entirely by feel - you have no "video game" aids to aim pitches off of. It is entirely by your feel and knowledge of how that pitcher is pitching that day. It can be a little tricky at first, your initial tendency will likely put too many balls over the plate (and you will be punished), but you learn from that process and find yourself pitching way further outside than one typically does with all the aids on. Then, mix in varying your button presses to get the desired break/velo on a given pitch and it makes for quite a fun experience.

                          Wuss!! LOL

In all seriousness I have user pitch control and (both) foul frequency sliders at default. So, I'm relying a bit more on my (in)ability to place pitches by feel vs using a bit more random control variance. (each approach yields terrific results - just getting there a little differently)

Thanks for your reply. I actually tried this albeit for only 5 innings. I was somewhat successful giving up 2 runs in the 1st before pitching 4 shoutout innings with Sabathia. Yes, VERY small sample size but I just felt like I was guessing when it came to location. Didn’t really like it. But obviously would get better at it after more time playing like this. I guess I’m just more comfortable playing with my current behind the plate camera angle as that is how I’ve always played. Maybe this dog is too old to learn a new trick!

In Franchise Mode, is there a way for me to review the ENERGY LEVEL of my players IN-BETWEEN games (before I'm actually playing the game)???

I am a bit frustrated as I'm trying to see if I need to call-up/send-down players (especially bullpen guys) so I have fresh arms. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Unfortunately no. That is another little thing that would be a nice little thing. Fatigue level:

                                Something like

                                Fresh
                                Average
                                Tired

                                With pitchers.
