Things just didn’t go the Astros way in this one.

They loaded the bases against Ryu in the 2nd but only managed to score 1 run.

Jose Quintana then had to leave with an injury (wrist) after just 1.1 innings.

LA tied it in the 3rd before Adrian Gonzalez, in what may be his last game as a Dodger) turned back the clock to take the game away from the Astros.

He hit two 2 run HRs (0-2 count in 4th and 1-2 count in 6th) both off Colin McHugh (who with this outing sealed his fate of not being resigned next year lol).

Houston’s bats were kept pretty quiet and Grandal added insult to injury with a 3 run blast in the 8th to make it 8-1.

The Astros got a consolation run in the 9th and unfortunately they fell 1 win short in their quest to repeat.

Jonathan Villar won the WS MVP. The lead off guy for LA was a lightning bolt all series getting on base, stealing and driving in runs. The Dodgers acquired him in a trade mid season so that move definitely paid off.

One early note for the offseason ahead of Year 3 (2019) is that AJ Hinch who’s contract was up has reportedly turned down a 3yr extension with Houston and will become the manager of AL West and state rival Texas!

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 18 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

May has come to an end for the Yankees. We find ourselves in 1st place by 3 games over Toronto and 4 games over Boston (who has cooled off big time). We ended May with two straight losses. It was the first time that happened the entire month of May! We went down 5-4 to the Orioles. It was a huge month where we mashed the baseball. The top three A.L. MVP candidates are...you guessed it, Yankees.

          Gary Sanchez
          Aaron Judge
          Greg Bird

All of them are simply crushing the baseball right now.

I will have a full May recap in the OP by this weekend. Stat's, standings, Hot Stove Trade Rumors and a "Down on the Farm" report. A couple of my 2017 amateur draft picks are making some serious noise and may be ready for The Show in year 3!!

Hey, Armor, I wanted to get your input on what I should do about my current franchise situation. I'm on April 11th, so this may just be a sample size problem, but I'm currently 10-1 with the Yankees with only 3 of those wins coming in save situations. On offense, I'm hitting the ball really well but I have 30 less strikeouts than the 2nd place team so far. I'm sure some of this can be attributed to using the Yankees' stacked lineup so that's why I'm asking for your opinion. I was thinking I'd raise the pitch speeds by one click and see how that goes but I want to know if I should at least play until the end of the month before making any changes to the OP sliders.

If I were to guess, you're able to pull pretty much everything consistently. If so, that is a pitch speed issue. Pitch speed is a very personal choice, if I had to guess, bumping it up a click (maybe even 2) could help you out a lot without tweaking anything else.

I guess it would depend on how often "consistently" is too. That could mean different things to different people. Like if you pull 90% of pitches, obviously thats too much. But really in my opinion you should be pulling quite a few pitches.

Yeah team looks set to challenge again moving forward.

I’ve gone through early part of the offseason. Picked up team option on Gattis for $6m.

Decided to let Marwin Gonzalez test FA and to replace him in LF I’ve managed to sign one of your favourite players, AJ Pollock.

Hector Rondon has followed AJ Hinch to Texas to become their closer after his asking price was more than I was willing to pay and couldn’t promise him the closer role he wanted.

Here are some other big FA signings around the league so far:

                        Paul Goldschmidt to Cards
                        Matt Harvey to Dodgers
                        Jeurys Familia to Pirates
                        Zach Britton to Indians
                        Andrew Miller to Red Sox
                        Kelvin Herrera to Nationals
                        Carlos Carrasco to Marlins
                        David Robertson to Cards
                        Cody Allen to Mets
                        Bryce Harper to D’backs - 9yrs $279m!

                        And one big Re-signing:
Manny Machado stays in Baltimore for 6yrs $179m

By the way, strikeout rate is one of fastest statistics to stabilize. So it is highly unlikely to be a sample size issue. By the time a player gets to only 60 or 65 plate appearances his strikeout rate is usually stable. You should be getting close to that range soon, so i dont think you will see a lot of difference in strikeout rate even after many more games.

It was a jab at the Wilpon's and their reluctance to spend money in years past. Alderson doesn't believe in signing bigger named bullpen guys. That Moneyball approach in which closers are created, then sold off with higher value...
