    Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders

Just wanted post something that ive noticed a lot and have mentioned before, but never looked into the data.

I have mentioned (somewhere - i thought here..) that my ground ball batting average is about what it should be. But the CPU is slways getting ground ball hits between fielders, etc. Seems like ground ball singles beat me every game.

My ground ball batting average is .242 (MLB is .239)
CPU ground ball batting average is .350 which is insane.

So i thought, well CPU power or solid hits or something needs to be changed to lower the speed of ground balls getting through. But without changing any sliders, i went back and looked at some data and expected to see something different than i saw -

The CPU hits more softly hit ground balls than me. (7.6% of human ground balls to 14% CPU)
These are usually outs, but sometimes base hits because the infielders are charging, or these are choppers, slow rollers, etc that dont get to the infield dirt..

I hit more medium hit ground balls than CPU.
    (78% to 71.5%)

Hard hit ground balls are practically even. (95mph+)
    (14.4% to 14.5%)

The medium and hard hit balls are where most of the CPU's ground balls turn into hits. Yet i actually hit harder ground balls percentage-wise overall.

I really dont think manual fielding causes this much discrepancy, because most balls that get through are base hits all the way.

Also, it is not just these sliders, because I've noticed this well before now, with many different sliders, but never took the time to look at the numbers.

I find it interesting that the CPU hits over 100 points higher than me on ground balls, yet i actually hit the ball harder...

I think the CPU just magically finds the gaps whereas I make every infielder look like Ozzie Smith

Just based on that data (and observation) it sure seems like that.

Well one thing is for sure, they arent lacking power. Lol. My starter only threw 11 pitches though. He got hurt and had to leave the game after the first batter of the game had an 11 pitch AB punctuated by a home run. I expect him to be day-to-day due to having hurt feelings.

I'll post more details soon. I still got whipped. Or as we say in Texas whooped.

It may be a coincidence....and I’m also playing the royals, but lowering contact to two I’ve noticed them taking a ton of pitches I threw right down the middle, I know lowering contact lowers vision and discipline too so I’m wondering if that’s why. I shut out the royals in back to back games. They had 5 hits both games no HRs. Mind you it’s the royals and on hybrid rosters kluber and carrasco are 99 and 96 overalls.

              Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders

I actually saw the CPU's swing rate go up 10%, from their 49% average to 59% (for just one game). So they took less pitches in this particular game. So im thinking its coincidence, at least to see a noticeable difference in one game. But time will tell.

As far as my game goes, i gave up a HR to the first batter of the game. Like i said before, my starter was injured after that pitch. Had to bring in a cold pitcher. He gave up a single and a HR. I had no long releiver for this game because he was spent. So i had to pitch other relievers for 9 innings, which resulted in pushing guys further than normal.

Short story long, it was a struggle. Gave up 4 doubles and 5 HR. 14 hits total. Only 4 K's. I only allowed 1 run in the 2nd thru 8th innings. All the rest came in the 1st and 9th innings.

Not a lot can be taken from this, given the circumstances, but one thing stood out - the CPU seems to still be able to hit mediocre/poor pitching.

                Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders

You guys know more about this and have messed with stats and percentages more than myself. This set is so damn close to being absolutely perfect and I think we all agree cpu hits need to cool it. That being said what do you guys think about this for cpu hitting:

                Contact 3
                Power 7
                Timing 0
                Foul freq 6
                Solid hits 2

Obviously I’m just making minor tweaks to what you have Fenway but if we’re looking at cpu batting averages being too high why not make timing harder for cpu and pair that with less quality hit balls by taking the solid hits down a notch? It could be the difference between 2-3 hits a game potentially.

                Thoughts?

I have been testing something very close to this in my other franchise and its pretty good. Here is what i have been testing for about 10 games:

                  Contact 3
                  Power 5
                  Timing 0
Foul Frequency 8 (will lower this to 7. But fouls are very close.)
                  Solid Hits 2

Even with power down 2 notches, their hit type percentages are 1B-61%, 2B-23.4%, 3B-0.13%, HR-15.6%

They are getting 9.63 hits per game (as opposed to the real Rangers 9.35/G)

They are getting 1.50 HR/G (Real Rangers 1.31/G)

Keep in mind - this is using analog, with lowered human consistency. So the lower consistency may play slightly into this.

I’m going to try the lowered timing and solid hits for 10 games and I’ll report back what I see

                      Re: FenwayMac 2018 Legend Sliders

So this this is the first game with the contact dropped to 2. I have to say that it felt MUCH better. Felt good right up until the magically SD rally in the 9th inning. After solid pitching all game I inexplicably walked the leadoff batter on four straight pitches, failed to get the ball to second for the force on the next play, and then a sac, sac fly and a play where the ball literally went through my shortstop into the outfield for another SD run sealed my fate. I get that legend level means the computer should find ways to challenge, but the way it goes about it sometimes is just insulting.

Regardless a decent boxscore to post. So, my testing is:

                      CPU Contact:2
                      CPU Power:7
                      CPU FF: 7
                      CPU Solid Hits:3
                      CPU Timing:1

Okay I think I had a weird game. And the royals are awful on offense. I swear I’d throw it right down the pipe and they’d just let it pass by. Not sure if that had to do with the slider or not

Big test for the sliders. I am up 7-1 on SD in the 3rd. Will it hold up or will Pittsburgh implode?

Well, they sure did try. A few solo shots including an inside-the-park homer in and a double followed by an error where my cutoff man threw to some fan in section 134 Row 12. So much for no comeback code. Whatever.

BUT this game belonged to me as my offense got healthy in a big way with 19 hits! So many good things happened. My core power all all homers and there was plenty of pop in the bat. Hoist the colors

Yeah I’m opposite cpu just got 19 hits off my lol! Those two games I held the royals to 10 hits total between the two and game three they smack around 19. They had 11 by the 5th inning against a top prospect I had recently called up.

This almost makes me want to drop pitching to HOF with a good slider set but for now I will refrain!
