I decide to pinch hit rookie CF Walter Ryu for Clint Frazier vs Red Sox closer Edwardo Nunez.

    LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!

And we are no doubt staying with 20 for several more years. I am not getting a PS5 for a little while and with Y2Y gone.....I am sticking with 20 and all my incredible rosters from this community.

I wish all of you the best who are moving on to 21. But I will still keep this thread alive for those who will stick with 20 for a while.
Craziest game I have ever watched on your stream. Bummer you lost but this game has a way of making losses feel great too! I am with you on sticking with 20 but I still want a ps5 to play 20 on because I still have a base ps4. Doubt I will be able to find one soon, hopefully by March. I want to go into the store and purchase instead of buying online. That sounds like it will never happen honestly. Oh well, like you said there is so much to do with this game with all of the great rosters out there! Talk to you soon

      Good morning Vertman.

I am with you. I am going to get a PS5. I actually have circled Christmas 2022 as my target date. I have a PS4 Pro and it is a great console. And it is not that old. I have only had the Pro since MLB 17 (had the base and gave it to my son for 14-16). So we have plenty of time to enjoy it and keep playing the great backlog of games I have for it.

I think you will eventually be able to grab a PS5 on Amazon. I bought my 4 and 4 Pro on amazon and that was easy. Why this launch for the PS5 has been horrid is beyond belief. Just extremely poor. Same with the XBOX X from what I understand.

I gotta believe by the time 2022 Christmas rolls around the disc version (gotta have that version) will be $399 and the digital version $299

Plus games are 69.99 new now for the PS5. Well the 59.99 party finally ended LOL.

Being I turned 51 yesterday.....I am way over paying full retail for anything video game related. And it is not the money....that is not a problem for me fortunately. It is simply principal. LOL. When I know if I just wait I will get it 50% less 6 months later. And a year later under $20 bucks. It is too easy to wait at my age now. The only games I would snag on release the last several years were The Show and Madden. That is my Sports game fandom at work LOL! Plus you all need sliders.....so that joy of developing them and talking sports games is always there.

Who is optimistic we are getting some great franchise overhaul on 21? Why for the first time am I not optimistic? I feel bad about it. I really like the guys at SDS. They have always ben very cool with me. But a bad gut feeling has overtaken me on this game heading to the new gen.

And I never got excited for it because I saw the direction of the online card modes simply taking over sports games and ow the Show went multi platform which really opens the pandora’s box on Diamond Dynasty. Which BTW is a great card mode that you can play totally offline. But it is not my thing. I only like collecting the cards. But dislike the mode itself. Pure grind. Not baseball.

      Anyway just venting.

As someone that works in telecom, dealing with equipment, I saw this coming before last summer. We've had the same sort of equipment issues and still do to this day. It's the production(Parts needed) that's part of the problem.

The other bigger problem has been scalpers. It wasn't as bad with PS4 cause you could walk in to a store and get 1 when they had it available. Stores don't want to do that due to the pandemic.

I still think it's random luck I was able to get a Disc PS5 launch week(PreOrdered) and a Digital PS5 in Dec. Basically have same chance of winning on a slot machine. I sold my Disc version to my buddy that really wanted it for regular price.

21's Franchise mode will have to be a MAJOR upgrade for me to jump on it Day 1, but we'll see. Those cross-gen years are tough to work thru. 2K did it right for next gen, and even Madden's next gen is an upgrade.

I'll say though, the Show 20 on PS5 is, to me, the best sports game to play on next gen though. It may not have the graphics of 2k21, but it for sure has the best gameplay.

Kinda does worry me what the changes they have in mind for 21 might do to the game. Gameplay is phenomenal for 20, I hope they can keep that with better tweaks and revamp Franchise mode. Not liking the sound of the 3 play options at all.

This is where I get really apprehensive in the direction of the core coding. We all know how badly the influencers and stub addicts whine and moan about how the game plays. Every cycle, like clockwork. They want to hit .750 with 120 HR’s.

That is simply not simulation baseball.

Stick skills.....that word has made it’s way into the Show’s language. Just a lot of red flags that the game is moving on from “us”.

I am nervous about the core coding of gameplay.

I am probably over reacting....and want to be wrong about my apprehension on the move to the net gen of consoles. But history and all other sports games (Madden and 2K more in particular) have really jumped the shark on simulation, offline franchise mode guys like us.

Would love to hear more thoughts about potential great things or bad things with the move to next gen.

The comfort I have is knowing I have MLB 14-20 and more importantly MLB 20 which has been the pinnacle of console baseball gaming IMO. And I can’t wait to at least play it on a PS5 in 18 or so months from now.

You kind of go through this every year bud. Usually, I call you out on it and after news gets released, you wind up going, "OMG...I'm getting it" and have a ball.

I'll be frank; this year...I feel ya. I will say, I DID pre-order the game but it was moreso because I really have fun playing diamond dynasty (even though I often complain about aspects of it, lol). As for franchise mode, I'm really apprehensive (one option for me as that I may just do DD on 21 and franchise on 20).

I really think the existing franchise mode strikes a beautiful balance between playability and depth. But it was clearly best for those of us that wanted the "play every game" experience. For folks that were focused on simming a bunch of seasons (or obsessed with...giggle..."realism"); there just wasn't a lot for them to do...because SO much of the franchise experience is within the games and the stories that they tell; not in the menu screens.

SDS can go down a ton of different paths with their vision - and this is where my apprehension lies. They shift the focus of the mode to the menus (a la 2k), ugh. They over-simplify (a la Madden), ugh (albeit, I like that option way better than the 2k mimicry). My number one question is if they can keep a balance that can make playing every game (for us diehards) as enjoyable as simming games (for the casuals)?

We might be playing MLB20 a very long time...or, they may create something even better that we quickly embrace. But just by the virtue of us knowing that there is some sort of an "overhaul" adds FAR more uncertainty with the mode than ever before (and thus the source of that 'bad' gut feeling I think many of us have right now).

As for the new "gameplay options"...I said this in another thread, but I'm not as worried. This isn't a heavy AI/animation-driven game (like Madden). There are likely to be three major aspects to a "competitive setting":

            1. More reliance on perfect input on meters and PCIs (which can be done now with sliders) vs randomness.
            2. Fewer "pretty" defensive animations in favor of more 'functional' defensive movement. (this is the area most likely to observe inadvertent 'spillage' between "modes")
            3. Lots of whining to the point where number 1 will eventually get tuned to be ridiculously easy.

I think that, for the most part, for us "we want ratings/user smarts to matter" guys, I think we'll be given the ability to continue playing the game that way within franchise (though I am fearful this may be taken away for offline DD modes).
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

I totally agree. I get that a lot of revenue for all the sports games comes from the influencers that help promote the games, but it's like they forget, or maybe don't even watch real life Sports.

2K, I have a wide open, take my time three, I should sink it every time. That doesn't happen in the NBA.

Madden, wide open receiver down the field, that should be an easy TD every time. Know how many times a QB can sail a throw too far for a wide open TD? Or a defender completely blow his coverage to leave a guy wide open?

The Show, I hit perfect/perfect on the ball, that should be a big hit or HR every time. MLB that "perfect hit" may end up at the warning track.

Those gamers forget that even if you do something perfect in real life, the result might not be what you expect.

That's my biggest aspect of Simulation, not getting the results you expect and missing that opportunity, especially if it costs you the game. Stick skills should be left for shooters.

It's my biggest reason I haven't been in a Madden league in almost 2 years. Even on Simulation play, every game came down to who was basically the better User at LB to cover the field and I hated it. You don't see a LB running around in circles to cover the field on Sundays.

What's always bothered be isn't the end result, but when I line up something perfectly and it just results in a weak popup or a weak chopper.

I've always believed in a balance between the dreaded "stick skills" and simulation attributes. Because, at the end of the day, if perfectly lining something up results in a weak off the bat result like that, why am I even bothering to play the game? What purpose am I providing as a player? Going too far into simulation ruins the experience, making my contributions to the game a non-factor and ruining the fun of even playing.

I don't think you're referring to people like me though. I'm totally ok with my perfect input being an attem bomb and a quick out. That's baseball. I'm great with the idea that achieving good or perfect inputs should be harder with weaker players. And I understand that sometimes a "good" input should still result in a weak popup or a missed pitch, even with superstars, for the sake of realism.

My point is, it is possible to go to far in the simulation direction too (unless you're a MoM or sim only player).

I think The Show really struck a grest balance between 16-20. Prior to 16 hitting could be unforgiving.

20 for me has been the pinnacle of not only having great balance and having ratings matter, but the sheer hit variety and ball physics going to their highest level since it was introduced on MLB 12.

I’m in the same boat with 20 man this game play is the best ever this is the best sports game out there. I definitely won’t be getting 21 until I get my ps5.

When I get the ps5 I will get 21 just to see how much better the gameplay will be. Not having year to year sucks and I probably will play my Braves franchise on 20 on the ps5 and pray year to year saves come back. I freaking love the team I have on 20 after making a few trades last year. If the game play on 21 on the ps5 blows me away than I will just have to start over.

I am usually a pretty optimistic guy so I will stay positive about franchise mode improvements but like Armor says I worry about them messing up the sim style baseball for the online babies. Us old men lol are not cared about anymore but we have each other. Lol

as expected a 1-0 game between mets and Nats De Grom got taken out after 5 innings was over 100 pitches but ended up with the loss with this and mad max with 13 strikeouts unstoppable! the only run came from a manufactured run

I started a new franchise with the Blue Jays today using these sliders with 2021 rosters and man am I back to having fun with this game. Only thing that sucks is game 8 of the season against the Yankees, George Springer broke his hand sliding into home and is out for 1-2 Months .

I’m with the others here. I will not be buying 21 until I get my hands on a PS5. I feel like 20 can be played out for at least another year.

Only thing that sucks is game 8 of the season against the Yankees, George Springer broke his hand sliding into home and is out for 1-2 Months .

I’m with the others here. I will not be buying 21 until I get my hands on a PS5. I feel like 20 can be played out for at least another year.

                          Great to hear!

Agree 100% on sticking with MLB 20. It is sad as I always loved this time of the year getting ready for a new version of MLB The Show and carrying my franchises forward.

Not this year. And word is the so called revamp on franchise...not all the features will be available for the PS4 version.

So what is the point of getting the PS4 version of the game? When you can’t even continue what you started 1000’s of hours ago anyway.

For those on PS5 already....I can totally see picking up the latest to check out all the )hopefully) improved features of franchise and gameplay it has to offer.

I will be getting a PS5 most likely Christmas 2022. By then the disc version should be in far more supply and I predict at least a $100-$150 price decrease. Time will tell.

Easy pass this year. And that is OK. Hopefully this will all be worth it long term. And if it goes in the direction we don’t want it to go in....we will always have not only MLB 20 to play....but some of the other outstanding versions of the games. In particular MLB 14 and 16 which were excellent games and still have Season Mode!!! So you can play shorter seasons with classic rosters. That is something I have thought about doing in the future. Going back and installing 14 and 16 just to run season mode with all the fantastic rosters I have for them.

It will be very weird not coming on here waiting for your new slider set. I sure hope the PS5's are easier in the next couple of months. After striking out the last month on the drops, it feels like I'll be getting one in 2022 as well when I planned on getting one now LOL.

Armor.....is the sky falling? Lmao sorry brother I had to do it!!! That particular comment in the 21 announcement is the type comments that keep me out of the main forum.

I’m totally out for ‘21 as well after reading the no y2y saves. Wasn’t planning on getting it until later anyway.

I don’t mind though. I’m sitting at my desk and work daydreaming about getting home and playing The Show 20.......ALMOST A YEAR AFTET RELEASE!!! A great game to say the least. Calling for snow tomorrow and tomorrow night, so I will be happy living in my game world in the month of may while the snow is flying outside.

You know what may really stink now that the Show will be on Xbox, usually the Show is a free PS+ game at some point. Wonder if now 21 won't be free at some point.
