Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Sliders - Operation Sports Forums

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you all know OS now has an official Discord that you can join right now. We’ve kicked around Discords for individual games in the past, but it felt like the right time to make it more of an official thing.

Steve and I have wanted to get this going for a bit because we obviously still hear from y’all who are unhappy with some stuff on the forums, plus when there are forum outages we still want to have a place for everyone to hang. My overarching goal for the longer term is to have both Discord and the forums ultimately work together. There are some logistical issues with the vBulletin forums that don’t allow things to sync right with Discord so there will be a little maneuvering as we try to get mods and forum members any proper roles/tags they need on the Discord, but we can work through that stuff easily enough as people join.

Our general goal is to give people more options to interact with OS community members, whether that’s Discord, the forums, this newsletter, or improved apps. If people want to stick more to the forums, that’s cool. If people want to stick more to the Discord, that’s also cool. In my perfect world, we do a lot of BSing and day-to-day chatting on the Discord about games and sports, and then more of the “in-depth” discussions or hefty things like long slider breakdowns or analysis of gameplay end up on the forums so that can act as a sort of “best of” area for anything OS community related. That said, you all will ultimately shape how the ecosystem shakes out, I just want to give you spaces you like so you can have a good time with other folks in the community.

The same general rules will apply on the Discord as they do on the forums, and we’ve brought most of the forum categories to the Discord as well so there should not be too much confusion as you navigate around.

With the Operation Sports and Discord announcement now out there, it’s also worth mentioning our OS premium newsletter, which quietly launched a couple of weeks ago. Built off the Not Just Another Roster Update newsletter, it offers a mix of retrospectives, guides, interviews and deeper dives into the sports gaming world—covering both current and classic titles.

Very early impressions.. playing as White Sox with Armors settings (except fish eye, I use MLB 15 for batting) and sliders from last year:

Screen won't be as clean this year - can't seem to remove pitch speed and type info after each pitch? Sure I haven't skipped a setting, though please post how if you manage to remove them!

Pressing R3 has changed - it now does the same thing when batting or pitching - it displays a general field view with player stats. When pitching, R3 used to show previous pitches. Now, both previous pitches and pitch recommends are covered by R2.

Also seems easier to read pitches, I reckon pitch speeds may be nudged up in the final set.

Bat on ball sounds are fantastic.

So after two games this morning my early impressions are that 20 feels exactly the same as 19. I didnt see one thing yet with animation during gameplay any different from 19. And they didnt change one thing with the commentary. Now ofcourse this is only two games and as I play more we will see some different things. Fingers crossed.

The different things are the score bug gives alot of cool info but it sucks only having 2 themes. Hitting felt pretty good I think the pitch speed might be a little slower and offspeed pitches are easier to pick up. But was still very challenging on Hof.

Pitching felt the same but definitely was easier to strike out the CPU on default.

Nothing has changed in the franchise screens all the same. Same old trade hub. Some were interested in that.

The roster are definitely deeper and have minor league guys witch is cool for us guys starting a new franchise.

When playing broadcast type games the replays still come up on there own except for the batting order and defensive lineups you have to use the replay prop button which is L2 to see those.

And finally after every pitch the pitch type and pitch speed automatically pop up on the screen. Definitely not a total clean screen approach.

Overall not overly impressed but only two games and you all know in love the show. So I wont bash this game to hard. It still is a amazing game and I'm sure as we play more we will have those wow moments. I'm excited to play all weekend and here everyones feed back.

It is these type of design decisions that are mind boggling to me. It is a serious WTF type of thing for me.

Well.....let’s see how this game plays. And after a lot of games we will see where we are and how we approach 20 (online league, MTO, RTTS only type of year on 20)

I still have 19 fully installed. (Franchise and classic rosters only).

Time will tell. Because clean screen is vital to my enjoyment of The Show. I hope I can get over this eye sore of the pitch speed and type popping up on my screen.

It’s doubly annoying as the info provided is also useless. I know the pitch type, you know, having just selected it two seconds earlier... I’m not optimistic about it being patched out either.

I’m not keen on the R3 changes either, but that’s a minor niggle compared to the above.

Only got to play one game last night. Carried over my franchise that’s in 2027 spring training. The Show theme is great during the game it highlighted some players career numbers and the one cool thing it showed is how long they’ve been in the league along with the teams they played for. Also a couple nice little touches we can now change the colors of the catchers mask and the color of the logo’s on the bat.

So after playing a couple more games I'm starting to see some pretty cool things that are different. The sound in this years game is really nice. Game is starting to feel nice.

I'm getting used to the stupid pitch marker after every pitch. Atleast its only on there for a second.

Default gameplay is pretty good. I'm ready to get my franchise going. I think I'm about to get it started and play on default until Armor gets things ironed out.
