For those who have made the move (or partial move) to 21 and are playing Armor’s clean screen...

Am I the only one who cannot see my pitcher’s stamina on the mound? Last year it was left on the D pad (or right, I’m not sure) to see my pitcher’s stamina, this year, nothing on the D pad or in the menu displays it.

Only way to see it is to call a mound visit, while using Classic Pitching

Interested if anyone has faced this, another thing to fix for 21.

Yea hopefully this is a bug. I go to the substitution screen. It'll show your pitchers energy on tha top right

I consider this a feature honestly. I noticed it in the Tech Test and LOVED this. You HAVE to be able to gauge your pitcher for yourself vs just letting a little meter tell you what to do.

Glad you got to try 21 fully Armor and definitely like your assessment of it. Everything I have read, all the positives for 21 still don't justify me wanting to get it.

I always like the new and fresh game, especially for sports games. But with everything that is missing in NexGen 21, it's not worth it. And I'm not getting PS4 21 just for updated rosters, no thanks.

Gameplay videos, streams I've watched of 21, I just don't see the value. Sure it may look slightly better than 20, but the downsides, especially no SOTS, I just can't do it.

Really wish 21 Nexgen didn't lose SOTS. If for some reason they can ever patch it in(Doubt it 100%) I would think of getting it.

Oh well, at least 20 on PS5 is basically near a masterpiece.

In the back of my head, I was thinking the same as you Josh. Forces you to take a more realistic approach and read what your pitcher is actually doing, and how he’s pitching.

Could be a good thing, in that case! Thanks for chiming in.

May I ask, what version of the game are you playing and on what console?

I do have 21 and I agree with most of it. One thing so many have ignored and nobody saying anything, But I will.

Like you mentioned on the score bug the color them looks so much better. So on 21 you go in a play now game the displays and logos look old not flashy, glossy or anything like 20 had.

Then if you compare visuals from 21 back to 20 the calendar screens were way better looking on 20 than the way 21 looks. I own a PS5 and XBOX Series X and these graphics on these displays is 3 steps back.

Don't get me wrong I like the game play on 21 , the dirt improvements, stadiums and Face scans, but displays are a head scratcher what were they thinking?

The removal of Y2Y and SOTS reminds me of February 2018 when I had watched every little stream and tournament as I always do looking for any clues about online franchise because they half to be so damn secretive to come to find out not 1 word was mentioned until after the streams and tournaments were over that online franchise was gone.

I know exactly how you guys feel I only play online and leagues been my thing since 2007 when they took that away in 2018, 2019 it didn't return but my dumb a$$ watched every stream to be let down, then in 20 same routine to be excited about "custom leagues" to once again waste a year trying to make that work like a old online franchise. There's nothing "CUSTOM" about custom leagues. You can't upload your own custom roster and u surely can't edit or customize anything.

So here we are and on MLB 21 custom leagues are the same exact way as 20 and not 1 word in the 21 streams about leagues and now I see why. They didn't promote or market leagues at all.

Sure they move the DH to the left side of screen and instead of a 5 man bench you now have 4 so we can have a 8 man bullpen now [emoji849]!!

Don't even get me started on adding game to XBOX and expect those online guys and us Playstation guys to play on the same servers we had for the last 10 years?

So I was able to put in a little over 2 hours (2 full games in franchise mode) into 21 last night at a close friends house. I also played the tech test a ton. Which was virtually the same as the retail copy BTW gameplay wise.

As expected gameplay has taken another positive step overall. And I fully expected nothing less. But that is where it started and ended for me.

Why?

It was not an OMG.....I can’t play 20 anymore kinda thing. Not even close. And it is all the other factors that simply kill any desire for me to move on from everything we have on MLB 20.

The bat sounds.....are terrible. They should have left it alone. 20 is perfect.

The score bug colors.....should have left that alone. Way too slick for my taste as I love the team colors on 20’s score bug.

Road to the Show which I went into for a few minutes just to see the fuss....yeah it was butchered and I can see why hardcore RTTS players are up in arms and flipping out.

In no way would I give up all the content and 1000’s of game hours in my various franchises to move to 21.

Its crazy....even if 21 had Y2Y......I would have been letdown. Presentation has received almost zero attention.....and losing SOTS? DEAL BREAKER. Coupled with Y2Y gone? It was a haymaker.

I am going to need to be absolutely floored by any future iteration to ever stop playing MLB 20. I can’t believe it.....but the day came.

So.....I completely get it if others have moved on to 21.....everyone has their own opinions and likes. But it is simply not my game.

We lost too much and gained really.....nothing. To say goodbye to 20 and the content and more importantly various amazing baseball universes I have been able to be a part of and evolve over the years with Y2Y. So here we stay.....for as long as we keep having a blast.

Will I ever get another new version of the Show? For the first time in 15 years....I have no clue. I think the release was handled poorly. I think the game has truly gone in a new direction with the move to the other console. And I think the developers have moved on from franchise mode and putting any concrete effort into it that can make up for losing SOTS and Y2Y.

What is funny is a lot of players never used Y2Y or SOTS......so they truly do not know the impact to this “niche” group. I can’t stand seeing posts like “Well I never used it it does not matter” Hey maybe not to you but it did to us....and I have no problem with those that never used the features....but the poo poo posting on us and calling out as whiners or whatever they want to call it.....F that.

So I promise.....last time I will discuss this topic. It will be all about MLB 20 only in this thread.

And I will also be retiring the classic roster thread in terms of updating it moving forward for MLB 21 as I will not be on that title at all. If someone wants to start a new classic roster thread to keep track of rosters for 21 and beyond.....have at it. I will continue to stay in that thread to discuss rosters that will continue to be made for MLB 20. Because my hunch is they will until those servers shut down (expect that in 2024 probably).

Anybody know if you can get 2021 rosters on '20 with updated contracts? Every 21 roster i've downloaded to play on 20 has good rosters but still the old contracts.

Armor, I’m back on 20, at least for the time being. I cannot believe it but last night I found my franchise from last year. So I’m just picking back up where I left off. I have around 50 games left in the 2020 season.

I do have some questions though about optimizing the game on PlayStation 5. I noticed in one of the in-game video monies that it has options for game resolution and they are faster (1080p), balanced (1440p), and sharper (2160p). I have a 4K TV so I’m assuming I need to run it at Sharper. Also, what about HDR? On or off and are there any other adjustments I need to make in regards to visual optimization.

I’m glad to be back on 20 and I’ve got al my old menu music pumping, 39 songs, gone with the junk that ships with the game.

Just got notification the PS5 bundle I very unexpectedly scored this week from Costco of all places has shipped and should arrive by Wednesday! Cannot wait to join the ranks of ‘20 (with my ‘19 carryover) on the PS5!

May depend on your TV for HDR, or your preference, whether you like it better Off or On.

As far as the visual setting, definitely go Sharper(4K). 20 barely has any hiccups or drops doing 4K at 60fps. Change to Sharper and never look back, game plays so smooth.

I’ve played a few games of 20 and yeah, it runs really nicely. I do keep hopping back between 20 and 21 though. Haha. I can’t make my mind up for sure but I’m definitely not starting a legitimate franchise until the full minors rosters drop for 21.

I thought 21 played a great game of baseball.

However it is a shallow and hollow release. I have nothing there. My franchises are on 20, my immersion is on 20. My features (SOTS now in particular) are on 20.

I can live without a slight bump in gameplay....because a modern day franchise would be unfulfilling for me personally.

We were cut at the knees not being able to bring over everything. And we got jack for it.

No expanded rosters, no real franchise upgrades to brag about and RTTS was absolutely gutted.

So as a gamer it is completely about what is most important to you and what will be the most fun for “you”.

My choice was easy and I am feeling like I missing nothing.

This by far was one of if not the worst releases they have had or could have asked for. On top of the features being taken away with no reason or explanation, the game came out with serious bugs (SOTS, roster vault, RTTS, servers) and they didn’t even have one update yet. I checked last year (when 20 came out of the box with less issues) we had 2 updates by 3 days after general release.

I know SDS probably has things going on that were out of their control with Covid, the new Xbox, next generation consoles. But the worse thing is their silence.

Obviously, I think they had too much on their plate this year for this release. And some of it was probably forced on their plate. Something should have been tabled until next year. Especially with the pandemic.

In all honesty, the most depressing thing by far for me is what franchise could be now if they spent the last 10 years developing the mode instead of Diamond Dynasty.

Flushed out drafting, international signings, video highlights from other games (a highlight show instead of the stupid audio snippet. Team jerseys for All-Star games, and on, and on, and on.

Franchise mode would be so amazing if they spent 95% of their development time on it the way they do with Diamond Dynasty.
