I like to think about it in a positive light. The only direction you can go with that franchise is up!

Hahahaha.... I hear ya, but wow it seems like it could take forever to get there. Do you play as the Buccos? If so, how are you doing with it?

No but it is a true challenge as a GM. You need to have patience and draft well.

I assume you play every pitch every inning?

I don't use the real life Pirates in my franchise, so I can't speak to the difficulty of running that team. I think it would be a ton of fun to build them from the ground up over the course of several seasons, though that's just me.

Anyone else try playing a franchise with the Pittsburgh Pirates? I'm in year one using the Brinskee roster and it's absolute torture lol. This team has so many needs... This is the challenge of a lifetime. The problem I'm having is I'm seriously wondering if I have the mental patience to endure this. I'm seriously considering switching to another small market team with a better farm system, The Tampa Bay Rays perhaps. Any advice?

I tried it. Played 40 games or so and got my head handed to me. Pitching was terrible . I am ashamed to say I scrapped that franchise

Nothing to be ashamed of... Life is too short hahaha. I'm about 40 games in myself. I'm near the bottom in every hitting category and around 20th in pitching categories. The bullpen is basically a bunch of mop up guys. When I'm lucky enough to have a lead it's almost impossible to hold it. It's going to take several seasons to turn this ship around, which is why I'm now asking myself if I have the mental discipline to handle it lol...

Appreciate that Jcar. Was kinda but not sorta taken aback by that....lol. My main goal has always been to provide inspiration to those playing this game to enjoy it to the fullest.

And MLB 20 is without a doubt my all time favorite sports game. Not even a debate.

Just because I happen to really feel strongly that the game took many steps backwards in certain areas does not mean I don’t love the game.

It just so happens we are simply sticking with what gives us joy. Not frustration. And if someone is going to take offense because I happen to think a game is not up to the high standards the series has established....so be it and take care.

But I think 20 has a legion of players who have not “moved on” because they find tremendous value in the investment they have made into their long running franchises, classic rosters etc. I have literally 1000’s of hours of real playing time invested in various franchises and the insane amount of man hours in the dozens of rosters we have? Walk away from that for slightly improved gameplay? And it is slight not some revelation. And in some areas (sounds, check swings cough cough, color landscapes, score bug design, UI) it has gone backwards IMO. Give up all the joy I have for what is I feel not even a true next gen upgrade? Hell freaking no.

I have never been a player who has to have the latest rosters with The Show and after playing 21 and knowing what I know if Y2Y and SOTS were not taken out.....I would still be right here. With BRinskies 2021 updated roster for MLB 20 you have a superior full minors roster on 20....again my opinion...but it blows anything that has been released for 21 out of the water roster wise. It is also no secret I simply was not pining for a stadium creator. Everyone has their wants....they did not check off any of the boxes for me on next gen with 21. They actually took away more than added.

Anyway enough of that....Yankees Year 5 (streaming live right now as a matter of fact) and the Fantasy SF Giants roll on and also so much more as we go on in 2021!!!

Today we will be playing game three of a 3 game series vs The Red Sox (going for a huge sweep and sole possession of 1st place in the A.L East at the All-Star Break).

We will play the All-Star game (always a treat) as the Yankees have several potential starters:

Bryce Harper
Greg Bird
Gary Sanchez
Ardolis Chapman (#1 closer)

Then we will have a massive mid season report on the Yankees as well as go around the league with standings, a few trades, the trade deadline Hot Stove report and league leaders.

It has been a great Year 5 thus far. A lot of great storylines for several players on the Bombers!! I look forward to typing it all up for your reading pleasure.

Then we embark on a massive 11 game road swing to start the second half campaign!

Hard to believe we are already in mid July playing every pitch, every inning!

The Yankees are heavy favorites to repeat as AL Champions and defend their 2020 World Series title, trying to win their 3rd in 5 season!!!

Armor, what are your thoughts on budgets being off or on? What do you have yours on? And, if you were starting over, what would you do?

I know when you have budgets on that it sometimes don’t let you make realistic trades cause they don’t have the budget. But during the offseason, I want the CPU to sign their own players. If I do budgets off, does teams generally try to stay under the luxury tax?

I have always played with them on. Overall it works and makes you think about contracts and moves looking out into the future. The CPU will resign players and I also house rule with a random number method in the off-season resign period. 0-33 the player will test free agency. 34-100 I make sure they resign and will step in of I have too.

I run these numbers for their starters only. And starting rotation and closer and set up guys.

It works nice. We get some good storylines with potential free agent’s and trades in the winter meetings.

Question for anyone who has changed roles for their bullpen guys. My closing pitcher is having a terrible season, so I want to take him out of that role and begin giving a setup guy the save opportunities. Do you edit the CP and change him to a RP and vice versa and swap them in their respective slots, or do you just simply use them however you see fit without officialy editing their roles or changing their slot in the bullpen?
