Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
Slider Testing Update
So we have played our first month in our Yankees Year 4. For those that have followed the streams we have had a great first month with a hot start, then a plunge, then a sweep on the road in Toronto (after dropping 6 of 9 on a big homestead) to again come back home and lose to the upstart first place Pirates.
The variety has been incredible. The highs, the lows, the great pitching in the fist 10 games to the absolute horror show it had become on the home stand vs the Reds, Indians and Tigers. Then we go on the road clinging to a 1 game lead over the Red Sox and 1.5 game lead on the Jays.....we get our number 3 4 and 5 starters and they all pitch great to help lead the Yankees to a critical 3 game road sweep.
This is what the game is all about. The drama of the twists and turns of a 162 game season.
With all that being said I am still evaluating a few things.
CPU pitching and Human Pitching - HOF is tough. Let’s not beat around the bush. Classic pitching on HOF is hard. If you miss spots you will be punished. My pitching staff has been taken deep almost more than any other in the league. That is after 1 month. That is also on me to a high degree. I had been challenging hitters probably a little more than I should. And they have made me pay. On the other side of the coin the CPU pitchers have been punished by my bats. But I have a stud filled lineup. We are supposed to crush the ball. Flip that over to the Marlins Franchise I also have been playing and it is a complete 180. My hitting is brutal. I mean to produce runs with that team.....it is futile exercise. So my conclusion right now on Human and CPU pitching is.....I want another month between the Yankees and Marlins franchises to evaluate it before I would even consider making a consistency change to 6 for both the CPU/HUM.
Hit Variety - It has been nothing short of magnificent. Hitting on HOF.....again it is not easy. Pitchers are smarter. Bottom line is the can nibble far better, mix their pitches better and will exploit you if you are chasing or struggling with certain pitches. At the same time I am in year 4 in my Yankees franchise.....that is a universe that has evolved now from MLBTS 17 to now 20. In my fictional Twins and fresh Marlins franchise hitting has been far different than my Yankees franchise. And by me playing 3 different franchises.....I am getting a great sample canvas. It allows me to be very objective to where I think it is at and if any changes need to be made. I want one more month to consider a move down for solid hits to 4 for both the CPU and Human.
My sliders sets of the past typically have had solid hits down at 4 (and 3 for the CPU last year) but this year......hitting is different. And in a very positive way. The new perfect perfect system has felt amazing. I do not want to disrupt it at this point because again....speaking personally I am getting a ton of hit variety. Liners, gap shots, down the line into the corners, duck farts, choppers, bloopers, bleeders, rising line drives. It has been amazing. On the HR front, majestic bombs, line shots, moon shots, wall scrapers, upper deckers.....the full monty.
Everyones experience is going to be different. Why? Skill level first and foremost. But then you have...what team you play with primarily, NL or AL, what division, what pitchers you use and see the most etc etc etc etc.
I am also going to say this. If you are going to be OCD about stats.....you will never fully enjoy this game. Ever. Sorry but at the end of the day it is a video game and while I love stats as much as the next baseball junkie, I will not let it dictate my experience, my franchise nor my universe and how it unfolds. This is a RPG. A sports RPG. Embrace how your universe unfolds. Do not let legacy issues deter you. Legacy issues are you most likely will lead the league in hitting into double plays or be near the top of that. You will most likely lead the league in least amount of walks issued or be near the top of that. This has been the last 15 years.....and 2020 is no different. Just let it go.
I have really taken a restrained approach this cycle with slider changes....the most restraint I have ever had. Hell JoshC has made more changes than me at this point......and he never makes changes!!! (LOL we were laughing about this the other day on a stream).
But he plays on All-Star......I don’t. Totally different world on All-Star. I can easily see why those changes have been made. All-Star plus is what he is aiming for IMO. That is what I aimed for on 15 and 16. Before 15 and 16 I was a hybrid player with veteran hitting and all star pitching! So my skill in this game has evolved all the way to HOF (and I am staying here the 50 year old’s eyes are handling all I can here).
I am simply feeling HOF, if you keep playing and playing and playing, you are going to see the variety, the drama, the roller coaster of a long competitive season. Battling through slumps both hitting and pitching and enjoying the runs of success as well.
So one more month everyone. One more month of games between Yankees Year 4, Fictional Twins Year 1 and Marlins Year 1, will give me all the sample size I need to make any needed.....or unneeded changes to finalize the set.
On another note......I have also been playing some classic baseball with 1990, 1987 and 1961 and our classic HOF set is working like a dream. It is uploaded in the Vault for those that use classic rosters a lot like yours truly.

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
I guess with extra time on my hands, I've gotten a little adventurous by deciding to move up to HOF after all these years on All-Star. Big mistake thinking I could take the Orioles to prominence,So yes, A.S., HOF is not forgiving at all. You can live on the black but if you're not mixing pitches, speed, location you will be embarrassed mightily.
I am seeking therapy today after the 15-0 shellacking at the hands of the Yankees last night. Means was throwing well and down just 2-0 when bonehead me caused an error that led to 3 unearned runs...from there on it was like being in a nightmare where you never wake up.
BTW, Garrett Cole threw a no-hitter against me (swear to God the first time this has ever happened to me). But, I am not deterred, I will back out there todayComment

The main reason I responded is because I wanted to chime-in to say this. I know many of you peruse many of the different slider threads. Many of you are still settling into what makes you happy. But PLEASE I want to urge caution - do NOT arbitrarily cross-pollinate slider setups! Don't say, "well I like this from Set A and want to add it to Set B". First try the setups exactly as described (with pitch speeds being the notable exception); get a feel for how everything fits together. Then, if you want to try out other personal tweaks, do so in a controlled manner (one change and one click at a time). Trust me on this...the line between "just tinkering" and "full-blown slideritis" is very thin.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Hey Armor, I’m contemplating moving over to classic pitching but I’m curious about progression. If results are more RNG based do you see much progression with your user pitchers? Or does a say 67 rated pitcher more or less always perform as a 67 rated pitcher.
With user input having a little less effect do you still have breakout performances.
I feel like the user still has so much influence with directional hitting and therefore we can have success with lower rated hitters.
I’m just concerned with classic pitching bad pitchers will always perform poorly.

Re: Armor & Swords MLB The Show 20 Classic/Directional Clean Screen Simulation Slider
Things have turned dramatically for me. I am 2-5 over my last 7 and I can't get anyone out. I'm giving up an insane amount of hits. The past six games I've given up 15, 12, 13, 10, 8 and 13 hits. My bats have gone cold as well and I'm just unable to put across many runs, seems like I'm playing from behind from the first or second inning every game.Comment

The rating is the "target value", the various sliders, gameplay engine, franchise factors (like streaks, confidence, fatigue) and so on help to dictate the range from that target value. So, just because a guy pitches is a 67, doesn't mean he performs like one all the time. It is also subject to how well you know him and his stuff (and how well you manage his arm velocity via the button press mechanic).
So yes, a 67 will out-perform and under-perform his rating. A LOT depends on the individual ratings that make up that 67 OVR.
As a side note, the devs have stated that even for meter/analog, the pitcher's ratings STILL drive a lot of the outcomes, even if you hit the meter perfectly (hitting it perfectly just helps more).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

This might not be exactly how it works, but this is how I look at it.

Thanks for the input. I love to find hidden gems who outperform their ratings. Gives me a real feeling of success to find gold in c and d potential low rated players.[emoji1303]

Only one game played, but so far so good. 1st game of the 1st series against the Braves and it felt like a playoff game. A few lead changes happened until I was able to take advantage of their pen and pull away in the 8th.Comment

I make everything on photoshop. I’m always happy to share them if anyone wants to take them, alter them and make them their own. Some knowledge of working photoshop is required to do so, obviously, but I learned everything though trial and error. With YouTube now it’s much easier to learn how to work photoshop.

Haha! No doubt. My pitching ERA’s are so bad. I’m giving up an absolutely insane amount of hits.
