Two things to bear in mind across rosters that I think a lot of folks gloss over a bit.

1. Player vision ratings. They matter a ton with directional. It's easy to look just at contact/power, but vision is also vital in getting good wood on the ball.

2. Hot/cold zones. I can go on for hours about the importance of hot/cold zones in this game. When players have neutral or cold hot zones, even a highly rated hitter will often feel like he's swinging a wet noodle. When players have red (especially bright red) hot zones, even with meh ratings, they will crush pitches if you get them with good timing. This is where most historical rosters fall apart. Compare the hot zones of 10-15 top hitters in a historical roster and compare them to the top hitters with a 2020 roster. I'll tell you what you find...historical rosters will have pretty much neutral or worse hot zones across the board and the 2020 will have a ton of players with flaming bright red hot zones. This is a "secret sauce" that really changes a lot of players (I'll be honest, I'll take a player with 70/50 contact/power with red hot zones over a 90/80 player with neutral (or worse) hot zones). Sadly, they're not editable but they really make a huge difference.

Not trying to get too far off topic here but in a franchise, these hot zones change correct? And is it correlated with actual performance?

Nice analysis and put into words what I feel like I experience. It sure makes for a different experience which is what it is suppose to do. With that 73 set, one will not smash the ball all over the place. You have to manufacture runs much like that style of game was at that time. It's a beautiful thing.

One more adjustment to my “Classic Roster” slider adjustments on the OP.

Move Human/CPU Power to default 5

Power on 4 is for modern day rosters which calmed down th HR numbers for me personally.

Power on 4 for classic rosters is over compensating.

So I have been using Fisheye since they introduced it on 17.

Having a conversation last night on a my stream (1993 KC at White Sox) it was suggested by Dowie to check out the “wide” camera while hitting.

So I said screw it....why not? Big Hurt is up and I promptly hit a towering moon shot off Kevin Appier!!!

I did have to turn up the pitch speeds to 8/7 respectively as the ball does look fatter!!!

The view is as if you are playing catcher. So I found it even easier to lay off the high ones.

I am going to now roll with Wide as this is a refreshing change and makes the game actually feel brand new at the plate.

Fisheye is ana amazing view but I want to tackle a new hitting view to change things up!

Happy that you liked the recommendation. This hitting set up (along with your sliders etc.) have worked for me for 2+ years now. Credit really goes to CountyBoy for recommending that wide view. I look forward to more of your streams....just excellent stuff!

As soon as Jethro and Jim drop version 2 of their glorious 1993 full minors we will be getting head deep into our planned multi season Yankees/Marlins franchise.

I will be running 30 team control as always, but I will be turning on scouting to auto for this franchise run. I want to focus on playing games, and minor league development.

This will not be a “every inning every pitch” but make no mistake we will probably end up playing 162 total between the Yanks and Marlins.

I will mix in some minor league games (included in that 162 game a season total between the two teams) to ha e some fun with a lot of the great prospects in the Yankees system and some in the Marlins as they are drafted.

This will be a fantastic franchise folks. If you love 1990’s era baseball this is your wheelhouse.

I will be streaming a ton of these games as always.

Next Spring we will see what MLB 21 has to offer on the PS4 and decide if we move to it at release or not before resuming The 2017 Yankees Year 5!!!

We made 2 small but impactful changes to our slider set as we have started our 1993 Yankees/Marlins Franchise run!


We have changed our hitting view from Fish Eye to:

Wide (camera view)

It is like a new game. It is definitely different. It is a lower camera and you do not see the 1st and 3rd base lines like Fish Eye. I really am enjoying it as it is a more in the box feel from the catchers perspective and I am seeing the ball much better. So much so I made this change as well to pitch speeds:

Fastball 9
Off Speed 8

LOVE IT!!!!

It is like a brand new game!!

I know the feel you are describing.

Respectfully, I don't think it's about "getting better". My regular Reds franchise did not net the results I get with especially the 1973 set with which I was playing. I have no quantitative data to prove the whiffle ball bat effect, it's just a feel...a very frustrating feel.

Cool stuff Armor. A few months back I switched from Strike Zone 3 to fisheye and it became a brand new game.

I would use the classic roster adjustments to the base set I have posted on the OP.

And yes these work excellent with classic rosters with th adjustments I have posted for classic rosters.
