To pair with my roster, I do a series of edits. I released my edits a few years ago but those have not become outdated. Morale being removed from having an impact on overall had a bigger impact than I initially thought it would last year. So I spent some time testing these edits on 21 and have perfected them with 22.

The edits fall into 3 categories. Those are potential, ratings, and age edits. These are what I would call essential edits. I will detail these.

There are also some non essential edits. Things like Height, weight, appearance, and secondary positions. I will touch base on what I do, but these are optional.

So I am going to detail the steps here so everyone can be on the same page as this.

    1. The first step happens the day after the draft in June. Take a picture (I use my tablet) of each of the 30 teams draft picks. This gets you the complete list easily.

    2. The rest of these occur the first day of the offseason.

    3. A few things to keep in mind before we start:

    a. We want a 10/25/50/15 A/B/C/D potential ratio to keep our roster balanced.

    b. A team will only have a max of 98 players after the season before having to trim to 93. This means that usually the top 5 or 6 picks at most get added to a given team. The rest will go into free agency.

    c. These numbers are based on an estimated 200 prospects drafted.

    4. We need to make sure next there are no more than 20 A potential and 50 B potential prospects across the entire draft. If there is less, no changes here. If potential needs changed, it drops to 76, the league average rating. All 30 teams must also have 1 D potential prospect. If there is not one, the lowest potential signed one get lowered to 68. Irregardless of round taken. We need those fillers in our system.

    5. Any RP with potential over 90 needs potential lowered to 88. Or changed to a CP. Either is ok.

    6. CP max potential is 92. Any over this, lower the potential to 92.

    7. Age edits. Ok this is a big one and a bit confusing so I will break it down in steps.

    a. For prospects with potential over 80: Age gets dropped to 18 years old if overall is 64 or less. If overall is 65-69, age gets dropped to 19. If 70 plus, age gets dropped to 20. If their age is under the age limit, it stays. (A 19 yo 72B prospect age stays).

    b. For any C potential player over 21, there age is dropped to 21. The same goes for D potential prospects over 21.

    c. Max age of any prospects is 21 at the end of the day no matter the potential.

    8. Now ratings editing. This is another multi step thing to keep balance as the game generated prospects frankly is sub par.

    a. The minimum overall for any A or B prospect is 55. Any prospect under 55 needs to raised to 55 overall through ratings edits. Usually increasing all hitting and fielding attributes by 1 will raise overall by 1. Varies some by position though.

    b. Any C prospect has to have a minimum overall of 50 and raised if they are under.

    c. For D prospects, you may raise if you want but since they are perpetual MiLB depth I don't.

    d. For most RF and LF the game gives all the prospects ridiculous high speed and steal and low power. I set a max that no RF or LF can have a speed/steal/BR aggressiveness no higher than 60. I take some points and add it to power or vision/discipline/clutch so their base overall did not change. You can lower speed further and I usually put it closer to 50. Remember to still attain that minimum overall threshold but making sure it stays the same after editing is ideal.

    e. For most C, 1b, and 3b, they need to be boosted to the minimum overall threshold.

    9. As for the non essential edits, feel free to do what you want here. I don't like the mass amount of 5'7" players and 5'10" pitchers so I usually make minimum infield height of 5'9" and min pitcher height of 5'11". Again no impact on gameplay just aesthetics. Same goes for appearance. A few too many have huge beards and most 18-21 year olds don't have that kind of facial hair.

    10. This edits along with an extra one I do help tremendously with league balance and top prospect lists. Rookie of the years can still be older at times but it is less common. That is the fault of in game progression and I can't help it.

    11. One more thing I do. The first day of the regular season starting in year 2: On the top 50 prospect list, any player that is 24 years old on it and not on the MLB roster gets their potential lowered by 10. What this mimics is that a player will still be MLB quality caliber but has not reached their potential so their potential is lower. But they will still be a good player usually. This keeps your top 50 more realistic with players 23 and under. This is something new I tried last year but works very well with edits. And not needed at all. But it works for me.

This is a lot convoluted information. I get that. There are a lot of ideas out there about potentials and progression/regression.

Hope this is of use to some.

Great stuff here. One question: I have about 30% D prospects in first draft, do you up these guys to C to get to the desired % for each?

I would potentially bump a few up to 73-74 potential just to keep the ratio a bit better. Won't have a big impact in year 2 but can years down the road. Something I know you are looking to avoid.

I would keep it systematic and bump all the 68 - 69 potential up to 74. Maybe about 10-15 prospects total. Nothing too crazy. But enough to ensure long term stability. If I were to pick a position to do first it would be RP then C then whatever else. Those 2 positions need more filler in that tier than most other positions from my experience.

I’m going to try these out in my 162 game, every pitch played franchise tonight. I’m 41 games in and have been using another popular set on this site but it’s just simply too hard for me and I get way too frustrated, this set might be a nice middle ground between realism but still having fun

It sounds like you are where I am at in this game. HoF is just a bit too hard for me and I don't have fun when I play that difficulty. All star is a bit easier but with the increased pitch speeds and pitcher consistency and control at 5, it delivers a fun challenge.

So I thought that raising the pitch speed would hamper my offense but it’s done the exact opposite. Won’t be going back that’s for sure.

This was the first year I committed to this pitch speed. It took some getting used to. I am 30 games in and I still struggle to adjust at first with a pitcher. It makes those back end of the bullpen high velo set up and closers fun especially when the previous pitchers were all throwing 4 miles per hour slower.

At the 81 game mark, I may bump it up to 8/8 personally (not on the set) if I start raking. Right now though I am staying the course and could not be happier. I never thought I would like a baseball game better than 20, but here we are.

I gotta say I love these sliders so far. I have gotten the most consistent feel games with these. I'm not a master with hitting. HOF always made me feel sloppy, but this feels right in the pocket. I actually use timing hitting with it and it still feels right. I might bump the speed up, like you said to 8/8, but giving it a couple of more games before I do. The pitching side of things feels on the money though, at least to me. My aces feel likes aces, but others can go bad quick if I don't watch it.

Glad to hear you are enjoying them. That's why I have liked all star. HoF was never up my alley. I could never handle it.

I have no plans to change anything right now either. Not even testing anything. Just playing and loving it. It feels great like you said. I am getting such varied results right now. I have had average pitchers have good games and bad games. I have to stay focused like you said or the CPU makes you pay fast.

Awesome post. Great effort that you’ve put in and thank you for sharing. Excited to try this out tonight. I like the variety and that it’s one team roster control.

Can you answer something. Trying to develop minor league A and B prospects. While ideally I manual control everything like you do, I have tried simming a month at a time. With manual roster control, I lose a lot of players to injuries. I’m assuming it keeps my staring lineup until they are dead tired and absolutely needs a day off. If I sim with auto roster control, it puts the D players in with higher overall instead of the A prospect I want to develop. Any way to keep A prospect playing most of the time, other than just setting the lineup every day? Thanks.

                        Thank you for the feedback.

Injuries can definitely be a pain at times. I had seasons where I had 7-8 starters on the DL. Some of which are my top prospects. In my experience, the roster logic even on manual is based solely on overall and secondary positions. Two things I have done to help this is to lower the overall of the D players and take away their secondary positions. Hitting the auto fix lineup is nice but it bases its changes solely on those 2 factors in my experience.

I threw a no hitter with these today. Zach Plesac of Cleveland versus Minnesota. I was a strike away from a perfect game. In all the years I’ve played this game it’s only the third I’ve thrown.

                            Awesome. Congratulations!

I can within an out of a perfect game last year and have only thrown 1 no hitter in my time. That was back in MLB 19.

Re: Funkycorm Presents: MLB 22 All Star Classic/Directional Sliders

Thought I would drop an update here with a new patch being released.

There are NO changes to gameplay sliders. I am still going the course. This game plays amazing. And continues to be my favorite in the series.

Note I did disable the VRR and 120hz on my PS5.

As far as other settings, though it is personal preference for audio, I have lowered the announcer volume. Year 1 is going to have some hiccups and repetition and that is to be expected. But the repetition is becoming noticeable. This lowered has really allowed the other sounds to shine. The crack of the bat this year is great.

As far as rosters. I can not guarantee that these sliders will work with rosters that have edited ratings. My roster I started with used the first updated roster as its base and used my potential editing practices which keeps future years in balance. I know one edited roster has been released and others are on the way. I did my usual assortment of sim testing for this as I do on all rosters. I will leave it as it is not for me. I only mention this because I have seen slider discussion about this roster and there were different sliders than mine used to test so I don't want to guarantee results or that it will play as intended with my sliders.

As I said above, this game is playing great the way it is. The variety and everything continue to be spot on. I really am pleased with by how quickly I got these sliders locked in. After the fiasco of slideritis in 21, this has been a breath of fresh air for me. I have about 40 games under my belt and my RL trusted slider tester has another 20 so sample size is starting to really take shape and show how this game truly shines.

                              Happy baseball gaming!

The highs and lows are really felt with the game this year. Here are some recent scores. Mine is always first.

                                6-0
                                4-1
                                2-5
                                3-2
                                4-2
                                5-2
                                8-0
                                3-5
                                2-5
                                3-6
                                0-2

These are in order. Won 4 in a row and now trying to end a 4 game losing streak. As I said, you really feel the ebb and flow with the sliders and game.

If you are using these, trust the settings and trust the sliders. This is playing the best game or baseball I have ever played.
