The Braves were leading the Red Sox 2-1 after 7 innings with Dylan Lee coming on to pitch the top of the 8th for Atlanta. Trevor Story led off the top of the 8th with a double and Lee would hang a slider to Marcelo Mayer who launched a 2-run HR to CF for his 1st career MLB HR giving Boston a 3-2 lead. The Braves tied the game 3-3 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th on a RBI double by Ronald Acuna. Wilyer Abreu answered with a 2-run HR to CF with 2 outs in the top of the 9th giving Boston a 5-3 lead. The Braves were down to their final out when Ozzie Albies made it a 5-4 game with a RBI double bringing Alex Verdugo to the plate with the tying run in scoring position and 2 outs. Chapman would get Verdugo fly out to Rafaela in CF for the final out and the Red Sox hang on to win the opener of the series 5-4

Marcell Ozuna added a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 7th blowing the game open 7-1. Things got interesting in the top of the 8th when Wilyer Abreu registered just the 2nd hit of the game for Boston launching a solo HR down the RF line in the top of the 8th making it 3 straight games with a HR by Abreu and David Hamilton added a 3-run HR to cut the Braves lead to 7-5. Pierce Johnson relieved Schwellenbach and recorded the final 2 outs in the top of the 8th while Brennan Bernardino pitched a scoreless bottom of the 8th sending the game to the 9th inning with Atlanta leading 7-5 and the Red Sox coming up to bat. Atlanta (33-27)100000001280

Michael Harris took Crochet deep leading off the bottom of the 1st giving Atlanta a quick 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 through 4 innings as Bryce Elder had not allowed a hit through his first 4 innings of work and Crochet settled in after the lead off HR to start the ball game. Elder retired the side in the top of the 5th and the Braves were threatening in the bottom of the 5th when they loaded the bases with 1 out for Luke Williams who smoked a rocket along the third base line but Marcelo Mayer made a slick play to field it cleanly to start a beautiful 5-4-3 double play ending the threat and sending the game to the 6th inning with Atlanta leading 1-0. Ceddanne Rafaela singled to lead off the top of the 6th breaking up the Elder no-hit bid and Roman Anthony would short hop the wall in left-center with 2 outs driving in two runs with a RBI double to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead. I’m about to start my franchise using your slider set.
I played a great game last night in exhibition as the Braves vs the Phillies.
            Strider vs Suarez
went down 2-6 early giving up homeruns to Schwarber and Harper. Came back and made it 5-6 after two bloop singles and then a homer from Acuna. Strider and Suarez both pitched 6 innings. I got to the Phillies pen and ended up winning 10-6.
2 walks and a hit batter for each team. 16 hits for the Braves, 14 hits for the Phillies. My only concern is as that I struck out 9 while only striking out twice at the plate. I will admit to being aggressive early in counts and hitting several weak grounders though. Turning off some of the visual aids may help with that. Either way, the game was a blast and I was into it way more than I get when I use classic pitching and directional hitting.

Glad you are enjoying the sliders

I like as clean a screen as possible and try to minimize or disable everything besides the score bug

                  * The Yankees have now won 6 games in a row to improve to 37-25 while the Red Sox fall to 40-25 and their lead in the AL East is now just 1.5 games over the Yankees

Game #66 of Season - Boston Red Sox (40-25) @ New York Yankees (37-25)
Pitching Matchup – Garrett Crochet (7-2, 3.04 ERA) vs Carlos Rodon (7-2, 2.91 ERA)
                • The Red Sox took a 2-0 lead on a pair of RBI doubles by Romy Gonzalez in the top of the 1st & 3rd innings. Garret Crochet was dominating on the mound for Boston as he had allowed just 1 hit in the bottom of the 1st by Aaron Judge and was though 6 innings while recording 11 Ks and we would head to the 7th inning with the Red Sox leading 2-0. Romy Gonzalez was 3 for 3 when he came up with two men on and 2 outs in the top of the 7th against Mark Leiter and dropped a soft liner into RF for a RBI single making it 3-0. Crochet struck out Austin Wells looking for his 12th K to end the 7th and send the game to the 8th with Boston leading 3-0. The Red Sox went down quietly in the top of the 8th while DJ LeMahieu singled for the Yankees first hit since the 1st inning before Crochet struck out Jason Dominguez and Paul Goldschmidt to record his 13th & 14th Ks ending the bottom of the 8th to send the game to the 9th inning with the Red Sox leading 3-0. Romy Gonzalez added another RBI single in the top of the 9th for his 5th hit and 4th RBI of the ball game making it 4-0. Crochet was at 101 pitches and returned to the mound to start the bottom of the 9th but will be on a short leash with Aroldis Chapman and Jordan Hicks warmed up and ready if the Yankees should get a baserunner. Cody Bellinger poked a ground ball through the left side for a lead off single and that would be all for Crochet as Alex Cora called for hard throwing Jordan Hicks to face Aaron Judge. Hicks tried to blow a 100 mph fastball past Judge with 2 strikes but he didn’t elevate the pitch enough and Judge drove it the opposite way for a 2-run HR over the wall in right-center to cut the deficit in half at 4-2 with nobody out. Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey paid a visit to the mound as Hicks looks to reset and get an out or two before Chapman can enter the ball game. Giancarlo Stanton singled to CF but Hicks would retire Volpe for a huge 1st out of the inning and Alex Cora would bring on Aroldis Chapman to try and record the final 2 outs. Chapman has been the best closer in baseball this season as he is 21 of 22 in save opportunities with a 0.77 ERA and enters a tough spot with the tying run at the plate for New York. Chapman would get Volpe to bounce to Story at SS for a double play ball but it was hit just slow enough to allow Volpe to beat out the throw to first base and keep the game alive with the Yankees now down to their final out. Austin Wells stepped to the plate with DJ LeMahieu on deck and Volpe would advance to second base on a pitch in the dirt. Chapman got ahead with a series fastballs before striking him out on a slider to end the game and give the Red Sox a 4-2 victory setting up a rubber match tomorrow night in the series finale

                  * The Red Sox defeat the Yankees 4-2 to even the series at one game apiece and snap the Yankees 6 game winning streak extend their lead in the AL East Standings back to 2.5 games over the 2nd place Yankees

                  * Romy Gonzalez had a huge night at the plate for Boston providing all the offense as he went 5 for 5 with 3 singles, 2 doubles & 4 RBI in the ball game

                  * Garrett Crochet delivered his best start in a Red Sox uniform in the biggest game of his short Red Sox tenure as the Yankees could have pulled within 0.5 games of the Red Sox for 1st place in the AL East and Crochet pitched 8.0 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 14 and walking 1 to earn the win and improve to 8-2 with a 2.89 ERA on the season

                  * The Red Sox and Yankees with play a rubber match tomorrow with Richard Fitts set to take the mound for Boston while Max Fried gets the start for New York.

Pitching Matchup – Richard Fitts (1-2, 3.75 ERA) vs Max Fried (5-3, 3.30 ERA)

The Red Sox opened the scoring against Max Fried in the top of the 1st when Roman Anthony lined a RBI single to CF giving Boston a 1-0 lead. Richard Fitts was pitching well early before the Yankees tied the game 1-1 on a solo HR from Trent Grisham in the bottom of the 3rd and Giancarlo Stanton would hit a towering fly ball to LF for a solo HR in the bottom of the 4th and we would head to the 5th inning with New York leading 2-1. The score remained 2-1 into the bottom of the 6th where the Yankees had runners on the corners with 1 out but Garrett Whitlock struck out Jazz Chisholm and Ben Rice to get out of the jam and keep it a 2-1 ball game. Fried pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 7th and Cody Bellinger delivered a two out RBI double in the bottom of the 7th to extend the lead to 3-1. Luke Weaver pitched a scoreless top of the 8th for New York while Justin Slaten retired the side in order in the bottom of 8th to send the game to the 9th inning with New York leading 3-1 and Yankees closer Devin Williams coming on to pitch the top of the 9th looking to close it out and record the save. Wilyer Abreu came on to pinch hit for Refsnyder leading off the top of the 9th for Boston but struck out for the 1st out. Trevor Story lined a rocket to LF but it was hit right at Bellinger who made the catch and the Red Sox were down to their final out. Abraham Toro hit a fly ball deep to RF but Judge would get back and make the catch in front of the warning track to end the ball game and the Yankees beat the Red Sox 3-1 and take 2 out of 3 from Boston to win the series

                * The Yankees win the series finale 3-1 and take 2 out of 3 from the Red Sox at Fenway Park to win the series and pull within 1.5 games of the Red Sox for 1st place in the AL East

                * The Yankees got home runs from Giancarlo Stanton (5) and Trent Grisham (4)

                * The Red Sox will activate OF/1B Masataka Yoshida from the injured list andYoshida will make his season debut tomorrow after missing the first 67 games of the season following off-season shoulder surgery.

                * The Red Sox have sent rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell down to AAA Worcester to make room on the roster for Yoshida and to allow Campbell to get playing time at first base without the pressure of learning the position at the major league level. The Red Sox are hoping that Campbell finds his swing while in Worcester and the expectation is that Campbell will be back with the MLB ball club sooner rather than later with the ability to play first base

                    Game #68 of Season
Pitching Matchup – Shane Baz (4-4, 4.26 ERA) vs Brayan Bello (5-0, 1.72 ERA)

The game was scoreless after 2 innings as Brayan Bello and Shane Baz were both sharp early. Bello Got himself into trouble in the top of the 3rd inning when he hit Chandler Simpson with a pitch to start the inning and would walk Junior Caminero to load the bases for Jonathan Aranda with 1 out. Bello would fall behind in the count before throwing a changeup that stayed over the plate and Aranda launched a 422 foot bomb over the Red Sox bullpen in right-center for a grand slam giving Tampa Bay a 4-0 lead. Josh Lowe added a solo HR making it a 5-0 lead for the Rays after 3 innings while Brandon Lowe belted a 2-run HR to RF in the top of the 4th making it 7-0. Josh Lowe smacked a 2-run HR off Brennan Bernardino in the top of the 5th and Marcelo Mayer responded with a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 5th to get the Red Sox on the board making it a 9-2 game. The score remained 9-2 into the bottom of the 7th where Mayer picked up his 3rd RBI of the night with a RBI single and Jarren Duran added a RBI single cutting the deficit to 9-4. Any hope of a Red Sox comeback was ended when Chandler Simpson took Greg Weissert deep for a 2-run HR with 2 outs in the top of the 8th making it 11-4. The Red Sox went down quietly in the bottom of the 8th and 9th innings and the Rays win the opener of this 3 game series 11-4

                    * The Rays defeat the Red Sox in the opener of the series by a score of 11-4. The Rays improve to 36-30 and pull within 4 games of the 1st place Red Sox who have lost 3 of their last 4 games and fall to 41-27 and their lead over the 2nd place Yankees (36-28) is now down to 1.0 games

                    * The Rays slugged 5 HR in the ball game with Josh Lowe 2 (4), Brandon Lowe (14), Jonathan Aranda (5) and Chandler Simpson (1) all going deep for Tampa Bay

                    * Marcelo Mayer had a big night for Boston going 3 for 4 with a HR & 3 RBI and Mayer is now hitting .250 with 4 HR & 14 RBI in 17 games since making his major league debut with the Red Sox after being promoted from AAA Worcester

                    INJURY UPDATE
The Red Sox lineup will get a big boost tomorrow when Alex Bregman returns to the lineup after missing 20 games with an injured quad. Bregman was off to an excellent start in his first season with the Red Sox after signing with Boston in free agency. Bregman was hitting .291 with 12 HR & 37 RBI and the Red Sox really need his bat in the lineup after the recent trade of Rafael Devers. Bregman will return to his regular position at third base while Marcelo Mayer will take over duties as the everyday second baseman

                    TRANSACTIONS
The Red Sox will send 2B/SS David Hamilton down to AAA Worcester to make room for the return of Bregman on the active roster. Hamilton could be a trade candidate as the injury to Bregman opened the door for one of the top prospects in baseball as Marcelo Mayer made his MLB debut and been productive at the plate with the ability to give the Red Sox an impact bat to go along with quality defensive play at 3B, SS and 2B

Pitching Matchup – Ryan Pepiot (6-4, 2.61 ERA) vs Lucas Giolito (1-1, 3.64 ERA)

The Rays jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st on a HR by Brandon Lowe and the Red Sox answered in the bottom of the 1st when Alex Bregman ignited the Fenway crowd with a solo HR in his 1st at bat returning from injury and Trevor Story crushed a 3-run HR into the light tower over the green monster giving the Red Sox a 4-2 lead. The score stayed 4-2 until the top of the 3rd when Jonathan Aranda crushed a 443 foot shot for a 2-run HR tying the game 4-4. Boston reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a RBI double by Roman Anthony and RBI single by Trevor Story giving the Sox a 6-4 lead before loading the bases with 1 out for Marcelo Mayer. Mason Englert would replace Pepiot on the mound and Mayer lined a RBI single to RF making it 7-4 and Ceddanne Rafaela followed with a RBI single to CF scoring two runs to make it 9-4. Englert continued to struggle as Boston loaded the bases again still with 1 out for Bregman who made it 10-4 with a RBI sac fly to CF before Anthony and Narvaez would add RBI singles as the Red Sox send 13 men to the plate and explode for 8 runs to open up a 12-4 lead. Boston continued to swing the bats and add to their lead as the score was 18-5 after 7 innings. The Sox added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th and would go on to win 20-6

                    Game #70 of Season
Pitching Matchup – Zack Littell (2-3, 2.54 ERA) vs Walker Buehler (4-5, 3.66 ERA)

The Rays opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd on a solo HR by Josh Lowe gave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead. Walker Buehler settled in and had not allowed a hit since the Lowe HR retiring 13 of the next 14 batters allowing just a walk to Ha-Seong Kim and the score remained 1-0 as Zack Littell was pitching well for the Rays until Boston tied the game in the bottom of the 6th on a RBI sac fly by Wilyer Abreu and we would head to the 7th inning tied 1-1. The Red Sox went to work after Littell recorded two quick outs to begin the bottom of the 7th before Romy Gonzalez doubled off the green monster and Jarren Duran followed with a liner up the middle for a RBI single giving Boston a 2-1 lead. Garrett Whitlock had 2 strikes on Brandon Lowe with 2 outs in the top of the 8th when he tried to put him away but hung a back door slider and Lowe absolutely crushed it launching a 459 foot 2-run HR giving the Rays a 3-2 lead and stunning the Fenway Park crowd. Garrett Cleavinger pitched a scoreless bottom of the 8th and we would go to the 9th inning with Tampa Bay leading 3-2. The Rays added some insurance in the top of the 9th as they loaded the bases against Whitlock and Chandler Simpson would make it 4-2 with a RBI single. The Red Sox came up to bat against Pete Fairbanks in the bottom of the 9th trailing 4-2 and Yoshida led off with a single bringing the tying run to the plate for Boston with nobody out. Marcelo Mayer lined a rocket the opposite way but Josh Lowe would make a nice running catch to take away a base hit for the 1st out. Abraam Toro was up next and hit the ball hard on the ground but it was right at Brandon Lowe at second base who flipped to Kim at SS to start a game ending 4-6-3 double play and the Rays hold on to win 4-2 with Fairbanks recording his 24th save of the season
                  • * The Red Sox lose the series finale to the Rays 4-2 and the Rays take 2 out of 3 from the Red Sox at Fenway Park as Tampa Bay improves to 37-31 while the Red Sox fall to 42-28 and see their lead in the AL East cut down to 1.5 games over the 2nd place Yankees while the Rays are now just 4.0 games back and tied with the Orioles for 3rd place in a tight AL East Stan

                    * The Red Sox were led by the following players who had big nights:
                    ---- Jarren Duran went 2 for 4 with a double & 1 RBI

                      Game #71 of Season
Pitching Matchup – Clarke Schmidt (6-3, 4.46 ERA) vs Garrett Crochet (8-2, 2.89 ERA)

The Yankees got out to a quick start against Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet as Cody Bellinger led off the ball game with a single and Anthony Volpe followed with a fly ball that carried over the green monster for a HR giving New York a 2-0 lead. The Yankees added another run in the top of the 2nd on a RBI single by Paul Goldschmidt to take a 3-0 lead. Crochet settled in after a bit of a rocky start while Clarke Schmidt was pitching well for New York as he had all of his pitches working and had yet to allow a baserunner through 5 innings and we would go to the 6th inning with the Yankees leading 3-0. Schmidt retired the side in the bottom of the 6th and was perfect through 6 innings as we move to the 7th inning with the Yankees up 3-0. Crochet finished off his outing with a 1-2-3 top of the 7th and Jarren would break up the perfect game and no-hitter with a liner into CF leading off the bottom of the 7th. Duran stole second base to put a man in scoring position with 1 out. Schmidt got Roman Anthony to fly out but Carlos Narvaez would come through with 2 outs as he drove a ball high off the green monster just missing a HR by an inch or two cutting the deficit to 3-1 with a RBI double. Yoshida flew out to end the inning sending the game to the 8th inning with New York leading 3-1. Jorge Alcala replaced Crochet and pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 8th while Luke Weaver took over for Schmidt and retired the Sox in order in the bottom half to send us to the 9th inning with the Yankees up 3-1. Alcala recorded 2 quick outs to begin the top of the 9th before Jorbit Vivas hit a high fly ball that carried into the monster seats for a huge 2-run HR pushing the lead to 5-1. Weaver retired Toto, Duran and Bregman in order in the bottom of the 9th to finish off a 5-1 win for New York

                      * The Yankees take the opener of this 3 game series at Fenway Park as they beat the Red Sox 5-1 and are now just 0.5 back of the 1st place Red Sox. The Red Sox have now lost 4 of their last 5 games and are 3-6 over their last 9

                      * Clarke Schmidt was outstanding for New York as he held the Red Sox to just 2 hits over 7 innings to earn the win to improve to 7-3 on the season despite being matched up against Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet who pitched 7 inning allowing 3 runs as Crochet falls to 8-3 with the loss in the opener

                      * The Yankees will have a chance to take over 1st place in the AL East tomorrow night when they send Carlos Rodon to the mound while Richard Fitts gets the start for the Red Sox

Boston Red Sox (46-30) @ San Francisco Giants (40-35)
Pitching Matchup – Richard Fitts (2-3, 3.60 ERA) vs Hayden Birdsong (1-0, 4.54 ERA)

The score was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd when the Giants had Richard Fitts reeling with the bases loaded and 1 out when Matt Chapman lined a ball into the RF corner for a 2-run double putting San Francisco up 3-1. Luis Matos followed with a RBI double making it 4-1 and bringing Rafael Devers to the plate with two in scoring position and a chance to blow the game open against his former team. Devers fouled off several two strike pitches to stay alive drawing a walk to load the bases and that would be all for Fitts as Alex Cora went to the bullpen bringing in Greg Weissert to take over on the mound with 1 out and the bases loaded. Heliot Ramos would hit a soft liner into CF for a RBI single scoring 2 runs to extend the lead to 6-1. Luis Matos added a RBI single in the bottom of the 4th and we would head to the 5th with the Giants leading 7-1. The Red Sox closed the gap in the top of the 5th when Jarren Duran doubled to put two men in scoring position and Alex Bregman followed with a rocket deep to LF that carried over the wall for a big 3-run HR cutting the Giants lead to 7-4. Jorge Alcala pitched a scoreless bottom of the 5th sending us to the 6th with the Giants leading 7-4. Boston Red Sox (50-30) @ Los Angeles Angels (25-53)
Pitching Matchup – Garrett Crochet (8-3, 3.01 ERA) vs Tyler Anderson ( (5-10, 4.88 ERA)

The Red Sox and Angels traded solo HR by Romy Gonzalez for Boston and Jorge Soler for LA in the 2nd inning and we would head to the 3rd inning tied 1-1. The Red Sox took the lead back in the top of the 3rd on a RBI single by Jarren Duran to put Boston up 2-1. The score remained 2-1 until the top of the 6th when Romy Gonzalez picked up a RBI with a sac fly to LF making it 3-1. Boston would add another run in the top of the 7th on a throwing error by Zach Neto but Los Angeles answered with a solo HR by Logan O’Hoppe leading off the bottom of the 7th to cut the Red Sox lead to 4-2. Crochet would get through the inning with no further damage to finish off his outing and send the game to the 8th inning with Boston leading 4-2. Garrett Whitlock took over for Crochet and pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 8th sending the game to the 9th inning with the Red Sox leading 4-2. Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless top of the 9th and we would go to the bottom of the 9th with the Angels coming up to bat trailing 4-2 with Aroldis Chapman coming on to try and close it out and record the save for Boston with Soler, O’Hoppe and Ward due to hit for Los Angeles. Chapman retired Soler on a ground out to Bregman for the 1st out before O’Hoppe singled to LF to bring the tying run to the plate for the Angels with 1 out. Ward dropped a bloop single into shallow LF and suddenly the Angels had two men on with Zach Neto coming to the plate. Neto made it 3 straight hits for the Angels with a liner into RF for a RBI single making it a one run game at 4-3. Jo Adell was up next and hit a deep drive to CF almost hitting a game winning HR but Jarren Duran made an outstanding catch crashing into the wall and the tying run would score on the sac fly as Chapman blows just his 2nd save of the season and we were all tied up 4-4. Chapman would get the final out and we were headed to extra innings with the score tied 4-4. Boston reclaimed the lead in the top of the 10th when Trevor Story launched a 2-run blast down the LF line putting the Red Sox up 6-4. Jordan Hicks came on to pitch the bottom of the 10th for Boston looking to close it out and he would retire Newman and Schanuel for 2 outs bringing Lamont Wade to the plate with Luis Rengifo at third base as the extra innings runner with the Angels down to their final out. Wade fouled off a couple 100 mph fastballs to stay alive before Hicks would strike him out on a splitter to end the ball game giving the Red Sox a 6-4 victory in 10 innings

                                * The Red Sox win 6-4 in 10 innings to take the 2nd game of this 3 game series at Angel Stadium for their 6th straight win and the Red Sox will look to complete the sweep tomorrow in the series finale

                                * The Red Sox extend their winning streak to 6 games they improve to 51-30 while the Angels fall to 25-54 on the season

                                * Jarren Duran remains red hot as he went 3 for 4 with a double & 1 RBI and a stolen base in tonights ball game. * Trevor Story went 2 for 5 with a HR & 3 RBI in the ball game while hitting a big 2-run HR in the top of the 10th for Boston. Story is now hitting .223 with 7 HR & 24 RBI as he continues to swing the bat better of late after a tough start to the season

                                * Garrett Crochet was coming off a 15 K performance in his last outing at Seattle and had recorded 37 Ks in 22 innings pitched over his last 3 starts coming into tonights game and Crochet would pitch well throwing 7 strong innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 7 Ks & 1 walk as he was in line for the win before Chapman blew the save in the 9th

                                * Aroldis Chapman blew the save for just the 2nd time this season for Boston as he has been the best closer in baseball through the first half of the season. Pitching Matchup – Shane Bieber (2-1, 1.78 ERA) vs Brayan Bello (7-1, 2.78 ERA)

The Red Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning when Alex Bregman launched his 17th HR over the green monster in LF off Shane Bieber who came to Toronto in a trade with Cleveland last week. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the 3rd when Nathan Lukes crushed a 441 foot solo HR to CF cutting the Sox lead to 2-1 and Alejandro Kirk would hit a 422 foot solo HR to CF in the top of the 4th tying the game 2-2. The Red Sox reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 5th when Bieber left a slider over the plate to Alex Bregman who hit a rocket into the green monster seats for his 2nd HR of the night and 18th of the season giving Boston a 3-2 lead. The Red Sox extended their lead in the bottom of the 6th when Masataka Yoshida lined a ball in the gap for a RBI double scoring a pair to make it 5-2. Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran and Trevor Story would each add a RBI as Boston sent 9 men to the plate in the inning and blew the game open as we head to the 7th inning with the Red Sox now leading 8-2. Brayan Bello was pitching well but got into trouble in the top of the 7th when Toronto loaded the bases with 1 out. Alex Cora stuck with Bello to face Joey Loperfido after a mound visit by pitching coach Andrew Bailey as Bello was only at 82 pitches and the Blue Jays had Vladimir Guerrero lurking in the on-deck circle. Bello would need just one pitch to get out of the jam as he ran a slider in on Loperfido who hit a ground ball to Bregman at third base to start a huge inning ending 5-4-3 double play keeping it a 8-2 game. Yoshida wrapped a ball around the Pesky pole in RF for a solo HR in the bottom of the 7th making it 9-2. Isaiah Campbell came on to pitch and recorded two quick outs to begin the top of the 8th before Addison Barger walker and Kirk singled to put two men on for Ty France who crushed a 3-run HR down the LF line cutting the deficit to 9-5. Daulton Varsho followed with a solo HR to CF as France and Varsho go back to back and suddenly it was a 9-6 ball game and Campbell was exiting as Justin Wilson came on looking to get the final out of the frame. Ernie Clement welcomed Wilson with a single and Lukes hammered a ball off the green monster for a RBI double making it 9-7 and Toronto was bringing the tying run to the plate. Wilson would bounce back with a huge K as Loperfido chased a 97 mph fastball up to end the top of the 8th with the Blue Jays cutting the Red Sox lead to 9-7. Louie Varland pitched a scoreless bottom of the 8th for Toronto and the Blue Jays were coming up to bat in top t the 9th trailing 9-7 with Aroldis Chapman making his way in to try and close it out for Boston with Vladimir Guerrero, Bo Bichette and Addison Barger due up for Toronto. Chapman retired Guerrero on a ground out to Bregman and Bichette on a fly ball to Abreu in RF and the Jays were quickly down to their final out. Barger stepped to the plate and battled to a full count before Chapman struck him out on an elevated fastball and the Red Sox take the opener of this 3 game series 9-7
