Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Well, running my test save just to try things out, I thought it was weird when my job offers were Orem Owlz and Helena Brewers, I was thinking, these guys don't need a GM(I don't have much an interest in managing), but I took the Orem Owlz job anyway without realizing I was just the day to day manager. So far, my three-year career hasn't been too bad. First year with the Orem Owls I went 46-30 and won my division, but lost the Championship Series, then I was promoted to the Burlington Bees in the Midwest League, I went 72-68, missed the playoffs, the owner said that my job was under review, so I quickly bolted to the Carolina League to manage the woeful Winston-Salem Dash. The previous year the Dash had won only 18 games, so I knew my expectations shouldn't be high, simming through that year I managed a 75-65 record, and finished last in my division(I would've won the other division). Now I've been promoted to the Birmingham Barons, last year they went 61-79.
Since I'm not sure I'll be offered a job, I've been keeping an eye on the Majors and which teams would fire their GM, and which ones would hire a minor league GM(which is what I consider myself, even if I don't do anything, lol) I've been scouting players profusely though, so that when I do become a GM, I'll know which ones I want. Right now, if Milwaukee doesn't improve this year, I may end up taking them over. I almost took over the Twins, but they magically won the division this year, so everyone's job is safe there.Support Local Sports

Nice start so far, and just so you know you can start out a new game as a GM of a team. When you get to the part where you put in the name of your character and his age and other stuff, there are the options where you can act as commissioner, GM only and cannot be fired and and drop down menu where you can select your team. If you choose a major league team you will be the GM.
Also when you do become the GM and you want to make realistic trade, try not to use the "Shop a Player" option, you can really fleece the computer, I got Pedro Alvarez for Wilson Betimet straight up.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Well I play by my own rules for sports games, the offers depends on how I assess the other teams. If its not fair I'm not going to absolutely fleece the other GMs(though the Terry Ryan in me wants to)
Well after setting super low expectations I exceeded them at Birmingham, and even with a losing record I was promoted to Charlotte. After the season I checked available jobs, and lo and behold the Brewers GM position was open. I took it, and it looks like I've been handed a failed "win now" squad... rebuild here I come. I'm going to offload everyone over 30 currently on the roster(except Braun) and go young. My own goal is to not lose 100 games.
First order of business was firing Ron Roenicke, and I hired Ron Gardenhire. I intend on evaluating the full staff and getting guys who work well with young players. This test save is going to be interesting.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
What settings, modes, different things such as injury or suspension frequency, etc. did you happen to play on?
I strongly recommend two things to people who want the most sim-like game play without going through leaps & bounds: turn the difficulty up at least one notch to begin with, whether you're new or not unless you're buying the game to learn baseball... it is not that hard to learn the interface, and the rest is kind of your own decision-making put to test once you learn how to manage the menus.
Make sure computer trades are lower than usual, or there will be some silly deals. I will occasionally overturn a deal between computer teams in current franchises, but I find when I have time I just try to edit the players and put them on "untouchable" club list, or, if need be, give them a fake no trade clause as part of their contract to prevent a guy like Bryce Harper from being dealt for guys 35+ or something even dumber, like Strasburg and Harper for Stanton and Fernandez....
I wish, as "operating" as or under the status as league commissioner and also running a club independently as a GM (with ability to be fired, too.. I only keep commish mode on in case I see minor edits or tweaks that could be improved, or flat-out errors).....
I've only won on my first play though once.. it was on 11, and I was playing on the hardest difficulty, and it was actually the hardest OOTP experience (single-player) I've ever gone through. Very challenging- I took the Black Sox and re-wrote history with that team, leading them to a title in 7. Then my game crashed and poof, the whole file was gone. Thanfully I did it all in one day, but my knowledge of that era being less than stellar and playing on hard difficulty after buying 11 (and I was making the jump at that point from 6.5/12 to 11.... so it was foreign as hell, then!). I was shocked. I wish I had that franchise still
Sometimes I have found that over too many years even with different settings, both scouting and managers on and off or whatever, that teams will just begin to stack....especially in retro franchises I have done. Won a few with Weaver and carried the chise long enough where Gardenire got me 1st place, but I didn't win junk and he retired. Then my franchise died in year 15 or so, but I think i had 2 rings and 5 WS appearances in that span. Which seemed high.
A lot of it is also abstaining from making cheesy trades. Even with trade difficulty on VERY HARD, the computer can be dumb. Gotta play realistic and just decline it for the sake of fairness sometimes.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
It is nice to see people are playing OOTP still, though!!! I would love to join or co-run a league like I did in the past- I have free hosting space, if people still play online. I'm cool with waiting until next yr too and am on here enough, so if anyone had/has similar ideas for their next release (or if there's a last-minute roster update with the off-season ready to rip, which would be a fun place to start IMO, so long as the season has been simmed.... someone did this for the 2012-13 transition, I think).
PM me if anyone has a lead-- I would prefer a jumpstart league, either recent or historical- I don't like hybrids and fictional leagues get old, fast, unless there is a strict theme that is different than the billions I've done before.... classical leagues or even a league not too far from where we're at in real life right now, assuming we might sim fast to begin, and it gives us all a chance to catch up to where MLB will be starting next year if we time it right.
I'm posting this in here since I've been ISO an ootp league for ages (again) and everyone, for god knows why, STILL only seems to want to run/participate/buy to import for 6.5/12 leagues and I do not find that entertaining.... up-to-date and import rosters or bust- I don't know how so many people can be so cheap, sometimes.Comment

I think I might start a fictional game or I might just restart an Astros one. Not sure yet.Comment

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
one major beef though, the potential for some of the DBacks is way off
Goldschmidt is only 3 star, Archie Bradley is only 2 star, these both should be 5 star potential players
how do i edit that?~~~~~~~~~

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
maybe some ratings are way off but I think generally that those aren't the actual potential ratings but what your scout estimates. depending on what the scouting accuracy is set to those can be a bit off sometimes, even on normal.Spending time with Jesus!

Re: ***The Official OOTP Thread***
Pretty intrigued by this but got a few questions first.
If I downloaded the All-in-one mod, would the historical rosters have the correct players? And I'm not just talking about the stars like the Barry Bonds and the Ken Griffey's, I mean like the whole 40 man roster? Also as you go along do the real players appear? So if I started a roster in 1980 with the Mariners would A-Rod, Randy Johnson and Ichiro etc. appear as I progress through the years?
I love the statistical side of baseball, how accurate are the stats on this game? Also is there anyway of downloading a roster for this upcoming season? I'm a Mets fan and would love to do a season with Granderson and Colon now on the Mets.
Finally, it's £13.99 (i'm in the UK, that's about $23) on the app store. Is that a worthwhile investment? Or should I wait for OOTP '15.
Thanks for any help guys.Comment
