    Re: OOTP 19 Franchise Progress

We put up 101 wins but, in a flash, it's over. Our nemesis, the Red Sox, beat us in 4 in the ALDS. Judge went down with a torn labrum that ended his season in early September, so fans will be asking themselves "what if..." for a while. We were in each game of the series with Boston but they slammed the door with a 9-5 victory on Game 4 in Fenway. Now, the Yankees head home, as their season is over.

    Standings:
    Yanks 101-61
    Sox 85-77**
    Rays 75-87
    Jays 74-88
    Os 71-91

    Ind 100-62
    Twins 87-75**
    Tig 80-82
    Sox 68-94
    Roy 59-103

    Ast 91-71
    Angel 81-81
    Oak 77-85
    Mariner 75-87
    Range 74-88

    NL East
    Nats 85-77
    Met 82-78
    Phil 83-79
    Brave 79-83
    Mar 63-98

    Cub 91-71
    Pirate 86-76
    RED 85-77
    Card 78-84
    Brew 65-97

    Dod 102-60
    Dbacks 89-73**
    Pad 86-75
    Giant 79-83
    Rock 77-85

The Padres and Pirates tied for the second WC and the Padres won the play in game.

Oakland's Khris Davis slugged 68 homers. Wow.

San Diego beat Arizona in the WC game and Boston topped Minnesota 8-7.

Miraculously, the Padres beat the 102 win Dodgers in four games in the NLDS. The Dodgers finish another season without living up to their expectations.

Washington beat the Cubs in four in the other NLDS.

The defending champion Astros topped Cleveland in a competitive five game series in the ALDS. Their title defense continues. So, too, does Cleveland's drought.

ALCS: Boston vs. Houston, NLCS San Diego(!) vs. Washington

The Astros are healthy, with their only injury being RP Tony Sipp. They were only 7th in RS and 6th in RA, so they didn’t exactly dominate. Boston is healthy, too. They were only 8th in RS (11th in homers) but they were near the top of the AL in OBP and batting average. They had the 3rd best starter’s ERA but only the 12th ranked bullpen. San Diego has made it this far with a staff ranked 3rd in RA. (They’re 11th in RS.) The Dodgers lost Turner and Taylor to injuries, so maybe San Diego just got lucky. Washington had one of the NL’s better offenses but their bullpen is still their kryptonite (14th in NL.) They’ve lost Gio Gonzalez and Tanner Roark to season ending injuries, which doesn’t help their cause.

Holy....wow. San Diego swept the Nationals and will represent the NL in the World Series! The MVP of the series was 22 YO Allen Cordoba, who cycled in the series and had a pair of three hit games in addition to that cycle.

Houston beat Boston in 6 games, so they will meet San Diego in the World Series. San Diego jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the series but Houston stormed back to tie to at 2-2. Houston won their third game in a row to take a 3-2 lead. San Diego handily won G6 in Houston to force G7 in Texas. Houston blanked The Padres 2-0 in that game to win the World Series and complete their title defense. Altuve (who else?) won MVP of the series. The Astros have now won two WS in a row (counting last year's real life win.)

Has anyone notified the Devs of this obvious glitch?

            Re: OOTP 19 Franchise Progress

Y2 of my Yankees save ended very similarly. We won 102 games, a modest one game improvement over our 2018 campaign. We won the division for the second year in a row and drew the Red Sox in the ALDS again. This time, we split the first two games in NY. G3 in Fenway, Stanton had a monster day with 3 homers and we won to take the lead. Our only notable additions were Logan Forsythe and Pedro Strop (FA) as well as Eduardo Rodriguez (FA, replaced Montgomery in rotation.) Billy McKinney (promoted from within) was promoted and took over a starting OF spot. Domingo Acevedo was also promoted and had a good year when Severino went down with an injury.

            ---

Oh, revenge is so wonderfully sweet. Boston took G4 to tie the series, forcing g5 in the Bronx. It was a nail biter and I'll call it a classic.

James Paxton was chased after 2.2 innings. He gave up 2 ER but his ERA this postseason is an unsightly 14.73. John Holder shut down Boston for 1.1 innings and gave way to Severino, who pitched 2 shutout innings. Eduardo Rodriguez ceded the lead to his former team and Boston held that 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth. Then, Hicks hit a solo hot to tie the game. Drury singled and was driven home by a Didi double, giving the Yankees the walkoff series win. Stanton was fittingly named series MVP with 5 homers .

We will meet the Astros, the guys that have won 2 titles in a row, in the ALCS. Houston beat Minnesota in the DS.

In the regular season, we were 4th in RS, 2nd in Homers, 1st in RA, 2nd in Starters ERA and 2nd in BP.

Billy McKinney hit 17 homers and .261 in 117 games. Aaron Judge had a big bounce back year. (2018: .205, 22 HR, 0.1 ERA. 2019: 49 homers, .263, 106 RBI, 5.6 ERA.) Gary Sanchez hit .298 with 39 homers. (4.2 WAR) Stanton hit 54 homers, batted in 114 runs and hit .262. (4.9 WAR.) Didi had a down year, as he missed a lot of time with injury. He batted .253 in 64 games. Gleyber Torres hit .245 with 16 homers in 143 games. Bird hit a career high 32 homers for a career high 2.5 WAR.

The entire rotation took a step back (Severino had a 5.13 ERA, Paxton’s was 3.63, Sonny Gray actually improved with a 3.76 ERA and Tanaka’s was 4.60.) Chapman led the league with 38 saves and had a 1.75 ERA. He has player option for next season. Robertson missed most of the year and is out for the whole postseason. Kahnle had a 2.40 ERA, Green’s was 3.08, Betances had a 2.83, Holder had a nice 2.58 ERA,

Houston won 94 games. (We were the only AL team to win 100 or more.) They were 2nd in RS, 1st in OBP, 3rd in homers but 8th in RA, 8th in starters, and 9th in BP. They had the 13th defense in the AL. Gerrit Cole went down for the season in July. Gustave Hoyt and Joe Smith all all done for the year, too. But they have a nasty lineup. Jose Altuve , AJ Reed, BRYCE HARPER, Correa, Springer, and Alex Bregman. Gulp… They also added Zach Britton to the BP.

In the NL, the Cubs, who won 111 games, beat ‘Zona in the DS and the Mets topped the Dodgers in five in the other NLDS.

                Re: OOTP 19 Franchise Progress

Year 1 was a tough learning experience for me, but fun. Lost 101 games, my SP never got going. At one point Dylan Bundy was 0-13. Chris Davis' and his contract was a huge road block. $23 million signed through 2023. Britton was on the DL for the first 2 months of the season. Soon as he came back I shopped him. Boston stepped up and offered Xander Bogarts and RHP Roniel Raudes for Britton and C Welbin Bautita. So I pulled the trigger on that deal. Then with the team in free fall I offered up Machado and despite givning up a quality prospect I traded Manny and LF Austin Hayes and RHP Lucas Humpal to the Dodger for Joc Pederson, CF Yusniel Diaz, 1B Albert Suarez, LHP Michael Boyle and a really nice RHP prospect Duany Gomez (who was progressing nicely till he tore his labrum).

Anyways I managed to Get Machado back in Free Agency and there was an expansion draft that fixed my biggest money problems as they expansion team took Chris Davis and his $115 million contract, Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo ($26 million remaining). Still have a lot to learn, but there is noting like on the job training. We shall see. This is what I'm working with right now in spring. Rotation is still a problem, but I have some arms in the minors I'm happy about.

I won the World Series in Year 2 with my Yankees. We beat the defending champion Astros in 6 in the ALCS. Then, it was another Subway Series, this time with it all on the line, as we beat the Mets in 6 in the WS. Greg Bird won LCS MVP and WS MVP because of an incredible postseason where he hit 10 homers, which broke Barry Bond's single-season postseason record.

Off to a rough start with the Angels. Lost SP JC Ramirez for 6 months. The Orioles waived Dylan Bundy, and I claimed him, he's not my #5 starter. Bullpen is killing me.

Hmmm, interesting. I also picked up Dylan Bundy from waivers early in 2018 of my A's save. The O's signed Eric Hacker from the KBO to replace him. Bundy was only making $1.65MM or something. A bit of a head scratcher, but he promptly got clobbered in his 1st start for me.

He's 3-0 for me now. ERA since he's been on my team is like 1.45, last game was a complete game win in which he gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.

                                Re: OOTP 19 Franchise Progress

Couldn't resist. Set up shop with the Marlins and trying to remake them into a W.S. team (again).

Turned on all the available international leagues, because why not. All the default settings and stuff for now.

Alright, boxes unpacked. Office set up. Internet working. Time to start the franchise.

                                And what a bleak scene.

Figured things would be dire but this...this is depressing. On the plus side, it's like a blank canvas, so an opportunity to make a mark and shape the squad from the ground up. Bad news is it's literally from the ground.

Looking at what's there, though...Sandy Alcantara looks like he'll be up sooner than later. Going to resist bringing him to the majors for now, but he is added to the 40-man. IF Isan Diaz seems interesting...if risky... He'll start the year at AA to see how he handles things.

Same is true for Monte Harrison, who seems like an athletic outfielder in the making. A case could be made that he's decent enough to be better than the outfielders on the roster...in fact, Harrison is a kid I will watch closely.

Otherwise, not much we can do just yet. I see some players who could move up/down between the majors and AAA, but no need to rush anything.

Money isn't really there and what is there, I'm going to invest in scouting the avenues new talent enters the league - draft and international talent. Our scout is best in those areas as well so it make sense. A fair bit invested in the minors as well so we can make sure we have decent reads on our existing farm talents.

What we can do, however, is look for minor league talent offer them minors contracts. I asked our head scout for the youngest, fastest defenders with a decent shot at being overall average players. He gave me his sorted list. We're targeting a few kids right now:

                                IF Brayant Aponte
                                OF Yennrys Mendez
                                OF Danielsan Heureaux
                                IF Edwin Ochoa
                                LHP Jose Orta
                                RHP Santy Prada

Sadly, we ended up only with the pitchers and Ochoa. Looks like other teams had the same ideas. Ochoa already proving to be an enigma. For some reason, he listed himself as an infielder when he scouts best as an outfielder. We'll have him be CF for the time being since he has the skills to handle it, potentially anyway.

Put out some offers to help build our farm coaching staff. Most notable was our success in wooing John Farrell to be our manager for AA-Jacksonville.

Rejected a trade from the Giants...just not what we're looking for. We need to look to the future, not swap vet player and throw in a prospect for the privilege.

Only thing to do now is hit the field and see how things start shaking out.
