Did you run out of $$$ to sign that 2nd round catcher? Was his demand just too much? That seems unexpected that you didn't sign him.

I didn't play the system right. He was an "Extremely Hard" guy to get and I only met his demand. I should have gone a little over. It was a mistake on my part. I'm still playing Money Ball even though my owner has opened up his wallet.

Sucks because he had some serious potential too. Oh well, my system is actually loaded with a lot of really good catching prospects after last year's draft and a guy my scout discovered late in Year 1

I'm putting this in spoilers because it's very long. It's a recap of my season from the end of July to the end of the WS.

Welcome to trade season. We didn’t have a lot of expendable pieces but we did trade Brandon Moss to Washington, netting RP Brady Dragmire, who has joined the big league club, RF Daniel Johnson Jr, and 3B Kelvin Gutierrez. The Nationals lost Matt Adams to injury for the season and Harper and Murphy are currently out, too. In the NL, Moss might downgrade a team’s defense but there’s no doubting his bat this season. We also sent Leonys Martin to Houston; they have lost Altuve for the season and Springer is out for another 6-7 weeks as of this writing, which has hurt their offensive production. (9th in NL.) Martin has taken over their starting CF spot and is hitting .308 in ten games. He’ll be a valuable asset off the bench when Springer returns.

Looking at our lineup now, Ben Revere has stepped into the starting CF spot and he’s hitting leadoff, like Martin did. Revere is hitting .305 in 29 games. Christin Stewart has been called up and he’s our primary DH. He has a lot of power but he will likely strike out a lot. (Though he also has a good eye…) Mikie Mahtook has shifted over to a starting OF spot but he’s still only hitting .232. Jose Iglesias is up to a .303 average. In preliminary extension talks, he said he doesn’t want to play for Gardenhire so that’ll be a storyline to watch this fall. We called up C Derek Norris after we waived John Hicks (who was claimed by Toronto.) It felt weird to do, because Hicks had been outplaying McCann. But the fans love McCann and they would have been very disappointed to see him go. Norris is hitting .182 in 7 games, though. C is a black hole right now.

Wilmer Font may be in the #5 starter slot, but don’t tell him that. He has a 3.37 ERA, currently best of our starters and he could play his way into a future on our team. Zimmerman has a decent 4.21 ERA, making his monster contract more stomach-able. Norris is still struggling with a 5.55 ERA. Preston Guilmet might be out best reliever right now; he has a 2.77 ERA in 21 games. Daniel Stumpf has brought his ERA down to 3.20, which means he could keep his spot for now.

Around the league, 67-42 Boston leads the ALE by 1 game over the 65-42 Yankees. Don’t write off the 61-46 Rays, though. They made an odd trade for Ryan Braun to signal they’re making a go of this pennant chase. The 71-33 Indians have the best record in the AL, but the 69-55 Twins are in striking distance. (4 games.) Despite all their injuries, the 59-50 Astros might be heating up (7-3 in L10.) They’re in the deepest division this year, though; surprising Oakland is 57-52 and only 2 GB, LA and 56-52 and 2.5 GB, and Texas is 56-53 behind them. It’s gonna be a fun race. The Twins and Yankees hold the WC spots. The Twins have a 3.5 game cushion. The Rays are 4 GB.

In the NL, the Mets are back on top of the NLE at 71-34. They’ve built up a 16 game lead over Washington (56-51.) The Cardinals lead the NLC at 64-42. The Cubs are 3GB at 61-46. Out west, the Dodgers have the best record in baseball at 74-33. Watch out for Arizona though. They’re 63-46 and 9-1 in their last 10. The Rockies have dropped off and the Giants’ attempt to party like it’s 2012 has failed miserably. (44-65.) Arizona only has a one game cushion on the top WC spot over the Cubs and the Nationals are 5GB.

Of course, to continue one of the season’s most notable themes, we continued to be hit hard by injuries. On 8.6, 8/7, and 8/8, we lost Alex Wilson (torn rotator cuff, 5 months,) Ben Revere (broken thumb, 4-5 weeks) as well as Miggy (hip strain, 4 weeks( and Wade Miley (forearm strain, 2 weeks.) In early August, we hit a 4-12 slump in which we lost 7 games in a row. Meanwhile, the Mets went undefeated from August 1 to Aug 18 on an incredible 16 game win streak.

But, we turned things around. Spencer Patton took Miley’s place in the rotation and kept playing well. When the calendar hit September, it was time to call up promising players from AAA and AA, as both affiliates had been eliminated from postseason contention. Before callus, Chad Huffman, Christin Stewart and Derek Norris had taken over at 1B, OF and DH, respectively, due to the injuries. Spencer Patton kept playing well despite an increased workload. Austin Adams took his spot as the closer and Preston Guilmet continued to impress as he rose up the BP depth chart.

The Cardinals had a 7 game lead on the second WC spot, which they choked away with a mediocre September.

Starting 2B Dixon Machado got hurt on the last day of September when he went down with a strained oblique. But, our Tigers fought on. We started September on a 7-2 stretch in which we won 6 in a row. Players kept dropping, as starting SS Iglesias went down on 9/14 with a strained hammy that ended his season. We climbed to 76-77 and kept inching closer to a .500 record. Spencer Patton went down with a torn rotator cuff on 9/21 that ended his season. He had a 2.31 ERA and hadn’t allowed a run since 8/25. The Tigers still fought on, as we climbed to 80-82 with two games left. We split those two games to finish exactly .500. I expected us to be among the worst in the league, especially after we traded away Moss and Martin. This team showed heart and grit and it was fun to see them fight to a .500 record.

We finished 10th in RS,7th in OBP, 4th in BA, 11th in HR and 9th in SB. Pitching wise, we ended the season 10th in RA, 10th in starters era and 14th in BP ERA. Our defense finished 10th in the AL.

Boston and NY battled all month long for the AL East lead. Boston even took the lead, but the Yankees eventually took the division crown.

The Cardinals and Nationals tied for the second WC spot so they played a tiebreaker game. Washington won 2-0 behind 6.1 shutout innings from Strasburg, a solo shot from Rendon and an RBI double from Harper.
Francisco Lindor and Joey Votto won the batting titles.




The Nationals beat the Diamondbacks 2-0 in the NLWC. Gonzalez threw 6 shutout innings and, despite being banged up, their bullpen has shutout the opposition in the tiebreaker game and the WC game. Doolittle sprained his ankle and he is DTD.

Banged up Boston (no Holt, Betts, Nunez, Porcello or Rodriguez) beat Minnesota (no Sano or Rosario) 3-2 in the ALWC. An RBI double by Benitendi in the 4th made all the difference. Sale shut the Twins down (10Ks) until the seventh, when he allowed solo shot. Kimbrel allowed a solo shot in his first AB and allowed the tying run to get on base. But Kevin Chapman got the last two outs.

The Indians swept Boston, whose injuries caught up with them, in the ALDS. The Yankees, without Severino, Chapman, Walker and Montgomery, beat the defending champion Astros in five games in the ALDS. Houston lost Springer to an injury in the series and they were without Altuve and Cole.

The Dodgers beat the Nationals in 4 games in the NLDS. Despite being completely healthy, the Mets fell to the Cubs in five games in the NLDS.

In the ALCS, The Yankees beat the Indians in 6 games but they lose Holder and Gardner during the series. The Dodgers beat the Cubs in 5 games in the NLCS.

World Series: Yankees v Dodgers
It was a great series and the Dodgers were on the verge of elimination but they forced a G7 and won that game 7-1 in front of the home crowd to win the championship. Stanton, MVP of the AL, the ALDS and the ALCS, went 0-4 with 3Ks and 3 LOB in G7. Kershaw threw 2 shutout innings out of the pen and Puig hit 2 solo shots in the crucial game 7.

Yeah, I stay playing Moneyball. I could have the largest payroll in the game and still be looking to shave $1MM here and $500K there.

Those 'extremely hard' guys can be difficult to deal with. Maybe you draft him again later?

So i just got this game and currently managing a Rookie league team called the Orem Owls, They are a affiliate for the LA Angels. Well i finally finished the first regular season with them and finished first in the division with a 42-33 record.

I am currently in the first round of playoffs now against the Ogden Raptors.

In game 1 the Raptors crushed the Owls 14-5

So my team had to regroup going into game 2 or go home.

Johnson, Owlz Wallop Raptors in Game 2 of R1
The Round 1 is tied at 1 games apiece, thanks to a dramatic walk-off victory at Brent Brown Ballpark today for the Orem Owlz.

23-year-old first baseman Kel Johnson was the star for Orem, as he was 4-5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 in the Brent Brown Ballpark contest. The 8-7 Orem triumph allowed the team to even the best-of-3 series with the Ogden Raptors at 1-1.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Orem trailing 7-6, Johnson hit a fastball from Zach Pop for a 2-run home run. Just like that, the Owlz had a walk-off win.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Johnson, "but a win in the playoffs is nothing to sniff at."

Game 3 is scheduled for tomorrow in Orem. The scheduled starters for the game are Dan Jagiello for Ogden and John Swanda for Orem.

I'm basically playing straight default settings.

Only differences:

-I used 2017 league totals. For me, the game had something different put in.

-I switch to 20-80 scales (because screw stars) for all ratings.

-Ratings relative to league checked - this is nice because you can switch on the player's profile. So if you're looking at a kid, you can see what his ratings are relative to whatever level. Helps you decide if he's ready or not.

-Overall based on all players.

-I put scout accuracy on high but I really don't see a difference between it and normal. I mean my scout thinks my RHB has a 30 contact vs LHP so... (his splits vs LHP are .371/.416/.612 so either he's the luckiest hitter ever or...yeah...)

-Decide what you want for auto-evolution. If you don't mind things changing on their own like relocation or expansion, you can just leave it all on or turn off whatever. I have expansion, FA minimum service, DL time, and active roster size turned on.

I'd recommend adjusting the AI Evaluation metrics. I think I did 50/35/15/5 based on other recommendations. I think it makes on-field performance a bigger factor than a guy being 5 stars or an 80 rated player with a 5+ ERA.

8-1 Over Nats on Final Day Seals It
Waiver Pick Up Tyler Glasnow Gets W

The Marlins missed the postseason but they had a goal the wanted to fight to achieve. For a while, it looked like .500 would be just out of reach. September wasn't a kind month to the team, but they never got down on each other or themselves.

Some players cooled off right at the end, especially Isan Diaz and Monte Harrison, along with the rotation. That all conspired to keep the Marlins below the break even point.

However, winning 5-of-6 in October sealed the deal - a stretch that was kicked off with a 17-inning 1-0 victory over the Padres at Petco Park. Lewis Brinson hit a homer to score the lone run of the game.

"Overall, we have to be happy with this season. We surprised some analysts, and that's thanks to everyone's hard work and pulling together. Hopefully, we can build on this and maybe get a playoff spot next season, " manager Don Mattingly commented.

The Marlins have some things still to focus on improving. First of all is finding some consistency. It's hard to plan for improvement when the same group of guys can play .250 ball (May) and .720 ball (July). They need to capture more of that good so the valleys won't be as deep and damaging to both record and morale.

Bullpen improved but it's still a work in progress. Gabriel Moya seemed to grow confident as team closer while Del Pozo seemed to settle in as a setup man or in any key moment in the game. Feierabend turned out to be disappointing, losing his rotation spot and still being inconsistent in the bullpen.

And the team will need to decide what to do with Jose Guzman once again. He wants to be a starter and after delivering 110 innings of relief with a 3.50 ERA and a 9.2 K/9 rate, it's hard to argue with him getting a chance. The problem? Who to displace. None of the starters really struggled, though Alcantara and Glasnow might be on the bubble, depending on how much stock the Marlins management puts in sabermetric stats and analytics. FIP, a stat that attempts to measure the pitcher's own performance independent of his team's defense, rates Glasnow and Alcantara as the weakest starters.

On the plus side, it seems the offense has taken shape. The Marlins were aggressive with the stolen bases and putting a lot of pressure on defenders when the ball is in play. Beating out hits, breaking up double plays, taking extra bases...the Marlins pushed on all these things frequently. Royce Lewis has the most steals on the team with 59, but it was Monte Harrison with the best success rate, swiping the bag 81% of the time (47 SB, 11 CS).

In addition, the team did well in getting on base in general, combining a nice mix of hits (4th in NL) and walks (7th in NL).

Power probably won't be a big part of that game plan. Diaz looks to be the new big slugger in the middle of the order and even then the 34 home runs he picked up are probably what to be expected. Bour probably should hit around 35 as well, provided he can bounce back from a below-standard year, and Siri could develop into a similar power bat, though he seems to hit more balls that sit right on the edge of line drive and fly ball so they don't have the arc or carry to clear the wall, cutting into his HR totals but increasing his doubles and triples as was the case this season.


Free Agents and Arbitration to Come:
Realmuto, Bour, and Dietrich head into their final arbitration years. Realmuto and Bour will likely to be offered arbitration and perhaps a longer contract. Prospects are slow coming at these two positions, and these two have proven good clubhouse citizens and on-field performers in most cases.

Dietrich might be more up in the air but K.L. might be likely to tender arbitration considering the outfield depth issues and the fact he likes that Dietrich gets hit by pitches a lot. Dietrich was plunked 27 times in 382 PA, a pace for 42 times in 600 PA.

The upcoming free agents include Miguel Rojas, Jose Urena, and Jumbo Diaz. Rojas probably won't get tendered. Urena might have...if he didn't completely come apart at the seams during that horrific May. Everyone struggled but Urena just collapsed. Not a good look, especially for a team that's likely still prone to inconsistency. Jumbo Diaz saw little usage in 2018 (3 innings at the ML level) and no innings at the majors this year. With so many relievers around, he probably will not be tendered.

Minors Results Review:

AAA-New Orleans saw the postseason under manager Joe Girardi. Unfortunately, they lost in the first round 3-1. C Oscar Hernandez was a key offensive player. The 26-year-old catcher lead the team with 18 HR.

AA-Jacksonville had a struggle of a season. Not a lot to write home about, and it's always bad when the most newsworthy thing that happened was that two of the team's prospect relievers suffered long-term injuries (Tyler Jay and on the final day of the season, Evan Beal went down, again, with a major arm injury).

High A-Jupiter had some good performances to be proud of. 3B James Nelson, of the team's better prospects, batted .317 as he continues his slow-but-steady progress up the system. P Robert Dugger, not a known prospect, had a solid season. He posted a 2.67 ERA in a swing man type role, showing good adaptability and teamwork.

A-Greensboro has several of the team's best prospects, so a disappointing season despite making it over .500. The team messed the playoffs and probably should have had a better record. Max Marusak posted just a 78 OPS+ on the year. Granted, he battled injury, but it's still a disappointing result. Concern is starting to grow as he's shown slow progress in turning his athleticism into baseball skills and production to this point.

SP Christian Sanchez also struggled, posting just a 4.88 ERA on the season. Scouts are starting to sour on last year's 2nd round pick, though at just 19, it's too early to write him off.

On the plus side, SP Jared Dixon did well with a 2.97 ERA, though his FIP presents some concern as it's far higher a 4.52...Walks were the big reason why but his stuff looks to be playing well and control often comes with experience and refinement, so the team is still thinking positively on their 1st overall pick.

Low A-Batavia made the postseason, but that did little to make P Bryan Hoeing's year look any better. He posted a poor 5.77 ERA...and that's a real concern. Hoeing is 22, so to see him struggling in the low minors when he should be relatively well developed as a pitcher is a flag in the mind of most of the Marlins talent evaluators. He will get the chance to show it was just a bad year, but he leaves much to prove.

Eri Yoshida had a pretty decent showing (better than Hoeing's), as she put up a 4.24 ERA and became ace of the staff. While it was known the Knuckle Princess was a finesse pitcher, a 2.3 K/9 rate is a bit more finesse than expected and the 4.4 BB/9 rate is not wonderful, though a little of that can be excused by being a knuckleballer...a little. Best stat for Yoshida? 2 HR allowed in 54 innings of work. That'll do.

At the All Star Break and doing surprisingly well! Not only meeting the Owner goal of not sucking, but am actually just 3 games out in the WC race to this point.

The team got off to a hot start in April and surprised everyone, but injuries to a hot Bruce Chen and Jeff Nelson slowed things down. Thankfully Nelson's injury wasn't terribly long term and Chen is due back soon.

I picked up Deion Sanders as planned and he has paid huge dividends, actually leading the NL in steals after replacing Michael Tucker in the lineup (more on that in a bit). I also just grabbed a recently released Sandy Alomar Jr. since Jose Molina is really struggling.

So, far I seemed to have hit on both Justice (All Star...peep the stats! His 13 HR in April fueled the team's launch out of the gates) and Sanders, though I haven't fully explored the market for them yet.

Dennys Reyes filled in for an injured Jeff Nelson at closer and has killed it, joining Justice to represent Carolina in the All Star Game. Nelson picked things back up nicely in the setup role after returning. The bullpen in general has been stellar...even better than I had imagined.

As for Tucker, he became a part of the saga of me trying to pick up Matt Morris...

Seeing the 24yo Morris available as a FA in the spring with his solid potential, decent enough measurables, and reasonable asking price of $1.6mil/year over 3 years made me jump at the chance to sign him.

Unfortunately, after hinting that he was close to signing, the Yankees came in at the last minute with a significantly higher bid and wouldn't back down. After a few weeks of us driving up prices on each other I balked at the $5.7mil annual salary over 4yrs. He signed with NY, and I went on about my business.

Well, Tucker was doing a solid job for me and Deion, despite not hitting for crap off the bench, was griping about his role. While I was contemplating how to appease Prime's desire to play more, the Yankees came calling with an offer.

Mr. Morris was getting lit up in the AL and the Yankees were having depth issues in the OF, with Chad Curtis struggling badly, and both O'Neil and Strawberry spending time on the DL. The were offering the struggling Morris for Tucker straight up.

Despite my interest, my issue with the salary hadn't changed, so I came back with a counter of them retaining 80% of the salary for Morris. I figured they'd come back with a counter offer I could live with. Instead, they didn't even hesitate and accepted the offer. So, I ended up with Morris after all, and even saved some money in the process! (Thank you for your contributions, Michael Tucker!)

With that, I put Deion in CF and the leadoff spot and, while he's not setting the world on fire with his bat, his wheels have given the team a new dynamic. Unfortunately, Morris is currently day to day with some soreness, but in his small sample with the team, he's not been the lemon he was in NY, at least.

Started my Franchise as a manager, and decided to go with the Dayton Dragons, as I wanted to stay in the Reds organization, and work my way up. Thought about taking the Louisville bats managers job, but Im a big fan of Pat Kelly, the Bats manager, as I think IRL, this yr if we dont start to see some significant progress the Reds should fire Price, and promote Pat Kelly. I watch a lot of MILB, over the past few seasons, with the MILB Pass, and Kelly is a excellent manager, so I didnt want to take his job, in my Franchise,lol.

Anyway, after the GM set my roster for me so I would know what players, I was going to open season with, and made my lineups and set my rotation, I was able to get a game.
Scott Moss, was my pick to start the season opener at Bowling Green, and other than giving up 3 solo HRs, 1 in the 1st and 2 in the 2nd, he settled down, and struck out 6 over 5 2/3 inning, before having to leave the game with a right shoulder strain. He left the game being down 3-2. But the Pen came in and did its job, and in the top of the 9th, Chris Okey hit a 2 run Homer, to put us up 4-3, and Ariel Hernandez locked the game down, by striking out the side after coming in, in the 9th with 2 men on base, and saved it for us.

Im just amazed at how much improvement has been made with OOTP19, since the last time I had bought it, which was in 15. This game is so addictive. The makers of OOTP baseball, really do a amazing job, with how indepth the game is. You truly do feel like your a manager of the team, and that your in game decisions, could cost you a game or win it.
And if you play as a GM, you get that same feeling, that the moves you make, can make you or break you.

I plan on doing a Franchise at a later date as the GM of the Reds, once some more patches come out, and they tweak the Opening Day rosters to the real life lineups for Opening day. Ill probably play this one, where Im just play the GM role, and let the manager manage the in game decisions, and lineup and rotations. While I strickly play the role that the GM does.


Debating on trying to find a Online Franchise, Ive never been a online player with anything, but doing it with OOTP might actually be fun, because it has nothing to do with your stick skills, like a console game. With OOTP, its about who makes the best in game decisions, and who does the best in building and sustaining its organization. I cant decide, if I want to do that or not. I know the only way I would consider it, is if I was the Reds, as I wouldnt want to be any other team.

I used to play a lot of online leagues with OOTP. It's pretty cool if you find one that uses rules you can get along with and fits your time availability.
