    MLB: The Show vs. 2K6

I am a huge MVP fan but with no MVP this year for MLB, I am stuck wondering which game to get for the PlayStation 2.

    2K6
    PROS
-WBC integration (not sure if The Show has it or not)
-Graphics (Which are X-Box and which are PS2?)
    -Collision detection
    -In-Depth Scouting Reports
    -Smooth Presentation
-Load and Fire Swing (I am really starting to like this on NCAA)
-Online Scouting (see which guys bring in SP as relievers)
-Inside Edge (I like some facets of this, including the catcher setting up where you should aim; that is cool)

    CONS
-Inside Edge (I could do without all the percentages on screen, I hope is optional)
-Load and Fire Swing (it's implementation is a bit off from NCAA; pull back and let go for contact swing; pull back and push up for power)
-Lack of Pitch and Throw Meters (I feel these should be standard, or at least an option)

    What is the Slam Zone?

    MLB: The Show '06
    PROS
-Smaller, tighter scoreboard during gameplay (I despise the scrolls)
-40-Man Rosters (FINALLY! I just hope this applies to roster files as well)
-Swing System (I can settle for this because I used to play the 989 series a lot)
-King of the Diamond (I love these small games like the hitting one)
-Presentation (looks slick, I like it, a definite step up from previous years)
-Career Mode (I love the individual stuff because I like making myself)

    CONS
-Graphics (appear unchanged from PS1 days if you ask me; does not stack up with 2K6)
-Swing System (I would much prefer the Load and Fire type)
-Talk of "Bugs and Glitches" in terms of stadiums and player models
    -AI problems
-No WBC integration (that I am aware of, if you know otherwise, let me know)

I realize it is difficult to compare a game that IS released and another that is still pending. However, I hope this thread gets a discussion about these two games because I am really scratching my head on which one to get.

its a no brainer...if you only have a ps2 mlb06 the show...but if you own a 360...maybe 2k6 would be an option too?.....mlb06 is best game i have ever played...but its hard to look at after playing the 360...but aside from the ps2 graphics...this is the best game(ever) baseball title that is to hit the consoles.....

      CONS:

-Lack of Pitch and Throw Meters (I feel these should be standard, or at least an option)
Just so you know, it's been confirmed that there is both a pitching meter and fielding throw meter in the game. For the pitching meter you just have to change the sliders. The throw meter has been shown in many videos. I have yet to see or hear about any throw meter for fielding in The Show.

      MLB 2k6 Preview

"MLB 2K6 even tracks the number of times you argue with the ump on blown calls (and how hot under the collar you get while doing so!), the average number of steps you take when leading off a base, and the amount of showboating you do when fielding balls. In all, the game tracks more than 250 statistics and tendencies to give you the most accurate picture of an opponent's style ever seen in a console baseball game."
"On the mound, the 2K development team has bypassed last year's K-Zone innovation for a new pitching system that puts a premium on spotting pitches. Don't worry, you can still turn on K-Zone pitching if you like, or even use an MVP-style meter for true old-schoolers. But the new pitching meter is interesting and bears mention here. Most importantly, as opposed to aiming the pitch cursor to where you want the ball to land, the cursor now indicates where the pitch will break. In effect, you're spotting your pitches the way real major leaguers do it. To assist you, you can bring up a handy guide that will show you the direction your slider or curve will break. From there, it's a simple two-button mechanic to get your pitch off. All you have to do is press and hold the button down to determine the power of the pitch, which is indicated by an expanding halo around the ball. The bigger the halo, the harder the throw (or more break, as the case may be). As the halo rapidly contracts back toward center, you hit the button once more to let the pitch fly. Your degree of accuracy in stopping the halo will determine how accurate your pitch is. There's also a payoff pitch feature that lets you call your shot against a batter with two strikes against him. Make the pitch, and you'll get a slight bonus on that pitch for the rest of the game. Miss it and, well...you don't want to miss it. That would be bad luck."
"The franchise mode has also received some upgrades, including a greatly enhanced trade tool that makes deal-making easier than ever before. Whether you're looking to sign new talent, or offload one of your salary-chewing veterans, the new trade-finder makes finding deals and signing talent easier than ever. You can put up a player on the trade block and tell the system exactly what you're looking for in terms of trade value--and you'll instantly get responses back from interested teams. No more going team by team to try to make something happen by trial and error--here, the trades more or less come to you, dictated by the terms you set."
"MLB 2K6's franchise mode has also upped the ante when it comes to team chemistry. For example, you'll be able to see exactly how each player on your roster feels about practically everything going on with the team--from his playing time, to his current contract, to his position in the batting order. Better yet, if your number-six hitter wants to be moved up to the number-four slot--and you grant his wish--you'll immediately see his feedback change to a more-positive slant on things (of course, you'll now have a problem with your old cleanup hitter). Furthermore, as manager, you can call weekly team meetings where you can make a speech to try to turn around your team should they meet with a slump. Here you can offer everything from loving encouragement to nasty chew-out sessions and everything in between. You can even insult the mothers of every player on your team. No, we're not making that up. We saw it happen during our demo and saw the players' reactions to their managers' painful insults. Some didn't take it so well, while others found it to be an effective motivational tactic. Go figure."
As you mention, the swing stick mechanic is interesting. People have been complaining about the ammount of home runs hit in the videos for 2k6...being that the people playing the game couldn't pitch, it's more than likely they were swinging for the fences every time.

most of everything that people have been dissatisfied with in the videos for 2k6 can be explained by human error, people playing the game who just suck at it. I wouldn't pass udgement on it for the current gen systems, even PS2, before even getting an accurate idea of what it has to offer. I think it's going to suprise a lot of people who are expecting it to be awful. IMHO it has the potential to be much better than the Show.

Personally, I'm going to get it for my PS2 when it comes out.

This years MLB2k6 isn't out yet. Nobody knows what they have done, and whether or not it "works".

The combinaton of graphics/animations in The Show, imo, puts MLB2k5 to shame and from the videos I've seen so far of MLB2k6 (for the xbox) the animations are still in need of an overhaul, all though they have added some new stuff.

if by calling me blackface was an insult than you really need to check yourself. You said it, not I about the graphics. Sounds like 2K6 already won for you. Congratulations!

First, I misread your name. It is nothing more than that.

Secondly, nothing has won just yet. Although at the time it seems that I am leaning in that direction.

Why dont you rent The Show and play that. And then rent 2k6 when it comes out. And choose which you like more.

I'm probably going to do that especially after I read the "Little Things" thread about MLB: The Show. It sounds awesome, sans the roster editing issues.

I just wanted to get an idea from 2k5 players and those who have played MLB: The Show (or both) by throwing out what I like from the reviews.

Re: MLB: The Show vs. 2K6

Ah, this is an all-too-familiar situation for myself. I'm constantly changing baseball games every couple of years or so, call me an anti-fanboy, heh. To give you an idea, my baseball video game evolution:
                    Hardball 2/3(PC)-RBI (Genesis)-Ken Griffey (SNES)-World Series Baseball (Genesis/Sega CD)-Triple Play (PSX)-World Series Baseball (Dreamcast)-High Heat (PS2)-MVP (Xbox)-???

Never really been a fan of the 989 Sports games, but from everything I've read, it looks like the past two iterations of MLB have been pretty damn good. Haven't been a fan of the WSB/MLB 2K games since their reign on Dreamcast, so I'm not sure about this year's game either. Once MLB 2K6 finally comes out (which will be after the WBC apparently, blasphemous), I'll rent that for Xbox and MLB 06 for PS2, and judge them for myself.
