Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
I'm doin a league with some of my buddies this year. Most of the team is just gonna be 18-20 year olds, but some of my friend's dad's friends are gonna be playing on the team to. I'm probably gonna be the pitcher after a few games. We have some kids who are damn good on the team and then people like me, haha. I think we'll probably be around .500, but who knows. I need a new gloveComment

Originally posted by NCoffeyI have been hitting a lot these past few days, I am swinging stronger than ever and the Rayzer just adds to it, I started a routine where I do 3 sets of 5 balls...I start with a 28 oz Worth (I think Powercell) hit the best 5 balls in my bag, then move to a 26 oz Worth Supercell and hit 5 decent (condition wise) balls, then I move to the Rayzer and hit 5 old "mush" balls...I retrieve the balls after each set (5 balls), sprint to them and throw them home then sprint back then put them in the bag and move to the next set. I close out the session with 5 of my best balls on the Rayzer. I think this will be my strongest year yet (knock on wood) at the plate, fielding however...I really need to work on fielding ground balls, I can catch well but for whatever reason grounders beat me up all day...for some reason I am scared of the ball when it starts hopping my way, I can see it coming and say to myself that there is nothing to be scred of, then it still gets me....I can catch a rocket line shot at my head, but a damn grounder kills me...it sucks, I need to get one of my teammates to work with me for a solid hour just working on grounders or something...maybe i should try hypnosis and have them remove my fear of grounders...
any tips for fielding grounders? I am sure I have heard them all, but none have sunk in well enough i guess.Comment

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
I am 33 and this is my 15th and last year of softball!
I play on a highly competitive team, we have won 2 Cincinnati Metro championships. We won the B in 2000 and we just won the A Metro last year.
We also placed 3 in the B World in 2002 and second in the A world in 2004. Softball in huge in Cincy and we play 3 nights a week and every weekend. My wife has grown tired of it so like I said this will be my last year.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
I like softball, but I don't think I could play year-round at least 3 nights a week like many of the guys around here do. I might consider playing in a fall league depending on my work and relationship status come then...but I know some guys who when they aren't playing they are at work, sleeping, eating, or working out/practicing...its crazy.
We started up last nite and won 17-1 in 5 innings...I was aweful at the plate, I took my head out on the first one and was thrown out at 1st, then I took my eye off the ball my 2nd time up and grounded out again...then I got walked my 3rd time up...I had been hitting so well in the cage the past 2 days I think a huge part of it was being so anxious because it was the first game...hopefully I can pick it up and do better tomorrow...I did make a catch in right field....I was happy with the game more because it was my first game as the coach so I set the lineup and it worked very well (obviously).Comment

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
I tried joining a team in my town last year but it was godawful. I showed up for two games and quit and went back to the playground to play ball everyday after work instead."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Another good bat out there is the Demarini White Steel. It's a single wall bat. You can pick it up for around $150. A friend of mine has one and that thing doesn't need much break in. I hit a dinger only 5 swings outta the wrappper with it. Oh...It is NOT a cold weather bat.Comment

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
I am ready for softball!! I was on a B level team last year and they split up this year. I put myself on a free agent list and tried out for an A level team and made it. I will be the starting first baseman for them. This league uses composite bats and has me a little nervous. Otherwise I am juiced! Play ball!!“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
It's legal in all leagues. ASA, NSA, USSSA, and anothers stamps are all on the bat.
As for me, I am currently playing in 2 ASA leagues and 1 NSA league. Come the end of May I will probably continue to play in the NSA just to have as a filler between my other leagues. I haven't decided yet. One reason I am just helping them out because they were short players and 2. I don't really care for the coach. It's a chick trying to coach a mens rec. league. The bitch needs to settle down a little and stop taking it so serious.Comment

Yea, I must have been thinking of another bat.
We won again tonight 17-5, I had some catches in RC...I had one solid shot then a weak grounder I beat out...then struck out looking...my nerves are still bad for whatever reason, hopefully I can get over it by tuesday. I hurt my quad a few weeks ago on my back leg and re-agrivated it the last game and it is still bothering me, hopefully it will be better by Tuesday.Comment

Re: Its allmost that time...to start up Softball...
After last night I will always make sure my nails are cut before each game....the pitcher of one of the teams that played after us pitched a ball, had a solid grounder hit back at him...it hopped and somehow hit his finger at sunch an angle that it bent the nail practically off his finger...not a good sight, it was covered in blood, but he sucked it up and bandaged it and put a batters glove over it and finished the game...AND got the win after making a decent comeback.
btw...we are the only team without a loss in our league at the moment.Comment
