Thanks for the suggesstion but it's so much nicer having a graphical interface and being able to watch things unfold on the field.

I would also be interested in hearing your thought on the fielding cam and the slow pitch vs fast pitch. I have suspected that there may be a difference in gameplay depending on the camera angle that you use. I know the pitch speed makes a difference. Ive been playing my expansion franchise pretty steady and my team is still doing quite well. I will have to post an update before the all star break.
The Dynasty section is on the main page down near the bottom. In regards to the Fielder cam, I started a game and forgot to switch from the fielder cam to the classic cam. Well, the first batter put a ball down the RF line and I noticed the runner attempted to stretch it to a double when normally they would have not even thought about it. I played the whole game from the cam, and thought the baserunning was much better. I still saw some questionable stuff every once and a while, but overall it was better. The settings I play with are like this:

      Manage Mode
      Pitch Speed: Slow
Batting: 3-D Cursor (I don't see those swings at pitches way out of the zone)
      Pitching, Batting aids: off
      Fielding: Auto
      Ball glow: off
Baserunning: classic (I also think the baserunning is better on classic instead of normal)

It's pretty sweet... and perhaps you guys would like it.
Ya, it is a good game. I actually have the demo of it, but as mentioned, I really like being able to watch the game be played out graphically as well.

Did you edit any player atributes in your franchise such as arm strength? I read that people have done that before with success. What did your final record end up being?

Nah, I didn't edit anyone's ratings. I have read all of Jim's and Knight's work on that, but I want to play multiple seasons. I just don't have the time to edit every player's attributes, and I actually don't think the game plays that poorly as it is. My final record ended up being 85-78, counting the one game playoff. I am compiling all the stats in a document on my computer before I advance to the next season for posterity sake, so I'll post them once I have them all done.

Very promising. I might have to run out this weekend and get this game. I'm sure that I can find it used somewhere for less that $10. Did you find that you had too many K's in the game?

Using the default settings there were too many K's. The key is pitching the pitch speed to slow and changing the batting style to 3D cursor. Makes a ton of difference. I am like 11th in the NL in strikeouts so far.

Cool, that sounds promising. I'm assuming that there are no differences between the PS2 and XBOX right? One doesn't play better than the other, does it (in terms of manage only).

Also, were there any show stopping franchise bugs? IE. unrealistic trades, bad progression, poor FA decisions by the AI, bad drafting?

Honestly, I don't care if I'm playing with 2004 rosters and outdated graphics. If I can get an honest manage only mode experience, with the franchise to go with it, I may never play another baseball game again.

So far I am honestly blown away by the franchise mode. There are trades, but they make sense, and I didn't really see any major players traded at all (only one was Clemens. Houston traded him to Baltimore for a bunch of prospects.) I am not sure how progression is because I just finished my first year. The drafting seems solid, and the CPU roster management is awesome.

Just picked up a copy of ASB 05 for $9.99 at my local Gamestop. Thanks for all the hard work everyone has done to get this game playable from a manage only mode perspective. Hope to be playing this one for years!

Be sure to check out my first 2 posts on this thread. Good idea to set some ground rules as there are some holes in the AI.

I upgraded to a 360 a while ago and when I got rid of my XBox this was the only game I kept. I am not hooked up to XBox live so I can't update my 360 to be BC compatible, but when I do I will fire this one up. This was such a great manage mode only game...the gameplay wasn't the best, but the franchise and baseball feel were far and away the best.

BTW, how is your season with the Bucs going?

I still play this game regularly. I have continued to tweak the settings and player attributes and it really is a great game of baseball.

Finished that season with the Pirates at 93-69 - good for 2nd in the Central and a wild card berth. Beat Arizona 3-1 in the wild card round then played the powerhouse Cubbies in the NLCS who won 108 games in the regular season. True to form, they dominated the first 3 games and all looked bleak. But we scarped our way to 3 straight close victories to force a game 7 at Wrigley. Unfortunately Prior completely shut us down with a complete game 3 hit shutout to end our season. Very entertaining season, very fun game.

I still play this game and I really enjoy it. I am curious though about how you manage only guys feel about the pitcher fatigue in the game. I love to play manage only baseball games, but I quickly became frustrated with this one when my starters were regularly gassed by the third or fourth inning. I switched over and began playing it manually and my starters didn't throw as many pitches and were able to make it to the 6th or sometimes seventh inning. I've played it manually ever since and I think it plays a great game of baseball.
Have you guys noticed the pitchers regularly getting fatigued early in manage only mode? and if so have you found a way to work around it?
