Re: high heat 2003 or 2004?
Thank you all for the replies! Appreciate it.
BSB - I have it for the PS2. I'm looking for a PC version, but my PC is a piece of crap and it has trouble running Hardball 5, so I doubt it would run HH. I may as well stick with the PS2 version - I am very happy with it, but the PC version would give me some old stadiums like Ebbets and Polo Grounds. I hope you get your game soon - it WILL feel like a whole new game. I think you'll be happy. Rosters are waaay outdated. I never realized the turnover in baseball was THAT huge until I started working on my rosters a couple of weeks ago.
Miget and boomhauertjs - Thank you for pointing me in the right direction as well as the links. I was thinking of picking up a sharkport and this clinched it for me. Can I do other stuff with the sharkport with other games like NFL 2K5 or NHL 2K4?
As far as sliders for HH: I don't know if anyone has sliders posted at BB SimCentral or if they are gone, but to me, there wasn't a whole lot of tweaking to be done with this game. I think my only adjustments were +1 for foul balls and maybe one click up for power. I was pretty happy with it out of the box, but try out a few and see what works best for you.
I thought I was the only one still doing my season with this game. Glad to see you fellas like it too. Opinions: Do you guys think the games today really are not much better than what we had a few years ago? It sorta struck me that 10 years ago, Hardball was out for the PSOne and you could do all sorts of stuff with it. It had CUSTOM OF alignments and even had a setting for humidity which affected home runs. It had in game saves and you could save highlights. Custom season length and re-alignment, too. None of todays games do that except Sega with its in game saves. Maybe I'm just getting old and nostalgic, but why isn't this stuff in todays games? They don't seem to let us customize as much as they used to. Ok, time for my nap!!!
Thanks, guys!

It seems like out of the box todays game just dont play as good as they used to. It seems like I have to do a ton of tweaking with todays games. Part of that may be that sports games dont have the competition they once did. When I think of all the franchises that are still releasing a new game every year, and I think of wich one is my favorite version, it is always an older version when you would think it would always be the newest one.
Anyway, good games know no age and I dont mind playing an older game when everyone else seems to be playing the "new" ones. I'm dont even care all that much about outdated rosters, I'll just do a fantasy draft.
Long live old but great games.Comment

Re: high heat 2003 or 2004?
Bsb: Thanks for the reply. Glad to know I'm not the only one seeing things like that. I may even fire up Hardball 99 for the PS1 tonight!
Spent a ton of time on rosters for 2004 last night. Looking forward to getting a sharkport - I hope that makes things easier.
Back to the topic - I think 2003 and 2004 both play pretty good baseball and are quite similar. I do think 2003 has a bit of an edge in gameplay. But not enough for a knockout. The thing that clinches it for 2004 is the three minor league levels and being able to edit players throughout the year. And having an option for a four man rotation is nice, too. Can't go wrong with either one, but I give the edge to 2004.

Re: high heat 2003 or 2004?
Count me in on the High Heat bandwagon. I popped 2004 into my Xbox about 3 weeks ago and I've been playing it everyday since. I spent many hours playing MVP 2005, but there is something about High Heat that just nails the flow and strategy of a real baseball game. I love that I can unintentionally walk people when my pitcher's not in top form. I love the hitter/batter interface and how you really have to work counts to get hits and how you have to mix up your pitches with certain hitters to get outs. One of the ironies of High Heat is that it includes a ton of sliders to tweak gameplay, but it actually plays an excellent game of baseball right out of the box on standard difficulty levels. Even though the graphics are old, the "High Heat" gameplay is still unbeatable. Although I've heard The Show is excellent, I really cant justify spending over $500 to play one game, especially the older I get and the less time I have for sports gaming.
Anyway, it's great to find this post. Put me down for 2004 over 2003. Along with the more extensive options that have been covered (full minor leagues) I think the graphics are a little crisper and the gameplay is a little more solid.Last edited by guillermo123; 03-22-2008, 11:24 AM.Comment

Re: high heat 2003 or 2004?
Well if there is still enough people playing High Heat 2004 I wonder if maybe we should make something like a "High Heat 2004 Anything & Everything" thread for people to discuss everything thats going on for them in 2008 with the game. Just to be able to discuss settings, franchise, stats or whatever and just to have something to talk about for those of us still playing the game.Comment

Re: high heat 2003 or 2004?
You guys rule!
Guillermo - great post, dude! You nailed it - there is just something about this game that just feels smooth as a real baseball game. To me, it captures the angles and strategy of a real game. Baseball is a deep game and you gotta THINK. HH makes you do this. It just nails the pitch sequences so sweet! As a pitcher, you can't follow the same sequence with every batter. You gotta mix it up. You have to THINK like a real pitcher. And what you said about hitting is spot on. You HAVE to work the count. I read the posts in THe Show about guys debating the guess pitch feature. In the Show, Guess pitch seems cheesy. In HH, it works! The CPU doesn't tell you if you were correct. But you KNOW it if you are which is sweeeet!!!! HH captures the drama of baseball. I can remember going to work the next day and still being furious over a loss. Not at the CPU or because I got cheated. But because I did something dumb like a bad pitching change or a dumb pitch or I swung at ball 4 or something. Guillermo, you put into words alot of what I was thinking!
BSB - Great idea. I wonder how many others are sticking with HH. I guess at the very least we can just keep this thread going.
Blue and Gold - You are playing this on the 360? You lead me to a question: Others here have talked about the Freezing issues on the PS2. Does the XBox version have the same issues. I, too, have experienced this problem and if the XBox version is free of this, maybe it would be worth it to pick up an XBox and this version. Any of you HH Xboxers have any comments on this?
Thanks fellas.

Re: high heat 2003 or 2004?
sergeantv: I've had no freezing issues at all with HH 2004 on my original XBOX. The graphics are crisp and clean and the framerate is nice and steady. Coming from someone that grew up with sports games on NES/SNES/Sega-Genesis/PS1, the graphics really don't bother me that much.
bsb13: I'd love to see a "High Heat" thread. I'm not the most computer literate person, but if you started a thread I would be happy to post there. It could be a nice way for those that still play the game to share slider information and/or franchise strategy.
bluengold34: It would be great to get some updated rosters for the game, although I'm not sure how to get them onto my old XBOX. I've never understood how people can get updated roster files from the internet to the XBOX? Maybe you could help a fellow Cubs/Notre Dame fan out?
Glad to know that there are others out there that share my love for High Heat baseball. I seem to remember hearing something about Microsoft purchasing the rights (or code?) for the High Heat series once 3DO went bankrupt. I can only dream of a "new" version of High Heat with updated rosters/graphics. I really don't think they would need to change a single thing with the gameplay.Comment
