I heard that zone hitting was broke in this game, is that true? because if it works properly, i might pick this game up. I couldnt stand cursor hitting in all-star baseball and thats what keep me away from the series.

It has been a while, but I am pretty sure the Zone hitting wasn't very playable. It was way too easy. Cursor hitting was the only way to go.

After reading the entire MLB 2k7 thread, I find it amazing how little this game was regarded. I remeber choosing this game over MVP and never really looking back. Although I have lately thought about picking MVP 05 up just because of all the comments. i've always believed that with a bit flashier presentation, that this game could hve been a real competitor. But it seems like, in view of popular opinion, I might have been wrong.

Yeah, you wonder if that might have been fixed with '06 or '07 versions. I really miss those days of competition and multiple choices.

There was never an '06 version planned b/c the company went out of business.

I remember ASB_Man mentioning they couldn't get rid of the "crouch" because it was to central in all of the fielders animations. I remember in '05 they minimized it... but I would have been able to deal with that if they could clean up other things, like the dive and jump animations. They were so slow, drawn out and unorthodox that using them was pretty much, well... pointless.

Yeah, I know about '06 and Acclaim going out of business. Guess I was combining a couple different thoughts in there. Aside from the licensing junk, it is too bad Acclaim sank....2003 and 2004 were good years for gaming with several choices for each sport.

I also recall some frustrations with infielder animations.....Like a picther tossing the ball to third from short range, and having the baserunner from 45 feet away beat it out. And the jedi suction catches were shaky. But man, I loved that atmosphere. Great stadiums, great announcing.

Agreed. I forgot about the suction catches... those were actually REAAAALLY bad.... lol.. you'd have an infielder run past the ball, reach down into the air, and magically pull up a ball... oh man... that was tough to swallow.

Actually, I believe a good portion of the 06 version was complete just before they closed. It was also commented on that the suction problem was fixed! Unfortunately a little too late!

I just bought a cheap copy of this game today and it really isnt that bad. I am struggling with cursor hitting though, so could anyone give me some tips? It seems like I will press the analog stick all the way down but the cursor will only move a little bit. Do you have to move your cursor right before you swing? because it seems like it wont let the cursor move anymore once a swing has started. I tell ya, it feels weird playing a game with cursor hitting again. You have to be so much more precise with the thing.

I switched to MLB the Show full time after playing ASB 2004.....it was tooooo buggy......

ASB2003 is one of my favorite Baseball games of all time...and I might have it somewhere around here.....Graphics were great....but it was the little things the game had, that I loved......

there was nothing like facing Randy Johnson with that little curser and trying to hit is Fastball or Slider........but when u did get a hit it was VERY satisfying......

so someone tell me.....what did I miss in ASB2005 compared to 2003?..... I tried it at the stores but it seem like a different game.....it looked like they used a different graphics engine......it looked more cartoony on the XBOX I tried it on....

Check out the 5th picture...The one of the Green Monster. I would say that is better than any green monster that EA or 2K was ever able to come up with. Note also that the scoreboard was in real-time, and if it were in franchise mode, the out of town scores would also be real time. ASB nailed this aspect as far back as 2003.

Now that I'm getting the hang of cursor hitting this game may be the best $5 I ever spent. Hit variety is alot better than I thought it was going to be. Stadiums are pretty and there are a lot of fun little extras. Last time I played a all-star baseball game I didnt enjoy it that much, but I really like it this time around. When a pitcher who throws hard heat is on the mound it takes on a whole new meaning than when a pitcher like that takes the mound in most baseball games.

Edit...The game doesnt have gameplay sliders to drive me nuts with either. Which is good.
