ASB Pitch Speed
There might not be a problem with the actual speed of the pitch as much as it is the amount of time the game lets you see the pitch icon. The icon is displayed at the time when the ball is about to leave the pitchers hand wich would give the feeling one must swing before the ball leaves the pitchers hand. MLB has about the same pitch speed as ASB but they show the icon much earlier providing time to line up the hitting cursor. If ASB would show the icon earlier on the Rookie and Veteran levels and leave the All Star level in its current state, the pitch speed would seem slower. The ball does need to have some "gety up" on it, and shouldn't float to the plate.Tags: None -
Re: ASB Pitch Speed
I found that if you just keep your batting icon in the middle of the zone and tilt the icon in the direction you wan to hit then eventually, in an at bat, the pitcher will throw at least one pitch down the middleMember of the OS Rams Club -
Re: ASB Pitch Speed
You had to be a damn psychic to hit the ball on ASB. I was swinging damn near before the pitcher was releasing the ball. It was too fast for me."I've Altered The Deal..."Comment

Re: ASB Pitch Speed
I disagree.
Even though I struck out about 10 times a game, I found myself hitting at least 5 homeruns a game.
It was too easy to wait for the best pitch and just swing at it. Just shows that the AI doesnt really learn your tendencies.
If your strategy is to wait for a pitch right down the middle b/c the pitcher ALWAYS throws one, then there is a HUGE gameplay issue in ASB. Hopefully that's fixed.
Yes the pitch speed needs to slow down, but I hope they dont slow it down too much. If the CPU throws more balls and is inaccurate some of the time, then the pitch speed wouldn't be a problem. But I do not want to see the pitch speed slowed down just so we can hit 4 homeruns a game just like in WSB.
In my opinion, I don't care what anyone says, there was no real simulation baseball game last year. They were all too easy to hit homeruns and beat the CPU. Have you ever played High Heat?
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
yes, I did. I think the stats are realistic when you SIM a season, but playing...the stats are ridiculous as well. there are too many holes in the stat engine in High Heat.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's the most realistic of ALL the baseball titles out there. I absolutely loved the realism in the game. But there are still many problems with the stat engine.
That being said. I don't feel any of the baseball games were realistic enough. Some came close (High Heat) but they all need work. And yes I understand that these companies are tryin and they release new versions every year to improve it, and I respect that, but the point is if they got it right the first time, then they wouldn't need to fix the gameplay every year.
I know my argument doesn't make sense b/c of the limitations of technology. But you take it for what it's worth.
I agree that High Heat is the most realistic baseball game out there (outside of OOTP). But I would never settle down until gameplay is close to perfect. Mistakes can be made. But if runners on third still don't know how to tag up on a sac fly situation, then much needs to be improved."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: ASB Pitch Speed
I can't recall when HH ever failed to tag a runner from 3rd unless the fly was not hit deep. I realize the AI isn't perfect, but when it drops a suicide squeeze on you with the game tied in the 9th,that tends to grab your attention.Comment

Re: ASB Pitch Speed
oh nah, it was just an example about baseball games overall.
I'm just sayin that there is always some kind of baserunning issue with a game.
Like I said, High Heat does a great job with gameplay. My only gripe is the stat engine.
Maybe me sayin there wasnt a realistic game on the market last year was a little too far. I think all the games, with the exception of Triple Play, pushed for a simulation. There just needs to be more fixes to the gameplay.
It really bothers me that these companies are tryin to come up with all new presentation screens with beautiful colors, negro league players, stadium intros, new commentary, etc.
I respect the fact that 3DO seems to be the most focused on producing the most realistic baseball game in terms of gameplay.
they are close. they are gettin there."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: ASB Pitch Speed
I will never, ever, not 'til the day I die understand how HH is regarded as realistic.... never.
As far as adding things like new presentations and modes and what-not... game companies have to. The product has to keep evolving or there is no reason to buy it year after year. Why did HH add all new graphics this year if they were already the best game on the market and graphics don't mean anything? Because it isn't the best game on the market and graphics/presentation do mean something, that's why.
Every game has its quirks or things it does better than the others.... but I still have yet to be convinced of HH's prowess as a baseball sim.Comment
