    thoughts on ASB/WSB+questions (graphics related)

Hi as you can see i'm new here, but i've been lurking on these forums for a long time. In fact it was the vast majority of ppl here that made me a SEGA SPORTS fan. Anyways on to the post at hand.

STADIUMS: ASB seems to have the edge in stadium models. They have captured the essence of the stadiums i've seen so far however WSB seems to have more detail with other things related to the stadiums. (like the big apple at Shea and the train at Minute Maid) WSB's stadiums look a bit big and slightly cartoony to me...that is until I saw the screenshot of the Polo Grounds! Wow that was gorgeaus! I wonder if they'll have Ebbetts Field in the game?

Anyways I was thinking of something interesting for ballpark atmosphere but wouldn't it be cool if during a blowout there would be a cutscene of fans playing with a beach ball and it rolling on the outfield? I do have one question tho, does any of the games have park specific chants etc? You know like the chants for Yankee players and the drums at Oakland.

UNIFORMS: This is almost as important as gameplay to me in a game where a season is 162 games long. Seems to me that WSB has better variety of uniforms with the regular, alt, and 3 throwbacks. I did read in the PJ Snavely interview that a team would get at least one throwback in ASB....wonder how much throwbacks would be the max for a team? Anyways uniform accuracy is a big thing for me and the SEGA titles get these right for the most part (cept for minute details) so which franchise (ASB/WSB) has better accuracy?

MISC. I just love the behind the pitcher view! WOOHOO WSB! I don't know why the ASB people are so against that view as it would really up the realism of the game. I also dislike the squating in ASB...sadly they didn't fix that. All in all, I think i'm going to purchase both WSB and ASB. I just thought i'd give some graphical opinions with a couple questions. Thanks for reading.

Good post! You expressed your opinions thoroughly and fair. I agree with the WSB attention to stadium detail and the ASB overall stadium graphics. Both games should be hits and will most likely be the two best games - of course we have to watch out for MVP Baseball.

I didn't really pay much attention to ASB squatting until it was brought up a lot this week. I guess its one of the things they need to work on, but I don't see it as a priority yet in their gameplay, however it should be easy to fix. Continue posting and enjoy the Operation Sports Forums

I agree. The behind the pitcher view looks great! Still boggles the mind why so many other baseball games of recent, have decided not to include this point of view.

Btw, nice to see someone from Toronto posting. Enjoy your stay and post away!

They will not fix the squatting if they think it will not affect their wallets. They want to make money not a baseball game. That is why they put 8 million features in the game because it sales. What bothers me, is they have good idle animations already in the game. Take a look at the first and third base coach. Arms folded, kicking the grass, yet the fielders look like their....well you get the idea. I like ASB but I'm considering going to WSB just because I hate the squatting. Its doesn't really hurt the play mechanics but it hurst visually. So my biggest gripe in not the squatting, but that it is so easy to fix and they won't do it. It the same thing they said about the behind the pitcher view, their not big fans of it. Excuse me, I thought we where the customers. On their website, they promised idle infielder animations. What is that? I thought they fixed the squatting but their it is in all of the movies and pics. So I guess idle infielder animations=squatting. I like ASB but the designers have their way of doing things and the customer is never right. Bring on WSB!

if guru did work for acclaim he seemed to defend the squatting an awful lot in his post. maybe they really are incapable of removing it? i would think that after three years if they could do it they would have. i think its here to stay. we just need to get used to players looking like their taking a dump during a game on those good looking fields.

btw i think guru actually works for 3DO and was using jedi mind tricks to get us to hate ASB by pushing it on us.

The stadiums frustrated me last year in High Heat. Its and fun game that produces realistic stats and doesn't squat. A huge plus. If they ever fix Comerica Park, I would give them another look.

Well not to start anything but the purpose of my thread was to discuss what I thought of the 2 (what should be) best games graphically. HIGH HEAT isn't exactly the most graphically exciting game in the world. The screenshots also don't exactly have me jumping out of my seat either however it's most likely going to get a rental from me.
