This is a really good game.

    I only have three gripes...

    1) Not very many walks at all

    2) No check swings...out of all the things this game includes...how can it not have this?

    3) Kiddie graphics

Has there be any discussions about putting this game on the PS3?

I doubt it because Pawapuro/Power Pros is only released for the PS2 in Japan while the Pro Yakyu Spirits is released for the PS3. It all depends if Konami decides to release it for the PS3 in Japan. Konami announced a verison of Power Pros for the PS3 but that was in 2005, so nothing has materialized out of that since then.

The "kiddie graphics" are one of the game's best features IMO. Super realistic 3D can be a bit played out.

Just picked this game up today, have a few questions.

First of all, is there any way to get rid of the music?

Secondly, I played success mode and got fired. I was doing well in the games, but my vitality was mostly gone or close to gone all the time. Anyone have any tips for this mode? Thanks in advance.

Re: Official MLB Power Pros 2008 thread!

You've got to eat to bring your vitality back up. A hot dog is like $4 and brings it back up 50% or so. A chinese meal is much more expensive but brings it up about 70%. The lower your vitality the bigger a chance of injury.

I highly, highly recommend buying as many carryover chocolates as possible because if you eat one per month you basically get an extra turn per month. Over the course of your two years that means the difference between like 65 turns to do something and 80+.

Also, you only want to do training drills as much as you need to for your coaching/scouting points to be high enough to qualify as a starter and move up. The story arcs and activities provide much more development benefit.

For example, if you want a power hitter or high endurance pitcher than you basically MUST take a job at the steak house. Always try a different steak when offered and it's four points straight to your power in the end.

Re: Official MLB Power Pros 2008 thread!

I've read a lot about this game the past couple of years but never played it as I didn't own a PS2.

I had my mind set on getting The Show 09 this year but I think, in addition to The Show, I'm going to give this game a look as well. Sounds like a very sim experience and I'm a sucker for kiddie graphics.

Is there a big difference between Power Pros and Power Pros 2008? The reason I ask is that there's a bunch of used copies of Power Pros at the GS near my house, but no used copies of 2008 (they do have a new copy). Only a difference of $10, I know, but if I can save a little money, that's always a good thing.

                        The more meaningful differences are:

                        - It's more possible to walk but walks are still too far and few between.
                        - Pitch breaks are slightly more exagerated.

                        - A different Success Mode that I happen to prefer but some dislike.
                        - MLB My Life which is basically a 20 year career for your Success Mode player or current MLB player.

I think 2008 is superior because of the career mode but that's a personal preference. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the original and at this point it might be more worth picking up the cheaper one if you're going to hop on the train with 2009 this summer. Seriously, enjoy!

So is there going to be a Power Pros 2009? And will it be on the DS again?

I don't know about the DS but Konami has confirmed a 2009 edition. I'm pretty sure for the consoles it will once again be a Wii/PS2 game only.

They doubled the sales of the original with 2008 so it would have been shocking if Konomi decided not to make a 2009.
