You cant really share any rosters on this game.
It is a real pain to try to update the rosters.
I am of course talking about the Wii version sorry if you have the PS2.

If you have the PS2 version of MLB power pros 2008, go to baseball sim central, there is a 2008 roster/profile file there.

Will they be making a Power Pros 2009 for the DS? And, will it have a Season Mode this year (crosses fingers)?

Thanks. Just downloaded and didn't realize that site was still around either.

Re: Official MLB Power Pros 2008 thread!

If you love this game you have to get the PS2 rosters at www.simcentral.net that are mentioned above.

            Here's the link: http://forums.simcentral.net/local_l...id=4&linkid=13

You have to register there before you can download them.

            Here's what you get.....

*10/31 update - re-uploaded file just to make sure that the most updated version I had actually made it online. updated rosters with a few early offseason roster moves, thru the end of October.

This is a profile and roster save for the PS2 version of MLB Power Pros 2008. Arrange teams have been created for all 30 real life teams. All fake players have been been edited to the real life players they (probably) represent, based on the position and birth year data given in the game. Also, all store items (uniforms, stadiums, pitch/bat styles, and baseball cards) are unlocked.

            Notes:
            - I've edited the team strategy section for all arrange teams. By default, lineup style is set to "hitting" and all sub/bunt/run stuff is set to "rare". When you play out a season with default rosters, most everyday players play 162 games, and the computer hardly ever bunts or pinch hits for pitchers. I set lineups to "condition" and all other settings to "standard", so hopefully backups and pich hitters will get used in simmed season games.
            - I didn't do any player editing, outside of renaming the fake players, and editing their appearance data to somewhat match their real-life counterparts. Edited players have a purple bar at the bottom of their name.
            - Arrange rosters edited thru the end of August. Released players are still listed their last teams. Players do not appear on multiple arrange teams.
            - Players in the free agent pool by default were placed on arrange teams. Unfortunately, this means that about 30 or so end-of-the-roster type players will appear twice in a season if you start a season with arrange teams.
            - When you edit arrange teams, you can't swap hitters for pitchers, and vice versa. That's why some of my arrange teams have too many pitchers on the active roster.
            - Arrange team #31 is a Montreal Expos team I exported from expansion mode, with a roster of fake players. If you want to make a 30 team legue, with one expansion team in place of an existing team you don't want, you could do that with this team. You could also edit this arrange team, putting them in another city.

Just a heads up, the purple bar under the names of edited players can be disabled in season mode through the "name underbar" option in season settings. I know it drove me nuts for a while because it's ugly so this might make someone happy. The option to flip it off isn't obvious.

As I sit trying to get through some MLB 2k9 games this weekend, struggling to get through games.....going about 50 minutes a game,,,I'm thinking to myself I could have had two very fast realistic Power Pro games in that time.....

Makes me think back that Power Pro is definately up thee with High Heat (2004?) as one of my favorite baseball games of all time. I have the wii, don't have a ps2, but makes me start thinkign maybe I should get a ps2 on the cheap just to get power pros going with updated file. I still have my old sharkport and stuff. I just can't keep up with the roster updates for the wii.

I bought a used copy of the '07 version for the Wii and I don't see how people are claiming this would satisfy hardcore fans. Statistically speaking I can see it, but the gameplay is pure arcade. I suppose hardcore means something different to everyone. Am I missing something about the game on the field?

Re: Official MLB Power Pros 2008 thread!

If you're a hardcore fan and want a pure sim experience you should probably be buying SCEA's game. That game has been for a number of years a tremendous pure sim baseball product. I think it's more fair to categorize Power Pros as something of a hybrid simulation slanted arcade game; an indirect decendent of RBI Baseball and All Star Baseball. Everyone's definition of arcade and sim differs but I have a hard time categorizing this is a pure arcade game.

I think you are missing a few things about the game on the field though. The hit variety is SUPERB if you play with the lock-on batting shut off or on the lowest level and the batter vs. pitcher matchups can be very good. If you don't adjust the positioning of your fielders depending on the batter at the plate you're going to pay for it by being blooped and driven to death on balls you should otherwise get to. In a game I played yesterday I forgot to bring my fielders up for Carl Crawford and instead of getting to a looper over the third baseman relatively quickly and keeping him at first I watched as he tore for second and got there before my lumbering left fielder could get the ball to second base. And unlike a lot of baseball games, tendencies like PULL HITTER actually means PULL HITTER.

The way players are rated skill-wise (very close to each other except for stars and scrubs) also helps produce a lot of balance. Basically, once you find settings that work for you the game should produce great results. A lot of tight games and some blowouts to keep it from feeling too tight. That you can also play a game in about 20-30 minutes also boosts the appeal IMO. Once this game has Wi-fi (coming for 2009) I think it's going to pick up an even more loyal following.

Thanks for your reply, CL. My comment of it being pure arcade was a little knee-jerk, I can see some really cool stuff with the pitching/batting. It's moreso when the ball is hit, the fielding, that felt arcadey. If my son was old enough to appreciate the game, I'd probably stick with it, but that's a few years off. Thanks again, though!

I hope so, and I hope it includes at least a season...hopefully all of the modes.

The fielding has issues. I highly, highly recommend practicing fielding on dribblers and balls hit back softly to the left and right of the pitcher. You WILL make a lot of mistakes because of the fielding system and how it chooses which player to control authomatically unless you master the L and R triggers and have a bit in intuition about what will happen. It could be a lot better since a lot of games have done a better job but if you're willing to put in the effort it is workable. The flip is that the bunting game is better than most other baseball games (it also requires practice) and infield hits are very possible. The depth of the game is incredible and it grows on you. Give it a fair shot, maybe it's not for you but it is really most everything it tries to be.

Ahh, this was a great thread.

Picked up a used Power Pros for the ps2 and started playing again, and I forgot how good this game was.

Quick question though, on the Ps2 is their lock on hitting? I know there was for wii in the game settings, but I can't seem to find it on the ps2.

Anyone else been playing this lately?

Yes, the ps2 version has lock on batting. You can go into the options tab(which is right before the game, where you can choose to edit your lineup also). In there you can change the hitting to lock on if you want, you can choose between lock on 1-5, best try and normal.

I've been thinking about playing my "My Life" file again, because I was having fun dominating, it may not have been the most realistic because I absolutely owned but it was very very fun.

I play the game on and off sometimes, it's a love hate relationship between me and this game. The only times that I dislike it is when I take it too serious.

I'm such an idiot I never scrolled down in the menus to see more options...lol.

I never played my life much. I'm going to do some roster edits and maybe start a season. I like how it plays a great game of baseball in under 30 minutes or less.
