milbrewcity: you said that youre not big on xbox live though which explains why you wouldnt want to spend $50 on IP2003, I woudlnt either. I really feel like the game needs to be judged as an online experience and no a single player one because it was obviously made for that. Now people who dont like to play online should be fully aware of this, so a review should state this fact. It almost needs two scores, one for online people and one for offline. I'd give it about a 75 for offline, 92 for online.

Online and offline it lacks boxscores and instant replays. Offline, the computer AI has some glitches, and there is no franchise mode. Now can someone tell me why this game is "so bad" offline in comparison to the other games? All the other games have their glitches (bugs, whatever you want to call it), and there is not one game IMO that has it all. As you guys know, I've wavered significantly on my 1P experience (not having broadband now). So what makes IP not a good 1P game? (I am not interested in franchise play at this time, so please leave that out (like the game did!)). Thanks!Comment

yeah you bet...again i'm not that interested in the online factor. and that would certainly tilt my enjoyment of the title. my main beef is that reviews of other sports games seem to take a hit for not being online. i feel the "boost" for being online is much stronger than the "hit" for not being online. hope that makes sense. and yes, that does sound anal which i realize...it is rather nitpicky.
and to add to something else, i have a feeling some people may have gotten frustrated at ign's review, myself included. that "tilt" is honestly just speculation though. i'm no expert here.
hope that helps out more...Comment

Re: Our Inside Pitch 2003 Review
[/i]**Disclaimer: I want to preface what I'm about to say by stating that I respect each and everyone of your opinions about my review of this game and thank you all for the feedback. Whether or not you like it (my review) or agree with it I have no hard feeling or ill will.[/i]
Several things go into my determination of what score I will give a game, and they are all weighted differently.
1st: How fun is the game? Am I enjoying myself while playing? Do I say to myself "Just one more game"?
To me IP has this over any other game. Online and Offline. I've played every baseball game released on the XBOX this year and I"ve had the most fun with IP.
NOTE: I didn't review ASB. Had I reviewed both games ASB would have received a lower score. It's not that fun to ME.
2nd: Gameplay: Does the game accel at what it's trying to do? Again, I honestly feel that IP does this well. Other games do get it better, but they have lost some of the FUN in the process IMO>
3. Technical Details: Glitches? AI flubups, etc? Does IP have them? Yes, just as every other game on the market.
a) MVP - some serious whack baserunning
b) WSB - stealin 2nd base is guaranteed
c) ASB - while improved from last 2 years, it's still a glitch fest
d) HH - Probably less than any of the other games, but somewhere along the line HH stopped being fun. Maybe it's jsut that I need all the mods that are available for the PC version.
4) Graphics: While IP doesn't look the best of the bunch overall, it has the best looking stadiums and gameplay views IMO. I love the look of WSB, but you just don't get to see enough of the ballparks because the camera is zoomed in too close to the play. Not bad, but dang man, show me some of my beloved Coors Field.
Everygame has it's strengths and weaknesses. I for one feel that ASB is most improved from last year to this year. It's getting much better, but it still has a long way to go. Really looking forward to WSB next year, but I hope they get some better atmosphere...primarily the announcers. They put me to sleep. EA is definitely going in the right direction with MVP, looking forward to that next year too. Not sure what's gonna happen with HH, or if there will even be one. for lthe love of God, let's hope so eh.
The way I look at the big picture is that this year there is a baseball game out there for everyone. No matter what you like, you at leat have enough choices this year to find one that you like and can have fun with.
Sorry to ramble on, and thanks again for all of your feedback/replies.

With all due respect, (I swear and enjoy the site greatly), I hope this wasn't a review that had "let's stick it to ign" in the back of your mind. If I gave a non-gamer the 4 major baseball games it again would be difficult for me to believe that they think IP is on even keel with ASB.
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Sorry, forgot to reply to this statement and I really, REALLY meant to.
Do not fear. You can feel confident in the fact that my reviews are exactly how I feel about a game. If I like it, I'm going to give it a good review, if I don't I'm going to give it a bad one.
I don't get paid for this and this isn't my job. I do this as a hobby and for fun. There is no politics, pressure, incentives or anything else like that.
It's all for the love of the game my friend.

Re: Our Inside Pitch 2003 Review
CS:
thanks for the clarification. Like you said there is a game for everyone which goes to show that a review score might not always reflect the +/- in a game that each person is going to feel are important to them. Rating a game low for no online play doesnt help the offline kinda guy and visa versa. Luckily we have this great forum to delve deeper into each games strengths and weaknesses. If it wasnt for OS I probably would have never picked up IP2003, glad I did.Comment
